Rune meanings in divination and fortune telling – part 1

(based on ancient runes class, rune meanings)

There are many runes which are commonly used in the art of divination and fortune telling, and I will be covering only three of the ones I think are most significant.



Fehu

This rune, which is pronounced ‘Fay-hoo’ is commonly known as the rune of realisation. It shows indications of the presence of copious nourishments of all kind, including both spiritual and physical. Is focus is upon the memories of good fortune and wealth and reminds us that we all run the risk of getting carried away by success and forgetting about the more important things in life. This rune warns a person to be aware of this and not let it happen to them.



Gebo

Pronounced ‘Gay-boe’, this rune symbolises partnership and gifts. It shows fortune arriving unexpectedly, a positive form of fortune that is considered to be well deserved. It may cover such aspects like rewards, promotions, acknowledgements or even gifts. This rune is a completely joyous rune and it is said that it shows fulfilled promises and dreams coming true. It also symbolises forgiveness. On the partnership side, it symbolises a new partnership that is about to be born, and reminds the person to remember their own self, and that true partnership occurs when there are two people in a team, yet each continuing with their own individuality.



Hagalaz

Hagalaz, pronounced ‘Hah-gall-ahz’, is the complete opposite of Gebo. It shows negativity and destruction with the elemental powers. You may find yourself surrounded by negative feelings and events that will be out of your control, and drawing this rune indicates the possibility of havoc within your every day life, through work, relationships and even security.
Although the rune is negative, it does show you that you control your own reality, and your own nature creates how you deal with what is happening to you, symbolising that this rune is perhaps not as negative as originally thought.
