HE WhatPulse Team

Howdy all.

I've got an idea for HE to have a team on what is called WhatPulse. (http://www.whatpulse.org is the address.)

Basically, with WhatPulse installed on your computer, it tracks (a) the number of keystrokes you make, (b) the number of clicks you click, and (c) the distance you move your mouse.

With so many folks here being Internet junkies, I think we'll make a good team. This will also give the board a bit of publicity, as there is a list of top teams, based on those three things up there.

It's also really interesting for the stats geeks, such as myself, around here. I've been "pulsing" for a while now and these are my stats...

There's also a preference you can check to see which keys you more frequently hit, and a "Pulser" has actually created a program that dispenses an image based off of that. Following is my frequency keyboard, with pink being highest and blue lowest. This is based off my last 4 million keystrokes.

I was also thinking if you guys wanted to bring house points into it, we could somehow do it on total clicks + keystrokes + miles... dunno. Maybe just points for joining.

As I mentioned previously, I'm currently on a team, but if a HE team were to be started up, I'd have my counts cleared and start with HE.

For those wondering, I've had no case of the program "tracking' what I type other than the amount. And I've been on the site a while. Also, with the download comes no spyware, pr0n, or other stuff. It's just a stats program.

The .exe file to download the program weighs in at 653kB, which isn't much at all. The WhatPulse folder in my computer weights in at 1.55 MB which, again, isn't much.

The program is automatically set to display itself in your desktop toolbar down there. It's a little W. You can make it black, blue, or green. When you are typing/clicking/moving, a little red dot appears at the W. To pulse, or send the information to the server, just double click on the W.

Anywho... what d'you guys think?

I think it sounds like a fun idea, defintely run it by Elfie and Amy and see what they say! Maybe it could even be our new house challenge...
