| Mostcommon elves in Middle earth use Sindarin, quenya is mostly for the high elves such as Galadriel and Celeborn. Here are some simple sindarin phrases: Suilad-greetings
Navaer-farewell
Man eneth lin?-what is your name
___I eneth nin- my name is
Mae govannen-well met!

| This if for my Bronze Hand Badge! I'll still try to answer any questions you have to the best of my ability!
Pronounciations
These are some of the most common mistakes made when speaking Sindarin: ch: like German 'ach', NOT the 'tsh' sound such as found in church
c is always pronounced like a k. Therefore, names such as Celeborn would be pronounced as "Keleborn" rather than "Seleborn".
When the letter f is at the end of a word, it is pronounced as a v. So the Sindarin word nef would be pronounced nev.
r should be trilled as in Spanish.
The Article Unlike in English, there is no article (like "a" and "an). Therefore, the Sindarin words can take on the meaning of just the subject, or the article + subject. For example:
Edhel = "Elf " or "an Elf "
The article in Sindarin is "i", and is also used to indicate the plural form of the subject when it's made "in" (something not used in English).
The king --> I aran The kings --> In erain
The articles can also follow directly after prepositions by adding a "n" or "in" to the end of the word. Some examples of prepositions and their conjugations are below to try to make this clearer:
Be (according to): Ben (translates to "according to the / in the") Na (toward, at, to): Nan (translates to "toward the, at the, to the") Or (on): Erin *please note the irregular conjugation* (translates to "on the") Nu/No (under): Nuin (translates to "under the")
Excercises Complete the following with the best article or preposition.
1) According to the annals: _________ ìnias
2) The blood: _______ iâr
3) Look toward the Sun: Tiro _______ Anor
4) On the bed: ________ haust
5) The feast: ________ mereth
I know this is confusing so I hope you semi-understand it so if you complete the excercise I will check your answers and make sure their right and correct anything. Feel free to ask any questions you have!
