It's been long since Victoria was killed, and since Renesmee was born. Jake obviously didn't leave the Cullens, and eventually Leah got sick of being a loner. Seth eventually left Sam's pack for good, and all three members of the new pack became part of the Cullen clan in a sense. Nessie's growth prevented the Cullens from staying in Forks for too long. Charlie started getting too suspicious, and honestly, the had stayed in Forks much longer than they had originally intended to.

The werewolf shapshifters are finally starting to get along with the vampires, and the vampires are accepting the werewolves more like family. Life seems like it couldn't get any better. Of course, they've refused various times, insisting that they would rather not be there. The Volturri are getting anxious and annoyed, and they've decided it's time to take action. They're ready to force the three to join, at a threatening price. When it comes down to it all, is death the price they'll have to pay so that they don't have to join the Volturri. They might just have to travel to hell and back to stop the Volturri from forcing them into the clan.
