Shadow Granger

Shadow took a deep breath, her violet eyes slightly narrowed against the sunlight. She adjusted her cloak on her shoulders, trying to think why she had signed up for this again. Then she remembered.
I'm doing it for my house, She told herself firmly. I will see this through to the end. She stepped forwards, her black ankle boots making almost no noise on the grass. She swept a lock of hair that had come loose from her plait off her face, concentrating herself as she pulled out her wand. The silver brooch that held up her cloak glinted in the last rays of sun before the girl was engulfed by the shadows of the maze.

Shadow whipped round, trying to take in the whole sight. Her mind was reallying as her grip on her wand tightened. As a rule, she wasn't afraid of fire, quite the opposite actually, but what would happen if she didn't manage to stop it and it burnt down the maze? Would the challenge be void?
Thinking fast, Shadow tried to remember the spell to cast water on fire, but none seemed to come to mind. She stood side on, pointing her wand towards the sky.
"FEARTHAINN!" She yelled out, a stream of dark blue magic heading into the clouds above. Soon after, torrents of rain began to fall, extinguishing the flames and soaking the girl.
"Deireadh," She muttered, sighing. The rain stopped, leaving Shadow dripping wet to continue the maze through the smell of burnt leaf.
"Good going Shadow," She muttered to herself, wrigning her hair out as she moved forwards.

Fearthainn: Rain (Gaelic)

Shadow started to panic as she realised what the bird was. Desperately wracking her brains, she tried to remember that charm that she had learnt in Charms class, the one that was supposed to silence things.
Why did I wait until now to realise that not listening in class was not an option?! She screamed at herself in her mind. Then she remembered, and felt like whacking her head off the next solid object she came across.
They're supposed to drive you mad! You're falling into its trap! Not that it was much of a consolidation.
"Come on, come on, come on!" She muttered to herself, her wand emitting angry red sparks as she gripped it too tightly. "AHA!" She pointed the wand at the bird. "SILENCIO!"

Shadow breathed a deep sigh of relief as her spell hit its target and song ended. She couldn't help but give a small smile of triumph at the exceedingly angry and reproachful looks she was getting from the Fwooper.
