Yo=hello dude=man; also can refer to a girl though or used like this, "Dude, you can't do that."
I hate when people say that but just to add that on to the list....

| OK here's some Cali slang. You should know that California is very diverse and there's a lot of different slang. Soooo... What's up? OR sup?= a common greeting Wut it dew?= pronounced" What it do?". Is also a greeting that mostly myspace teens use. Poser= somebody who acts like someone they aren't. Gangster= this is what you call someone in baggy clothes and such. Back in the day gangsters actually went around killing people hired by someone. Now this term is used innocintly, mostly. Wangster= a wanna be gangster. They usually don't want to be one but they think it's cool to dress like them. cholo= a Mexican (ga)wangster Chula= the girl version of the above da bomb= "OMG that's the bomb!" really cool loner= someone who tends to be by theirself, not into people aquaintainces chicka= a girl friend; this is Spanish and its used frequently nerd= many possibilities, someone who's book smart, or,"You're such a nerd!" just a joking around term for a bud awesome=really cool, amazing awesomist= the most awesome, like,"That is the awesomist purse ever!" or something bad= not good; usually used as in good or cool. " That was bad!" you would say after a friend just did a backflip or something sweet= sugary; cool, an exclamation, could be used like bad(above)"That was one sweet trick!" Radical= again, really cool. Lots of surfers and skaters use this term but everybody says it Badical= both bad and radical OK that's just for starters. I use a lot of these terms, so do my friends, but not all of them. | |

| ...oh, so THAT'S what 'rad' stands for! I wondered. Anyway, in New York, every area has slightly different slang. Here's some slang from Brooklyn that I personally use or have heard used...there's lots more that I don't use, cuz even different areas of Brooklyn have different slang...lol:
-Fuhgeddaboutit! --Lit. Forget about it. Used as 'don't even think about it' or 'never mind'. xD There's a sign on the highway on the border of Brooklyn that says, 'Leaving Brooklyn? Fuhgeddaboutit!' Lmao.
-I dunno (pronounced 'ah-dən-OH', one long drawled word) --I don't know.
-Heya Boss! --originating from the Italians *coughmafia* I think, this is what a random someone will call you when they don't know your name but are trying to be friendly. Usually just guys use this one.
-Jinx --something you say when two people say the same thing simultaneously. There are some rules about both of them having to keep silent, and whoever speaks first gets pinched, but ah...these are street rules, so they keep changing. xD
-Wack Job --crazy person. Can also say, 'she is wacked' for 'she's crazy.'
-For a song --for very little money. Used as in 'I got these gorgeous shoes for a song' or 'I love my job, but I'm doing it for a song.'
-Heya, Hiya, Howyadoin? --Hello, How are you? Yep, Joey from Friends actually didn't make that one up. Although he does it with a funny Italian accent. Most people say it in a flatter tone...or well, according to whatever accent they have. xD
-Didja? --Did you?
-D'jeet? --Did you eat?
-Hook you up --give someone a good deal on something, or help them get what they need. As in, 'Give me a call later and I'll hook you up with the guys you need to know.'
-He/she 'doesn't know from nothing' (plural--they don't know...)--insult for a person who isn't too bright.
-Sliding Pond --playground slide.
-the City --NYC.
-Shlub --a clumsy, stupid or otherwise useless and pathetic person. An insult, obviously.
And of course, we leave off the ends of words like comin', goin', hearin', etc. And we smush together a lot more words. I'll keep an ear open the next few days and come back with more...xD.
But by the way, nobody I know uses IM language out loud.

| We should make yellow this forums color, what do you all think? Just for fun.Well here's some more words for you...
coolio=just a fun word, like your friend tells you her weekend plans and you reply,"Coolio." 10-4=mostly men use this, it means "okay", it's just,"Ten four" cliques=the different groups of people at a school or something, like "HE's in a band clique" pronounced 'click'. fo sho=for sure suck it up=when you get hurt your friend might tell you this, it means just get over it and move on take it like a man=the same as'suck it up' go pick your stick=my friends and I say this to each other when one of us is in trouble. Back in the day when kids got in trouble their mother would tell them to go pick their switch for a spanking. Now you say it when a friend is in trouble like,"Your busted, you might as well go pick your stick, man"
Here's some of the IM talk my friends use... and if you didn't know you say the letters not what it spells... OMG=oh my gosh, an exclamation LOL=laugh out loud, what you say when something is funny JK=just kidding JJ=just joking, one of my friends accidentally made this up INBD=it's no big deal BTW=by the way I'll be back with more...

| I don't get BTW. I mean, it's harder to say than' by the way'. It has two extra syllables. *shrug* Usually slang forms when you try to slur words and speak faster. So it's weird that BTW actually takes longer. xD
I'm also realizing it's hard to pick out just American slang. Cuz slang goes international pretty fast and it gets difficult to pick out the origins. So I wonder if you guys already know half of these. Anyway.
Here we'd say 'cordatoo' for 'quarter to'. Also, I think you meant 'dawg'. (It should be noted that 'dawg' is mostly used by preteens, wannabes, or ironically.) ^^
Oh man --upset expression, like 'oh no'. You da man --expression of thanks and a compliment. (soft d) the 411 --Lit. information. Used as a variation of 'what's going on?' Some people will say 'So what's the 411? Fill me in.' (You can actually dial 411 on the phone for info.) kvetch --complain schlep --drag What's with you? --shortened version of 'what's wrong with you?' What's with that? --shortened version of 'what's up with that?' Funny --interesting, odd or weird. Can have good, bad or neutral connotations, depending on the sentence and tone of voice. xD
And then we've got TONS of insults. Ahh, the lovely insults. But I shan't post them here. xD

Daggum, or Daggumit!- used an expression of unhappy surprise. Usually someone who stubs there toe will yell Daggumit! Daggum is used in everyday conversation.
Up Yonder-This had me all O.o when I first heard it. Literally means, up thata way.
I grew up in Ohio, and really Ohio doesn't have much slang of its own. Unless it's drunk people trying to make "Go Browns!" into a single word, like gobrons or something.

Ex) I’m sure I’ve finished! I’ve vacuumed, dusted, swept – all that jazz! - cheesehead = Packers fan XD

| I am from Oklahoma and there is a lot of slang out in the country.
I think the main one is Ain't it is used where I live if you are trying to make a point. Example. That ain't any good! Correct way: That is not every good!. Most of the people from where I am from only use the word in private talk. When making public speeches and things we don't use it.
Police: The Fudge Police: Coppers Police: Smoky ( CB radio talk)

Some more that I didn't see...
Chickadee = Friendly term for female: "Hiya, chickadee!" Chilluns = Children. This one is mostly used in my family. Geez 'oh Pete = It's pretty much an exasperated exclamation that's used often in NW Indiana. Sho 'nuff = Sure enough. Goober = Goofy person. Usually used as a joking insult. Flat out = Completely or easily. "I flat out told her...." "She flat out lied to me."
