| Welcome to the first discussion of the term. This will be, hopefully, an etertaining discussion, at least for me to read.My question for you is:"Which one is the best Planet in the Solar System (Pluto included)?"Which of the 9 planets is the best? Which one do you like the most? Which one would you chose to live in if you had to leave Earth?Everyone will be able to win up to 80 points in this discussion. However you'll be albe to win extra 20 points if you are:
- The Most Creative (if you have a quite an original opinion and way of express it) - The Most 'Researcher' (if you back up your opinion with quotes and sources) - The Most Passionate (if you strongly stand by your beliefs) The House With most Students participating will get 20 points.Let the discussion begin.Raistlin The Wizard Your Astronomy Professor

| If I had to leave Earth, I would very much enjoy moving to Mars. It had always been my favorite planet (besides Earth) and it is proven that it is the only other planet that may hold life. The fact that there is water on Mars means there could very well be tiny, even microscopic animals living there. If you go back far enough in time, some scientists believed that Mars actually was home to intelligent life forms, more so than ourselves. The thought of aliens existing on other planets has been argued for years, but never proven. No one has been able to prove that life does exist on Mars, but with new technology coming out every year, the future is not far away. Even though it is thought the surface of Mars cannot sustain any life, and humans could not live there, if we went down into Mars a little deeper, it is possible we could make it our new home. Scientists believe and hope that when the Mars rover comes back, they will find the key to being able to make life sustainable on the Red Planet. Sources- http://www.space.com/mars/ | |

| I'm partial to Earth, something about all that air to breathe, all the high speed internet connections. I guess I'm just a spoiled Earthling. If I had to leave Earth I don't think I'd want to settle on another planet, I think I'd want to stay on the spaceship, traveling to far away galaxies.
I think Earth is where we belong, it's where the spark of life was created, and, providing that we get serious about taking care of it, will last us for centuries to come. It's not that I don't love staring up into the night sky and thinking of all those wonderful planets out there, but at the end of the evening, it's my home planet that I want to stay.
I blame the other planet's names. I'm a huge fan of Greek mythology, not so much Roman mythology. If Venus were instead called Aphrodite, or Pluto (still a planet, people!) called Hades, then my opinions might differ. If that were the case I think I would most like to visit Hermes (Mercury to the uninformed). There is something about that sandal winged God that has always sparked my imagination. But since the planets are Roman themed, I'll keep myself to plan old Earth for the time being.

| Earth has to be my favorite planet. I mean, look at everything. No other planet is that great. We have air, life, food, people. Other planets have nothing but craters, 'aliens', weird creatures on them, lava, spaces storms, lots more. Yes we have volcanoes and storms, but not like they do. But if I had to live on another planet, it would be Neptune or Pluto (no matter what they say! it is and will always be a planet in my eyes). I like cold places...and yes it would be really cold and I could die, but it would be awsome to be there and see things other couldnt see. It would be nice there, being alone and you could do more studiest and record more things then NASA or others could ever find. | |

| Earth is way overrated! I mean, who would want to live in a crowded place with to many smelly humans, pollution, and a thinning ozone layer that when gone could give you third degree burns and blisters in three minutes and simply kill you in five? I think that Pluto would be the best planet to live on because of it’s size, temperature, and interesting qualities, such as not being considered a planet by scientists. Pluto would be a planet with a lower crime rate than Earth! To put it simply, Pluto’s size and uninhabitable regions would make it almost impossible for criminals to stay on the run, therefore creating immediate reaction and jail time for offenders of the law. Another plus about Pluto’s small size is that there would have to be a population limit due to the small living capacity. Actually, right now our planet Earth is on a trend called Tragedy of the Commons. The Earth only has so much carrying capacity and at the moment, we are entering the first bend in an upward shoot that has been repeated thousands of times in history, a prime example would be Easter Island. Easter Island, located in the South Pacific Ocean, was once a thriving community that was sustained off of the palm trees that grew in abundance on the island. Unfortunately, the people of Easter Island quickly used up the resources on the island and when the Dutch arrived in 1722, the island was barren, the people starving to death, and there were distinct signs of cannibalism. So, as you can see, the Earth is on a destructive cycle that leaves us only a few options. The option of choice for me is Pluto! As well as having all the above pluses about small size, Pluto is also nice, cold and comfy! For people who like the colder temperatures of subzero freezes, Pluto is the absolute very best place to live. And, Pluto’s constant attack from astronomers is sure to bring about a strong planetational pride! How’s about someone saying that ‘you’re planet’s smaller than mine’ to bring around a great bout of planetational unity? Therefore, for the reasons that I have stated, I think that Pluto is the best planet, and we should all totally move here!

| Which planet is the best?
Mars
I would have to live on mars for one simple reason men are from mars and women are from Venus so why not go live with all the men! I mean seriously if that was true which women on earth wouldn’t want to go there. Apart from the fact it would smell be really unclean and the men deprived. But you could just go there and take your pick of all the men in the world, now which girl is telling me they wouldn’t love that?
You want to know the best thing about the planet mars? They had a chocolate bar named after them and boy are they tasty ^.^ I’m sure living on mars with all those men and endless supply of mars bars would be fun XD.
Okay on a more serious note the planet mars has a lot of History being named after the Roman God of war. In my opinion this makes the planet more fascinating and attractive being interested in History and particularly ancient History such as the Romans and Egyptians. Not to mention that being the 4th planet away from the sun its going to be pretty hot and I can always work on my tan XD.
I mean living there would be uber cool especially because the planet looks like something out of Star wars I mean take a look at this picture http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Mars_Hubble.jpg Star wars much?
