Hey everybody. My friend Ray told me my poems were good and said I should set up a topic where we can post poems we've written, both Potter related and non-Potter related. This'll also help us here at Hogwarts to get to know each other better. So, to start us off, here's one of mine I wrote for English last year. Ahem:

Where I’m From

I am from St. Mary’s Hospital,
General Health yearly checkups,
Chicken pox, colds and the flu.

I am from Shabbat candles,
Sunday morning services,
Passover sedars,
From Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Sarah, Rebecca, Leah and Rachel.

I am from books,
Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings,
From Anne who has inspired me, nearly living through Hitler’s reign,
Reading in the sun, the grass warm under my feet.

I am from the lake,
Water-skiing is the sport I love,
Going fast, the water spraying my face.

I am from the dog I loved,
Megan, there my whole childhood,
Graceful in the water,
Her arthritic joints not working so hard,
Her beautiful black coat graying,
Her body thinning,
Gone so suddenly, she left us with sadness and memories.

I am from friendships, new and old,
Cousins, aunts and uncles I see only a few times a year,
Sleepovers and parties, holiday gatherings.

I am from back-to-school shopping,
Grades K-8,
Cold early mornings, the sun barely up or relishing the warmth of the sun on my skin,
Waiting, waiting for the summer days of freedom.

Yeah, not the best, but whatever.

Caw-caw said the crow,
Sitting on the lamp post.
Caw-caw said the crow,
Cocking his head to-and-fro.
Caw-caw said the crow,
Spreading his wings to fly.
Caw-caw said the crow,
Soaring through the sky.

I did that for my gr.6 poetry anthology. It just came to me...stop staring! I know I'm not good, jeez:(

Teary-Eyed Rain

Why is the rain falling as I cry?
the streets flooding as I wish to fly away
I can't sleep, can't close my eyes
Because I keep dreaming of you, how cliche.
The sky is not so bright
Just like my heart and mind
I want you out of my life, I wanna be alright
Everytime I see you, I feel so left behind.
Thunder, lightning, seem to be coursing through my veins
Forcing away the joy I once felt, in seeing your smile
and I just wish everything could once again be the same.
please, just, go away for a while.
it'll hurt, I'll be sad, but anything's better than this
rainy sorrow, haunting bliss.

A Sinner's Fate
Hells’ fires flame,
Moans soon cry,
Never to tame,
Or see sky.
For suns set,
More to join
Sinners may bet
For the coin.
As life moves
Hands bend down
In gentle grooves,
Smiles made frowns.

Sun Lily, Ice Lily

The Lily petals follow the sun
A golden beginning and end
of pink and orange together
it blends
to make the sunset flower
but the water will freeze
and the leaves of the trees will fall
and the bright ice lily remains
twirling round and round
falling and falling
but not ending
until the sun comes
the golden sun
the shining sun
and ice melts back to water
and the lily follows the sun once more
Floating across the sky
till the beginning is end
and the end is beginning
and back to the ice it will go
to start at the middle

That pretty much makes no sense if you know anything about lillies as in the flowers. But as you probably noticed, this is not about a flower it is about me. And rather hard to understand if you don't know me. At the beginning it is summer and I am following the sun pretty much. Then it is winter and the ice comes and I guess I must be stronger than a tree because my leaves certainly don't fall off.The next part is pretty easy, I'm skating and I keep falling but I still keep going.Then it's summer again and I am thinking about gold again.I'm not going to explain the end because its hard to explain and really confusing anyway.Anyway if you think about it enough it might make some sense.But dont because its not important anyway, and that would be a total waste of time. :D

Tortured Soul
“Tortured soul,
So numb and cold,
Broken tears,
And pain untold.”

“Tortured soul,
Forsaken and torn,
Disowned mirth,
Deranged and worn.”

“Tortured soul,
Abandoned and sad,
With crippled feelings,
And bloody hands.”

“Tortured soul,
So miserable and mocked,
Living in sorrow,
Everyone blocked.”

“Tortured soul,
So lost and alone,
Depressing eyes,
A heart of stone.”

“Tortured soul,
How can this be?
Unseen and Withered,
This soul is me.”

I love you guys! These are so great, each and every one of them! I'm so excited to see that so many of us do poems, I thought it'd just be Ray and I. I have a few more I'll put up soon. Keep writing!

FAILURE
Failing, spiraling down
Frustration, hanging around me like a cloud.
One little mistake
And suddenly I feel like being stabbed with a stake.
Wanting to end it
Attain peace for one golden minute.
Perfection, once glinting within grasp
Now is dull, shattered and smashed.
Totally losing all control
Every friendly glance becomes so cold.
Life is out of my hands
Going too fast, can't stop, I don't have a chance.
My fears have somehow come to be
And the damage is destroying me.
The weight of the world , it seems, is on my shoulders
I feel as though I'm walking up a hill, pushing a gigantic boulder.
One slight misstep, one small fall
Everything I've worked for is obliterated, and the disaster commences to snowball.
I've dug myself into a hole, it's impossible to get out
I'm weighted down with unbearable doubt.
If I can do no wrong
Then why is my life full of such depression, I feel as though I don't belong.
Failure at life, stupid, dunce, loser, idiot why
Why does my very being, my soul, just want to curl up and die?
A fire in my chest
Burning up, in a state of unrest.
I make errors, I'm not so great
A life of failure, is that my fate?
But, I care so much about what others think abou tme
I can't give up; I have to make them see me successful and happy.
DISGRACE
Putting on a happy face,
But inside I'm full of disgrace.
Crumbling, and falling apart
I'm the true master at hiding it, it's almost an art.
I laugh, smile, I have fun.
Trying to enjoy even one moment, till the time its done.
I want to stop pretending, stop the façade
But sometimes all joy seems to fade away.
Each time I take one small step
I fall back too, from the success I am forever kept.
I cry on the inside,
Because I can't disturb my mask, so confused, I can't decide.
My luck has just run out.
I'm hoping I can get by.
What to think, what to do.
Do you really get it? Do you? It's very hard to.
I'm scarred over, everything is buried so deep
Full of secrets, lies, deceit, and failure, of course, rules at my castle's keep.
Cracking under everything I have piled on
I appear to do well, but it's just another face I don.
Never staying truly happy for a long time
My emotions swerving on a dime.
I'm so confused, I don't know what to feel.
Everything doesn't seem 100% real.
Pouring over pictures, snapshouts of happy memories.
A faint smile on my lips, wondering how it could be, should be.
Torn up inside, each piece so tiny.
Can I ever put them back together? Why me?
Am I meant to be alone
Forgotten, unwanted, a fat, ugly, stone?
No one knows who I really am, it looks like
I'm held down; not feather light, like a kit.
Spinning too fast, the world needs to cease its turn.
DOOM
In such a state of shock,
Wanting the time to stop, like an annoying alarm clock.
Running away from my problems, to stop myself from doom
Locked up, closed in, in an abysmal room.
I'm drowning, being swallowed, not able to resurface.
Around myself, growing is a prison, a dismal edifice,
Betrayed, by what? Where to place the blame?
A sole fault, and, yet, now my soul doesn't feel the same.
I want to disappear, to never show my ugly face again.
No one can understand me, help me, not even my friends.
I shall go and sulk, until the very end.
I care not to see what lurks around the shadowed bend.
I thought I could take it, I thought it'd be a breeze
But all this pressure is crushing me.
My destiny is disappointment
Feelings of resentment.
My current state of mind is jumbled, dank, dead
Fear of even more failure and let down going through my head.
The days of the past, happy and light
Apparently are over now, for here is that endless, moonless, night.
I just can't take it anymore
I'm going to give up, no more trying, time to close the door.

Memories

Looking back, what do I see?
The memories that make up me
That make me who I am today
Some very near and some far away.

Looking back, what do I see?
The memories that still haunt me
Death, regret, and also fear
For those I hold so dear.

Looking back, what do I see?
Disappointment, anger, jealousy
Hate for all, love for no one
To understand me, am I the only one?

Looking back, what do I see?
Love, trust, being happy
Teasing, laughter, friends and family so dear
These are the memories I want to appear.

Looking ahead, what do I see?
All of the options open for me
Being only a teen, the world is so new
I want to live life as well as many do.

And then, when I’m older and looking back, what will I see?
The memories that make up me
Those that will bring a smile to my face
And those that will make me hang my head in disgrace.

Until then, I will do all I can do
To make all of my dreams come true
And so, maybe, to prevent
Regret
When I look back.

For memories are who we truly are
Memories near, memories far
The choices we make
The promises we break
All return to us in the end
At least that is how I interpret it, my friend.

Death!
Decaying flesh
So torn and creeped,
Trapped in lifes bloody mesh
Over mourning defeat.

Thy Soul
Yearning so much--
Craving, desiring...
Only your voice to quench...
The very thirst that is my soul.

No Justice
No justice is here
No arms tight around me,
No way to stop my fear,
No light I can see,
No desire to be near,
No way to know; how can this be?

Heaven's Angels
Heaven's angels sing
for the almighty ring
on the finger of the king,
who will forever swing
and show off his bling
only to get a big ding,
for Heaven's angels sing.

Refold
Mourning error, how cold
so soft you seemed, of heart
how dear to me; now it smarts.
For now it begins to refold.

Fear Itself
For once I was here,
now I am not.
For glory days gone,
embedded in fear.

Sad Days
Rainy day that holds me tight;
Silver teardrops that bleed into night.
Stifling silence that seems to quake
Now the Lord gives an awsome shake.
For the bird so swiftly sings
Only for though mother and her sons-to-be-kings!
How angst filled thee seem to be
Rid of this silence and just to still me!
Fountains of evil on nastness crawls
The prince's arrogance as he drawls.

Church
"Church of the Lord, Oh how I feel bored!
Prayers and rosaries, I have to sit on my knees!
How trapped I feel, Pressure merely resting at my heel!
The Bible so holy, God's given trophy!
Dear me so sinned, Hallelujah I hymned!
Hands so tightly clasped, Now I feel slightly harassed!
When can i go, I'd rather be out in the snow!
Already life is so near, What is there to fear!
Church is now over, Mom can I invite my friends over?"


That's all I got at the moment but now I'm in a major angst poetry writing mood:)

Black Clouds
Sometimes things don't go on planned
and feelings may hang from such a thin strand.
Actions and words, left undone and unsaid
a dark dreary cloud settles inside your head.
The sunshine is gone, and won't come back.
Your mind begins to float away on a cloud, midnight black.
Will you return or stay and wallow?
Sometimes it's impossible to tell, words become so bittersweet to swallow
Rain stays forevermore
For the black poison has somehow reached your core
Resurfacing among the living, your friends
No it doesn't seem likely to ever happen again.
The sky is dark as charcoal
and you remain in falling into the abyss, the inky hole.
No ladder is long enough to reach you.
Is there anything left for anyone to do?
You've landed into the thick opal sludge
and being sucked down into darkness.
The point of no return has arrived;
it's up to you, will you survive?

I don't know if this is a poem or not but I'm putting it here anyway. I just got to thinking and this popped out. I love your poems so much guys!

Death

When Death comes to claim us, robed all in black velvet, Her icy breath chilling us to our very bones, Her pale white hand outstretched, we take it.

Why, when we have been taught all of our lives to be careful, to avoid meeting Her at all costs?

Why, when we know nothing of where She is taking us?

Why, when in our hearts we hate Her, fear Her, above all else?

And yet, when She takes us by the hand, we are unafraid.

Perhaps we do not struggle because we know that nothing stops Her.

We hope.

Hope. Hope that when our souls leave our bodies that She will care for them.

Her smile, pearly white teeth glinting as she leads us to Her domain cheers us.

Perhaps it won't be so bad, being dead, we think.

Ever smiling, She turns to face us and we see Her for the very first time. A beautiful young woman, figure slim. Her face, perfect as a porcelain doll's. Her long hair, black as midnight, smooth as silk.

But her eyes.

Dark as the moon is bright, they are bottomless, filled with the sorrows of the ages.

It is Her eyes that captivate us, until, with a silvery laugh, She disappears, melting into the darkness, leaving us alone in the dark of the night.

But then, suddenly, we are not alone.

Those who we have missed for so long have been returned to us. Their smiling faces light up the Land of the Dead.

Death watches over all, standing on a high balcony in the palace built only for Her. Alone these many years, silently She weeps, as always. To be hated and feared, when Her Sister, Life, is so loved and celebrated, and to see us happily rejoin our lost loved ones wounds her more deeply then any twist of a blade could.

And yet, She comes, as She always has, to take us.

She turns from the balcony, wiping the tears streaming down her flawless face. Another thread in Her Tapestry of Life has been stretched as tightly as it can be. It is time for her, once again, to fulfil Her duty. Sighing, She departs for another journey.

I hope you feel sorry for Death. I wanted to put my own twist on the image of Death, feeling it unfair to Her. We all have to die sometime, no one can stop it. It's not Her fault. (I just felt this would be easier to write if I attatched a gender to Death.) Kinda odd for me to write something like this, usually I'm much happier XD

Whoa, very touching Ginny, really I can understand how when you feel emotional poetry just comes out. Sometimes dark, like a lot of mine are but I will post them later cuz right now I'm in a happy go lucky mood and I may start writing about flowers and butterflies and stuff...soooooooooo anyway, good job to all of you on your creative poems.

Here I lie on this cursed island of lonelieness;

Darkness and Night
Darkness and night,
Day and light.
You want the second one,
When you are scared in the first it is no fun.
You recall dreams and nightmares now long past,
But suddenly your heart beat gets very fast.
You remember the pain and the monsters you saw,
Then comes the crow's evil caw.
Darkness and night...
Don't leave anywhere with out your flashlight.

Friends Forever?
Friends are said to be by your side forever,
Then why didn't mine stay together?
It started out fine with lots of fun,
But now how come I'm the only one,
Left standing alone when the fight was done?
When I call they never answer the phone.
What have I done to deserve this?
To be abandoned in an infinite abyss.
So cherish friendships for one day,
They may go away.

The Meaning?

As I sit her, I ponder the meaning,
the true meaning,
of love and hate
of grief and of anger,
I ponder the meaning,
the one and only,
I ponder life.

Sure I am happy,
who whouldn't be?
I have all of my needs covered,
I have it all,
I have a family,
the love me,
My mother, Father, Dog and Bird,
My brother even.

I have a house, warm bed,
and am fed and watered
But still as i sit here:

I ponder the meaning
the true meaning
of love and hate,
of grief and of anger
I ponder the meaning
the one and only,
I ponder life

I have my moment i'll admit
at home
at school
in private and out
Some moments of utter briliance
some moments of anger or disgust

but through all i end happy, content, like a lark

I'm not the best in everyting
far from it sometimes
but still I am content,
with my talents, my hardships, my challanges.
In school i hold my own,
not in all classes, but most,

I am certainly not perfect
the mere thought is laughable
but i try to be good and kind
generous, graciouse and loving
I could use work,
but at least i try,
and by trying, trying to think of others

to be patient and to listen
I learn the most important lesson.

I learn to love and accept,
to live and let live
but how is this so?
wouldn't trials make me bitter?
sour, annoyed?

This makes me think;

I ponder life.

By looking back I see,
that life is what you make of it
It's good and bad,
happy and sad
But iff you can take what is sent and still love and accept

i know this doesn't really make a lot of sense, but i wrote it when i was really annoyed/confused on day after an utterly HORRID day at school that left me wondering
'myGOD! what IS the point?'

so...i hope it's not horrable....hehe

Watching a sunrise,
Waiting for a new surprise.
Making burnt chocolate chip cookies,
They probably turned out that way because we were only rookies!
Getting a hug when you were down,
This is what friendship is all about.

Well, mother's day is comming up so......

To My Mother

Roses are Red,
Violet's are Blue, somehow sounds lacking
when you took the time for me
to helped me to grow

You set aside your life
so I could start mine
you guieded me to the 'right road'
and never let me stray

even though i'm you're 'baby'
you never crossed the line
between loving and spoiling
but always loved me dear

you could have gone to work
with a sky hi career,
but no, you stayed with me
and taught me of life

good values and morals
you instilled in me
to take with me always
on the road towards my future

I hope when i'm older
and have kids of my own
that i'll be half the mother
that you are to me

i admire and respect you
adore and love you
you'll always have a spot
deep in my heart
where you'll stay forever
and forever more

my mom's like, my best friend ever and i love her sooo much, so i dedicate this to her...

Well told you I'd post some of my poetry so here they are.Yeah I'm still not in the mood to post the really dark ones(Also I make most of my poetry into songs)

This first one is kind of a dark/romantic type I made up a while back. I found it and decided to use the first part on my siggy :D Hope you guys like it.

Once you kiss a snake...

Once he kisses you, there's no turning back.

His lips attack yours, and you are the prey.

Once she touches her lips to yours, you are paralyzed.
Her essence is poison, a sweet venom that you can not live without.
Inhaling her intoxicating fragrance, sends a tingling through your body.

You can not escape his spell so dark and enchanting
The serpent's blood now boils, you have awakened his senses.
He has tasted your lips, and you have given him your heart.
You are now foever his.

You are now forever hers.

This one I wrote a while back-when I was working on one of my stories. It came to me
and so I wrote it and really was just one of those moments where I was feeling poetic and emotional. So, hope you guys like it.

Fated for Love

By the time the sun sets, I will be gone.
Do not weep for you won't be alone.
Tears you shed, don't let them hit the ground.
Weep only lightly, but without a sound.

Stand on your balcony, hands folded with grace,
As you gaze up at the moon, please don't forget my face.
Stars that twinkle so far away, let them help you smile.
And the shimmering moon, pretend it's only a mile.

Let the witching hour pass without fear,
And close your eyes and pretend I am near.
Remember when we met, remember my gaze
Yours certainly put me in a hypnotic daze.

As you dry from the shower, recall my embrace,
and how it created that blush on your face.
And oh how you shivered, from my every touch,
I'm sure that's one thing that you miss so much.

The time passes quickly, it's a quarter till three
Yet you lie there awake, still thinking of me.
And your hands again folded, and rest on your chest,
By now I'd be tickling you,you'd say I'm such a pest.

It's been 3:10,3:15, now 3:25, you're wondering if I am still alive.
The nights here are bitter, and I really must strive.
The storm clouds are approaching, I think from the south.
I barely have time to put food in my mouth.

That sounded like thunder, just over the hill.
Oh wait, no it's war! And my friends took a spill.
Now there's bloodshed all over, another guy falls.
And two or three others got trapped beneath the walls.

Oh that blast just hit me, and now I'm on the run.
The explosion of spells sounds like the blast from a gun.
I just hit the ground and rolled away from a curse,
The battle's more intense, and things are getting worse.

But I'm here to fight, to protect what we've made.
And if I die, promise my memory won't fade.
I swore I'd protect you, my sweet loving wife.
And here I am fighting to protect your life.

My body now tingles, and I'm falling to the ground,
Seems like slow motion, I can't hear a sound.
All I know is I'm lying, in this grassy bed
in a puddle of blood that's formed round my head.

My world's going fuzzy, my eyes are losing sight.
My body's so numb and I'm so filled with fright.
To leave this world without you, will tear me apart
But now, I no longer feel the beat of my heart.

I can feel my life, slowly slipping away,
And I can't even tell you what I want to say!
The next time you see me, I'll be limp and blue
I never wanted to do this to you.

My breathing is stopping, this price I have paid,
To keep you safe and protect what we've made.
So much longer, I wish I could have stayed,
Don't let our love and our memories fade.

I wasn't trying to be cocky, or crazy or brave
I was keeping you from being turned into a slave.
And it was your life that I was determined to save
So, know that I love you as I'm placed in my grave.

Black Clouds
Sometimes things don't go as planned
and feelings may hang from such a thin strand.
Actions, words, left undone and unsaid,
a dark dreary cloud settles inside your head.
The sunshine is gone, and won't come back.
Your mind begins to float away on a cloud, midnight black.
Will you return or stay and wallow?
Sometimes it's impossible to tell, words become so bittersweet to swallow.
Rain stays forevermore
for the black poison has somehow reached your core.
Resurfacing among the living, your friends...
No, it doesn't seem likely to ever happen again.
The sky is dark as charcoal
and you remain falling into the abyss, the inky hole.
No ladder is long enough to reach you
Is there anything left for anyone to do?
You've landed into the thick opal sludge
and being sucked down into darkness.
The point of no return has arrived;
It's up to you, will you survive?

Nightmares,
They ride through your dreams and when they give you a scare,
They don't care.
They cause you to awake with a start,
You listen to the pounding of your beating heart,
In the desolate blackness of the dark.
You want to get over them but as much as you try,
You never reach success and you ponder as you lie,
In you bed strangled in your twisted fears,
The nightmares get on their hind legs as they rear.
Their pounding feet echo in your head,
You look upon the lost faces of the dead.
You awaken and you stare,
At the haunting darkenss in despair.

Nightmare

Asleep, dreaming, peaceful

But no one can stop it from happening

The falling, falling into a black abyss

But no one sees

Your terrified silent scream penetrates the night

But no one hears

Reaching out, trying to grab on to something

But no one is there

Awake, your sheets wrapped around you as you struggle against them

But no one is coming

Afraid, crying, breath coming in gasps

But no one is there to comfort you

You wait alone, your breathing coming more easily as eventually, you drift, drift back

But what then?

The Shadows
The shadows seem to move around,
You panic as not a single source of light can be found.
A loud noise echoes in the night,
You scream out of your overwhelming fright.
The darkness gets closer and closer,
A smell comes to your nostrils and it gets grosser and grosser.
You are locked into a corner and become trapped,
The evil beings laugh as you are clawed and scratched.
Silence...
You keep breathing deeply after the abruptly halted violence.
Will you ever walk in the darkness again.
Or will you always be filled with fear till the end?

Don't worry Ginny, we all (I think) have had nights like that. I agree with Ginny on being too lazy to write out all of your names, but all of the poems are so good! I'm jealous. And to think, people at home thought my poems were good. But I'm learning because of you guys, thanks. :D
