Halloween Potions Presents: Spooky Tales!

For this class you will need to write a short story on a scary potions tale. It must be a new and unique story. The minimum word count is 500 words. You can either post the story in its entirety here, or publish it on Hogwarts Quill and provide the link here. This class will be worth up to 70 points.

A bonus 30 points for a story banner (graphic should be 700 x 110)

Total possible points: 100.

It was Halloween night, and we were locked in the potions room. The night was cold, and the room held that scary atmosphere that made you want to scream. There was nothing to do, no one heard us pounding on the doors and screaming. Trapped, for there were no windows in the dungeon. This was not how I wanted to spend my Halloween. There were parties going on throughout the school! Why was I here!
All of the kids in that room with me that night were feeling the same way. Bored out of our minds, we decided to start telling stories. Our version of horror stories, only this time we turned it into a bit of a game. The story had to involve a potion gone wrong. Or right, depending on which side you are on.
So, pushing all the desks away and keeping the cauldrons lit for warmth, all us kids sat around in a circle to tell stories. Each kid had a chilling tale to tell, each one sent shivers up my spine. But I had one that would blow them away. They wouldn’t know it was coming.
Finally, it was my turn. I looked around at my fellow classmates and enemies, and started my tale:
“Being a Slytherin, I have always been around dark objects. Defense, of course, but all the same, dark. Well, one day, my father came home with a friend, named Jonas. Jonas was a creative bloke; he loved making potions and spells. Very experimental. And when he came home, he had a new potion he had been thinking of brewing. My father offered him a place in our home, a place to stay for a while. And he accepted, naturally, for he had been kicked out of all the wizarding hotels around for his potions gone bad.”
“He was working on a potion to silence someone. Temporary, or so he said, that’s what it would be. “
“He set up his cauldron in his guest room, and whenever the door opened, you could smell his latest creation. Sometimes the smells were sweet, inviting you to take a drink. Other times they were sour, or just plain disgusting.”
“It was the night of July 29th, 2004. I had just come home from a party, for my friend Josie. When I got there, I saw Jonas on the floor. His mouth was wide open, a horrible cloud over top of him. I noticed his cauldron was empty.”
“I screamed for my father, but nothing came out of my mouth. I felt myself getting weaker every time I opened my mouth. Jonas grabbed my arm, and shook me untill I shut up. He grabbed paper, and wrote that he was sorry. He said his potion did silence people, forever! It sucked the life out of you every time you tried to make a sound!”
“I grabbed Jonas by the collar, and started to slowly crawl out from under the cloud, back to the front door. Once outside, we tried to formulate a plan to get rid of the potion. Once we were inside, we couldn’t say the spell.”
“When my parents came home, they joined in. We tried over a hundred spells, and nothing worked. We would have to kill it while inside, but that was impossible. Jonas had created a monster.”
“The ministry was called in, but they didn’t listen to our warnings. They sent two guys straight inside, to finish it off. I never saw those guys again”
“When I woke up the next morning, having spent a hard night sleeping on the ground outside, the cloud was gone. It disappeared without a trace. The ministry said that when the cauldron went out, it went away. We haven’t been stupid enough to relight that cauldron again. It still has traces of what we later named ‘The blob’.”
“Though the ministry says that it is gone, I am not too sure. Sometimes, I swear I see it, floating around the school or my home, following me. You might want to watch your back, kids. This thing is lethal.”
Just then, the lights blew out, and a dark cloud settled over the kids.
