| I, personally, am for it because people should be free to marry whomever they want, however some are against it. Where do you stand and why? | |

because it's wrong isn't what I'm looking for; real arguments like WHY it is wrong, stuff like that.

| I personally support gay civil unions, since I believe it's time our society stopped pinpointing at all different kinds of minority and discriminating against them and I think the question of gay rights is just as much about human rights as the question of racism. And although I might find it hard to understand the reasons of why someone is gay, being straight myself, well, I am trying my best. And I believe if we're talking equal rights, this involves at least some sort of civil union to grant gay couples the same judicial rights as straight couples. Civil union sounds fair enough for me, since, at least in the western world, the church and the state are theoretically separated (or at least, they should be, even though there are exceptions) - so the state should, in my opinion, be able to assure gay couples have the same legal status as straight couples without interference from the church - in this case, the question isn't whether homosexuality is "blessed by God" or not, it's much more about taxes etc.
As to the question of church marriage of gay couples ... this is much more problematic. As much as I'd love to say, "Well, just make the priests see that no place in the Bible bans gay couples", this is too much about conviction and traditions. And no, I'm not saying those can't be changed .. it just seems a bit early for it, seen as the church is mostly a conservative body. Plus, it depends exactly *which* religion you're talking about, as I can, for example, much rather imagine the Protestantism accepting it than the Catholicism, not to speak of the Islam. But I won't argue more on the topic. Who knows, maybe in 20 years or so ...

| Please notice that this place is only for posting actually news and not open threads throwing a topic to start a discussion. I am therefore closing this thread now. (on a personal note I'd like very much to see where this discussion would head to but it's not why we are here for. Also the thing is a lot see marriage as a religous things while many gay people would be more than happy to have at least civil unions legalised that's what a lot dont realise, to build a whole life with someone and then have it torn apart when one of the partners die cuz they're relation wasnt recognised by the law. Also I dont believe God condemn gays, religion rules were made by man not God...anyway) | |
