We can talk about all our favourite books (that aren't Harry Potter related Reading Group Devil )

I'll start by talking about a series of books that are very groovy and marvy.

Has anyone else read the Georgia Nicolson series by Louise Rennison?

They are fabbity fab fab, so very very funny, and the main character, Georgia practically has her own language (which I like to steal from occasionally, so if you see me using words like 'marvy' or 'nippy noodles' you'll know why Reading Group 436937

So what are everyone's favourite books?

Me like the Narnia books too... read all of them before I was 11 Reading Group 410894

I don't think I ever managed to finish LOTR... but still.

I just read a new release called 'The Undomestic Goddess', but it's got swearing in it, so I shan't say anything more. Lol.

I'm on 'The Shadow of the Wind' at the moment. I read so much.... Reading Group 436937

I'll try to keep it short but I read a lot. Besides HP, alright.

Any Dan Brown
The Time Travellers Wife - Audrey Niffenegger
Kate Remembered - A. Scott Berg
My Life Among The Serial Killers - Helen Morrison
Moby Dick - Herman Melville
Anything by Mark Twain (conneticut yankee especially)

And at the moment I'm reading Desperate Husbands by Richard Glover. I love it because I can totally relate to the guy and every page has me laughing. There are heaps more but I promised to keep it short.

Speak by Laurie halse anderson. It's an all time favorite, I cry and laugh when I read it. The emotions in that book is amazing, the author gets you exactly where she wants you, and..It's just amazing. It makes you feel so much. One second you're laughing your butt of at something Melinda though of someone, and the next you're crying your eyes out because her situation is just so sad.

Another favorite author is Minette walters. Oh god, I think i've read all of her books, they're just so brilliant. She's sharp, and you read until your eyelids weigh a kilo, and you can't keep them open. I especially like 'The sculptress', which is one of her earlier books, but I'd recommend all of them, really. :study:

'A likeness in stone' by Julia wallis martin is also a good book. Um... Oh, I can't think of anything that is available in english right now, but among swedish writers, I like Linda skugge, Jonas Gardell and Ã…sa grennvall.

I love the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman, I think they're fantastic books.

There's so much depth to the characters, so much thought behind the plot, and I love all the ideas in the books, especially The Amber Spyglass.

There are so many great characters in these novels (my favourite being Will), and the idea that there are other worlds all running simultaneously is great.

A couple of years ago, my family and I went to Oxford for a shopping trip, but it ended up being a sort of HDM sight-seeing thing, we went to the museum Lyra goes to (incidentally, where the shrunken heads that are in Borgin and Burkes are from) and it was really great.

I also really like the Sally Lockhart series by Philip Pullman, they're set in the Victorian times, and are sort of murder mystery books. I've just heard that BBC are making a TV adaptation to these books, so I'll be looking forward to that.

ok, besides Harry Potter, i've read:

Narnia (only 2 yet, but want to read all)

Animorphs (only 8 of them, cause from 9 to 54, the portuguese translator just stoped translating and no one else wanted to do that...)

Buffy, the vampire Slayer (I read the books and I'm watching the serie... I'm totally obcessed by it)

The princess's Diary (very cool, it has nothing to do with fairylands and all... i didn't like the films, because they had nothing to do with the books... the 1st film was good, but a little off the story and the 2nd one is just invented... none of that happens in the books)

and those are my favourites... the others i read but didn't like, or like but it's not worth to put here, etc...

stay cool

I still have my whole collection of Babysitter Club Books- The whole collection that i will get out and read from time to time. If any of you know what I'm talking about -Claudia is my fav of the girls. And Logan is such a sweetie. Ok well anyway if anyone shares this interest I will be jumping up and down

 I used to love the Babysitters Club! I thought it was the best....I dunno where all my books are though....

The books that I couldn't get enough of when I was younger are The Famous Five books. I LOVED them - reading and re-reading, listening to the audio books, watching the TV series (lol, Becky watched these the other day hehe).

Actually, I loved lots of Enid Blyton's books when I was little - The Adventure series, five find-outers, malory towers, naughtiest girl in school etc. etc, I had them all. And loved them!

Oh WOW!

Those! Those were my favourites!
In fact, I started reading proper books, not mags, with The Magical Faraway Tree. I still read them from time to time.

I'm reading To kill a mockingbird at the moment...it's so touching!

I used to like Darrell in Malory Towers, too! And the twins in St Clare's
hmmm. Need to go read those again.

Malory Towers were great. I always used to get so scared for Darrell when she slaps Gwendoline, even though I knew everything always worked out all right, lol.

Gwedolyne Mary Lacey!

I loved how Felicity was. Even though they were acting quite immature for their ages.
Alicia and the book with the cinderella play and the last book were my favourites

I love the last books of any series. I love the melancholy

OMG! I'm a huge His Dark Materials fan!!! Those books are sweet. I heard the play in London was over seven hours long. My cuz is an actor and went 2 c it. he said it was amazing.

Eragon and Eldest by Christopher Paloni are extremly good books. HP fans need 2 read these books,

Artemis Fowl is good, as is the Clique series by Lisi Harrison, The Face on the Milk Carton is good, and so is the Shadow Children Series (among the hidden, amond the betrayed, among this and among that )

Love Frances Hodgson Burnett. My fav. has always been the Secret Garden. =D (Maggie Smith was Mrs Medlock in the 90's movie version!)

Colin has always reminded me of Draco... until he gets all nice. Then he's not Draco...

Anyway, favourite books: The Trickster books by Tamora Pierce, P&P Jane Austen, anything Darren Shan and Scott Westerfeld, and Siberia by someone Hoffman... I forget her name. >< Oh. And the Twilight series, but in this day and age, it's a given, isn't it.
