Following up with the discussion class theme I want you now to write and Essay about Voldemort.

We all now that Voldemort has been evil since forever but I want you to describe the fulcral moment where he had really decided to embrace the Dark Arts deeply, that moment of personal enlightment where you now you have to chose and there's no turning back.

Why did he choose that side? Was it in the heat of a dangerous moment or was it a well thought decision?

We know Tom riddle disappeared a time when he left hogwarts to then return as Voldemort, you can write about that period of time where he have no information.

Have fun and be creative. I want a minimum of 300 words not a word less.

This class is worth 100 points.

The best student
will get an award point plus their name in the Hall of Fame and the
house with most students taking part will get 100 points at the end of
every term.

Good Work everyone.

PostSubject: Re: Voldemort Gone Bad   Voldemort Gone Bad EmptyFri Jul 27 2007, 22:58

Riddle sat down on his thin bed, staring at his Hogwarts letter and memorizing the details. In the hallway he could hear the other orphans talking, their voices falling to whispers whenever they passed his door. He enjoyed their fear, but he frowned remembering his reaction to Albus Dumbledore's magic and his abilty to read Tom's mind. He didn't like that, he wanted to be the one in charge, not some funny man in a silly suit. But Tom knew that he had managed to surprise the teacher as well, with his own powers. Just think of the powers he could have once he yielded a wand!

Setting aside the letter, Riddle closed his eyes and took several minutes to think out his plans. He would return the items that he had taken as Dumbledore had instructed, but only because he knew that if he didn't the older wizard would somehow know. Then he would visit this Diagon Alley, surely there were books other than the ones on his curriculam list that could be bought. He had a little money, and first he would invest in a book on how to block others from reading his mind. He would then read all his school books beforehand and get a thorough knowledge of the wizarding world. Riddle refused to start school as an ignorant outsider.

More plans and ideas came to him. Dumbledore's magical talents had impressed him and he sensed that Dumbledore was a powerful wizard. What a waste, to teach at a school, when one could do such wonderous magic! Why was the wizarding world so secretive, they should be the ones in charge. Look at what he had been able to accomplish here at the orphanage, every child quaked at his approach, they trembled when he spoke. He liked the idea of a world goverened only by the strong, because was he, Tom Riddle not the strongest? Why should he hide his magical abilities, did they not signal him out as special?

Riddle stood up, smoothing down his rumpled uniform and patting his dark locks in to place. He had many errands to run and much study ahead of him. He would absorb all the knowledge this wizarding school had to offer and then some. One day people would see him as the great power he was, and they would hold him in fear and awe. He would not hide his strength, instead he would force every knee to bend, every head to bow as he walked by. And just like the children at the orphanage everybody would be afraid to even whisper his name.

I thought about just writing: Tom Marvola Riddle was born. :as my story for Voldemorts turning point, but realized that fell far short of the 300 word count. *g*

Voldemort Gone Bad Empty
PostSubject: Re: Voldemort Gone Bad   Voldemort Gone Bad EmptyFri Aug 10 2007, 19:30

After six years of Hogwarts, Tom had found how to use the most darkest of spells and he had also came up with a name for himself along with a group of so called “friends” to follow him in his plan to get rid of Muggles and Muggle lovers. Only six years had gone by and he had already gain enough knowledge about Hogwarts that the Headmaster or even the caretaker didn’t even know like for instance the Chamber of Secretes. How he got a laugh about how that poor witch died and that stupid Hagrid got blamed for it. Dumb fool, he couldn’t even open a door let alone the Chamber of Secretes created by my own flesh and blood, Salazar Slytherin. Oh well that does not matter Voldemort thought to himself as he continued down the corridor.

He was now going into his seventh year at Hogwarts and had already chosen to embrace the Dark Arts. This would be the one thing that would help him to succeed in the future. He loved the thought of others in pain and doing his dirty work. He knew so much about magic and how to charm others to get what he wanted. As soon as I leave Hogwarts I am going to set out on my task of making a Horcrux. Oh how he hated the idea of being mortal. With the Horcrux he would no longer have to fear death but instead laugh at the face of it. Why should I only make one? Can I make more than one? I am a great wizard I surely should be able to accomplish such a feat, he thought to himself as he entered the library. Here he would read more about the Dark Arts and his lovely Horcrux.

At first he thought that creating a Horcrux would be hard but after reading this book it seamed fairly easy. Putting the book back, Voldemort rummaged the shelves for more Dark Arts books. After a few minutes of searching he found some of the few books that he had not yet read. After reading these Voldemort knew for sure that after a few years out of Hogwarts he would be able to use the information he gained from these books to kill all Muggles, Muggle borns and blood traitors, leaving the world filled with purebloods.

Voldemort Gone Bad Empty
PostSubject: Voldemort turning evil   Voldemort Gone Bad EmptyTue Aug 14 2007, 17:22

Voldemort was always kind of...mean, all throughout his childhood, but I think that the first sign of Voldemort becoming really evil would be when he asked Professor Slughorn about horcruxes. That is when he really showed his true colors for the Dark Arts. Before that I don’t think he was truly evil. It might have actually been a little bit before his discussion with Professor Slughorn, because he obviously knew about horcruxes already. So...I am going to say that it probably would have been when he decided to create horcruxes, because with that decision came the decision to kill innocent people just for his benefit and pleasure. Before that he was just like some other Slytherin: cruel at times, maybe mean, maybe even evil, but not so evil that he would just kill someone because it benefited him to do it. That is when Voldemort decided to pursue the Dark Arts fully, leaving behind all but the slimmest of chances that he would be good. For the only way to “release” horcruxes is to feel remorse, and be totally sorry for what you did. After Voldemort made his first horcrux, he went totally and completely evil.

Some other turning points in Voldemort’s life would be when he killed his parent and his grandparents, they were innocents, and this portrays his ruthless killing somewhat more than killing strangers, it is harder for most to kill relatives. Another important part of his life is when Voldemort dropped his father’s name for I Am Lord Voldemort. This shows his enormous independency and hatred for muggles.

There are many points in Voldemort’s childhood that are very significant, but I still think that the most significant point is his decision to create a horcrux. They are one of the most evil things in the wizarding world.

Voldemort Gone Bad Empty
PostSubject: Re: Voldemort Gone Bad   Voldemort Gone Bad EmptySun Jul 19 2009, 17:52

I feel that the moment Tom Riddle became truly evil was the point when he decided to make Horcruxes. To willingly sacrifice other people’s lives for his own personal gain and feel no remorse is the ultimate evil, I think, and so at the tender age of sixteen Tom Riddle split his soul for the first time and was well on his way to becoming the most evil wizard the world has ever known. He had read up on the subject, and so I believe this was a very conscious decision. He wouldn’t go gallivanting off to Big Hangleton to see his folks and wind up killing them for no reason. As we know, he murdered his father and grandparents – all of his Muggle family – immediately after discovering his uncle Morfin and Peverell’s ring. Whether these three killings were the first or not isn’t known but Riddle was a murderer before he even completed school. He returned to Hogwarts with the Horcrux of a ring on his finger and three deaths under his belt, right on his way to becoming immortal.

We know from the memory Harry extracts from Professor Slughorn that when Riddle asks the professor about Horcruxes what he is really interested about is the possibility of multiple Horcruxes; he already has one and wants more, wants to even more fully protect himself from death. From this brief conversation we learn that Riddle has no qualms about killing others to make himself vastly more immortal than any other wizard has. He shows no disgust at the thought of others meeting the very end he fears. From this point on he shoots to kill.

But questions still remain –Where did this extreme fear of death come from? Why would he make Horcruxes? How could a boy be so deeply troubled, so profoundly consumed by the Dark Arts, to even consider performing these ultimate acts of evil?

I feel that the death of his mother had an extremely profound affect on Riddle’s mindset about death. Until he learned she was a witch he thought that she was a Muggle, for how could a witch, someone magical, let herself succumb to death? But finding out that he got his magical blood from her, someone feeble enough to die, must have shocked – and scared – Riddle into digging up information on wizarding immortality. What if he was to die like his mother, too weak to use what he had been born with to save himself?

The idea of the Horcruxes would appeal to Riddle in multiple ways: He was solitary, always a loner, and something to be kept secret and private like a Horcrux would seem easy enough to him. Also, he prized his Slytherin bloodline and connection to Hogwarts enough to feel that using artifacts of the four Founders to store pieces of his soul in would bind him even more tightly to the school, the only place he felt remotely like home inside. Riddle was also an extraordinarily intelligent boy; he was surely the only person to read up on the subject, not to mention consider it, in many a millennia, and would know that. Knowing that few people were even aware of the possibility of Horcruxes would give him a feeling of security.

And as for the last question phrased above, I have no answer, for in my mind it only sparks more questions. If Riddle had been raised by his mother and father, would he have turned out the way he did? If he had lived in a caring home would he have been so willing to tear others from theirs? If he had never learned of his connection to Slytherin would he have been so eager to follow in his footsteps? But whatever the reasons behind Riddle’s actions, the pure evil began at the moment he decided to put his own life leagues before others.

PostSubject: Re: Voldemort Gone Bad   Voldemort Gone Bad EmptySun Jul 19 2009, 23:24

Tom riddle is a hard mind to understand he was a young child with a messed up beginning from being completely hated in the Orphanage he was born in, to feeling like an outcast because of his ability to speak with snakes. the one thing that got his mind off all this hatred was magic. he was always sneaking into the restricted section of the library so he could learn more magic then the other young wizards, the dark magic written in these books? the greatest sounding magic none to wizarding kind the only problem was that it was all dark magic. the one thing he wanted most to learn was an interesting magical Object that could preserve life, it was the ultimate dark magic and he wanted it. he even coned a high ranking teacher into teaching him more about this spell sense the book he read only stated the name as a reference. with the information on the Object in his mind he made the Ultimate decision. he killed a little girl named myrtle (nickname moaning myrtle) using the creature in the chamber of secrets (a basilisk) and framed a young half giant named hagrid who lost his wand for it. the reason he killed the girl was to split his soul and place it in his own diary to keep it safe until next he needed it. this was his first step into the dark arts, soon after he formed a group known only as the death eaters. his plan was to create 7 horcrux but he acidently created another inside a living child, the only person known to servive the killing curse (avadakadavra), the chosen one, harry potter. the only problem with having a living horcrux is that, instead of coming back to life through it only his powers where transferred, creating a connection between harry and tom (now known as voldamort). so in conclusion the one thing that pushed him over the edge into the dark arts was the day he decided to split his soul and create a hurcrox.

Voldemort Gone Bad Empty
PostSubject: Re: Voldemort Gone Bad   Voldemort Gone Bad EmptyMon Jul 20 2009, 13:38

I think Tom Riddle went bad when he was in his sixth year of Hogwarts. As we know, he tried and tried many times to find his father there, only to find out he was a muggle. Knowing nothing of his mother, he had to find a reason for why he could talk to snakes. When he realized that Salazar Slytherin could talk to snakes, that started a long search for the Chamber of Secrets and his birth mother. I think he realized he was truelly evil when he killed the girl in the bathroom. He also dug deeper into the dark arts, learning things most shouldn’t know. He was very manipulative and could get people to do his work for him. He also learned the magic of Occlumency and Legilimency.

With being able to do this, he was able to read others minds and learned their weakness. He was also able to find out things others didn’t want him to know. As he grew older, he started finding out more about his father and how he left his mother while she was with child. During the summer of his sixth year, he killed his father, hence, making his first horcrux. But with doing so, he found out his fear. Dying. He wanted to be immortal. But he kept himself on the down low, to keep people from wondering. He was really good at charming people and was able to get what he wanted.

When he finished Hogwarts, he stayed out of the world for sometime, learning more about his family roots and the Hogwart’s founders. He learned more about their families and was able to kill the family member of Helga Hufflepuff and get the house elf blamed for what he done. He stole the cup and made another horcrux with it. He had already made a horcrux with something that belonged to Ravenclaw and left it in Hogwarts where no one could find it. But he soon realized that he couldn’t find one. Godric’s sword. He knew it was at Hogwarts and he tried to get a job as the DADA teacher, but was rejected.

Many wonder when he really went bad, but evil isn’t born, it’s created. Tom Riddle grew up very badly and that could be a reason for why he turned out the way he did. He blamed his hate for muggles on his father, for leaving his mother when she was pregnant. He grew up out of place with others and kept to himself. He learned to never trust others, which he done. To anyone, he was just plain evil, but I think, deep down, he was just very confused and misunderstood.
