Time for a new Daily Prophet?

Many witches and wizards know how the Daily Prophet can be bias at times. The editor Barnabas Cuffe has strong ties with the Ministry of Magic. Because of this, the newspaper seems to be more on the side of the Ministry’s view of the news. In past editions it is seen how bias the newspaper can be. For instance when the Dark Lord made his return the Ministry refused to acknowledge this fact and kept its readers believing that Albus Dumbledore and Harry Potter were merely making this up. Once the Dark Lord made his presence known, then the Ministry had no choice but to admit that they were wrong. During this time Harry Potter wanted to do an interview to get his story out to the public but there was no way Barnabas Cuffe would let an article like that be written in the newspaper, instead Harry had to get his side of the story out in The Quibbler. The Quibbler was able to make many readers change their opinions that were formed when reading the Daily Prophet. This is not the only time that the Ministry has been bias. One other instance was when the former Death Eaters were escaping Azkaban they blamed it on Siruis Black when in was in fact the Dark Lord’s biding and the Dementors stopped working for the Ministry. With all this bias news should the Daily Prophet continue to be published or should there be another newspaper as popular as the Daily Prophet around?

It is true that the Daily Prophet is not the only newspaper that the wizarding community can read however it is the most widely read. Since the Daily Prophet is so bias they tend to make the wizarding community think the way they want them to. It is not the wizarding community’s fault for they are fed false stories or only given the part of the story that the Ministry wants them to know. Reading the Daily Prophet it is easy to spot that the Ministry has a huge influence on what is published. If the Ministry doesn’t like a story than the article would probably get pulled.

One journalist is Rita Skeeter, a well-known writer for the newspaper who almost seems to make up her own story of what happened. She uses a Quick Quotes Quill which does all her writing of what the interviewee is saying however it seems to add more than what is actually taking place. The Quill likes to make the story seem juicier and adds little notes and lies that has little to do with what actually happened. This is what helped make Rita a popular writer for the Daily Prophet though most of her articles can be regarded as garbage and nonsense.

Newspaper is one of the main ways of spreading news around. When the news is bias than the readers will form ideas and opinions on what they read mostly agreeing with the stories since they have no other view point to go by. The Daily Prophet needs to become less bias with their reporting of the news or another newspaper needs to step up and report the part of the news that the Daily Prophet overlooks.

Really good, you drew in lots of different examples which was good! Maybe a little more information on the history of the Daily Prophet or times when it was less biased which helped the society as a whole would have helped, too! Really good overall though!
