"Running, Flying, Falling"

Shadow ran, she was running away, far away. Behind her, echoing in the shadows, she could hear the deep roar of her father. She sprang over a log, trying desperately to put distance between herself and the demon behind her. She heard more people running alongside her, but in her fear she took no notice. She felt a sharp shot of pain in her chest, and she looked down to see an arrow. Her friends, Holly and Natalie knelt down beside her in fear and silent prayer. She looked up at them.
“May you stay safe...” Were her final words...

"Goodbye is all we say"
Violet’s hair twisted with the wind, blowing around her face. She ran as fast as she could, running towards the grave site. She felt tears in her eyes as she collapsed in front of it, laying her head on the ground. “Seth…why?” She asked herself, shaking. She lifted her head and looked at the grave stone, tears falling again. She touched the grave lightly, the dirt staining her fingers. She started shaking again, finding it hard to breath. “Seth…come back.” She whispered softly, falling against the grave. She screamed out, letting anger that she held go, lost in the wind.

Killer Bunnies

“Oh my god! Why would they do that? Xander, make it stop!”

Anya peered from behind her fingers at the scene playing out on the television, reaching for Xander with her spare hand.

“Oh Xander, make it stop,” Spike mimicked, “get a grip, you daft bint. It’s just a bleedin’ rabbit.”

“It’s okay, Ahn,” Xander comforted, patting his girlfriend’s knee and shooting a poisoned glance at the bleached vampire, “even I’m a little wigged by that.”

“You live on a soddin’ Hellmouth and Monty Python’s killer rabbit scared you?” Spike rolled his eyes and slumped back into the plastic orange of the chair.

“Shut it, Mr-I-cry-at-Titanic,” Xander replied.

“Sod off.”

“Almost there,” I panted, my little legs kicking at the gravel beneath my feet.

Within my mind I saw it, I felt victory on my lips as I pushed harder, running faster, my arms pulled in to my ribs at either side, swishing backwards and forwards in time with my legs, pain rocketed within my rib cage, my lungs burned from the quick intakes of breath. My legs ached and went numb as I forced myself onwards.

I saw it then in my mind, all mine, soon. I ran into the house, into the kitchen and screamed.

“WHERE'S MY DOUGHNUT?”

Running Killed the Pain

She was running, running faster and faster. Her lungs were burning, the pain in her side getting worse and worse each time her foot hit the pavement. But she was winning. And it helped her forget the pain. Running on the track, to a set destination, running and running and not thinking of anything else. Not thinking about how he left her, how her best friend abandoned her for others. Not thinking about her horrible audition, the fact that everyone she loved tried to comfort her, making her feel worse. None of that mattered right now. Running killed the pain.

Waiting



She sat in the waiting room, her head down as her eyes
focused on nothing in particular, except for the tiny scrapes on the concrete
floor. Sweat ran from her forehead as her head pumped in fear. What was he
going to tell her? What were her results going to show?





She sighed and closed her eyes for the minute wondering if
this could be it. If these test results brought the wrong results then she did
not know what she would do.





Finally he called her name, a smile on his face as he handed
her the results.





“Well done” He said, “You have passed your final driving
test!”

Can't Let Go

“No,” I whisper. He couldn’t have meant it, couldn’t have actually done it! But as I walk into the room, my hand clamps over my mouth as my teeth bite into my lip. He has done it. His clothes aren’t in the closet and a suitcase is missing, too. Oh my God. I turn and run from the room and out the door. His car is gone. Good God, he is gone. A strangled sob escapes my clamped mouth and it’s surreal. But it’s the country and the roads are bad. Maybe… There’s no time for thinking, so I ignore my thoughts and begin sprinting down the dirt driveway. Every thud of my heart pounds his name: Thomas. I have to find him. I can't let go.

All sound was lost to Katie, who was waiting for her shot at greatness. Her beating heart was the only thing she could hear. The sudden movement of the other competitors told her it was time to take her mark.

All the sound came back to her at once: the screaming crowd, her own ragged breathing, even the sound of the judges footsteps, getting ready to start the race. At the command, she got set, ready to race. The gun went off.

The sound of the crowd disappeared as she ran with all her energy, throwing 100% into the performance. Time was in slow motion as she crossed the finish line: had she won?

I had to reach the line. I wanted to cross it even though I had always been told never to cross the line otherwise there would be trouble, but not this time. I had to cross the line, I had to push the boundary otherwise I would never know what was behind it.

I pushed hard, taking each direction I could think of. I could see their eyes watching me carefully as I neared the line. I was going to shock them, I knew it, though it must be done.

I knew I had crossed the line when cheers erupted. I had won! Won the race for the first time!

Matthews mind was made up, he winked at the men the turned on his heal; and ran. The office was long and narrow. Running down it reminded him of the 100m sprint, he would have been enjoying this liittle memory but he was too frightened of the men that were now runnig behind him. Running Running Running, the window was getting closer now... *SMASH* He was out the window now… maybe he’d broken a few toes, but he was glad to be away from them. He ran on down the street anyway, hoping they’d leave him alone now.

A Thousand Miles

All that could seen for miles was the long stretch of highway, and sand; plus the tumbleweed that just happened to tumble by her.

“I really am in the middle of nowhere,” she muttered to herself.

The roar of an old pickup truck was heard after what was probably. She stood up, dusting off her denim jeans, and stuck out her thumb, hoping that this one would stop for her. It did, and she hopped in. And when asked where she was headed she replied, “Missouri.” If she was going to be dying she’d do anything to see him just one last time.
