Here’s what we will be making today.

TUTORIAL: Vintage Icons Treebase

TO THIS TUTORIAL: Vintage Icons Treeicon

Ok, lets get started. Don’t worry, its pretty easy once you get the hang of it. First start a new blank canvas 100x100. This is standard icon size, but if you wish to make it bigger then go ahead. Fill the background in with white, I will explain later. Then paste in your image, for this tut I will be using this picture. If you use another picture you might have to fiddle with the brightness and contrasts. Each image has their own style.

Now duplicate your base, and set it to screen 100%. It should look something like this.

Next you will need to create a new layer and fill it with #071221 it’s a dark blue. Once you have filled it, change the layer style to exclusion. It should look something like this.

Then duplicated the filled layer and change it to Difference 100%.

And once again, duplicate the Exclusion layer, and place it on the vary top. Make sure its exclusion and not Difference.

Now comes the fun part. Heres where you will start to see a rapid change. Take your base image, and duplicate it once again, then bring it to the very front. Once that is done, desaturate the image and set it to Multiply 100%.

Next change your brightness and contrast. Each is different per image, I think I used 20 and 20.

To get the tore effects from the icon use this image.

Make that image a brush then use the easier tool with this image selected as a brush and click on your image. It will erase everything in the dark part. This is the reason why I told you make the background base white. If not your image wouldn’t look right. Now you should have something that looks like this.

Now all that’s left to do is add your text.

Awesome tutorial Herbs! For some reason my program turned them more gray than sepia-y, but I like them anyway :D
