| FENCING : Round 1Welcome to the 1st round of the FENCING event. Please read the instructions carefully InstructionsThis first round works like a wizards duel. Please look in the Duelling Tournaments forum if you need to find out how duels work. You are each against one another armed with only a wand. You are situated in Hogwarts castle and grounds. The castle and grounds are empty of people except for those within this event. You may start anywhere within the castle or grounds. Be creative and inventive of spells you use. Take note of your surroundings. And good luck! Remember - you MUST complete this first round to go onto the next round and after that it is the process of elimination Points Possible can be found within the points post though are subject to change (and probably will get higher!!). Only those who made it through to the final round can participate

| Rigby crept into the Hogwarts library on silent tip toes, careful to make no noise that would announce her position. Today was a free for all duel throughout all of Hogwarts and its grounds. She was eager to find a good place to start in, hopefully allowing some of the other duelers to eliminate each other before making her big move.
But Rigby also had an ulterior motive to be hiding out in the library.
She headed towards the Forbidden section. Rumor had it that there was a book of unbeatable dueling spells locked away there, and Rigby needed all the help she could get in this Event. She would be dueling people that she had never faced before. The thought of coming up against Raisty or Gemma or Herby unprepared was not an option.
Her heart was beating so loudly as she began pouring her Acid Lock potion on the lock of the Forbidden section that Rigby had to pause and get her breathing under control again. Otherwise her own heartbeat would mask the footsteps of her opponents. To her immense relief the potion worked, and she slipped inside the barred door. Marveling at the selection of books, she began her search. After what felt like hours, in truth only minutes, Rigby had located the book she sought.
Dueling With Unbeatable Spells by Flossie Darling.
Trembling hands plucked the book from its perch. Rigby fled the Forbidden Section, taking precious moments to shut the door behind her and to do her best job to conceal the broken lock, although she did not have the time to repair it. She hunkered down in a shadowy corner of the library and read the book with the weak light that streamed through a nearby castle window.
She practiced the Shrinking spell (Minuo which translated literally meant to grow small) and the Lentesco Virga or Sticky Wand spell, which made your opponents spell's stick to them instead of their intended target. Soon Rigby had memorized several dozen new spells, practicing on the books nearest her. Pleased with her success, she began the lengthy process of returning each book to its original condition. No sense giving away her location with sloppy spell work.
Closing the book, Rigby climbed to her feet. She climbed the book shelf to the top, making a comfortable nest there with her robe and a blanket she had taken from her bed this morning. From here she could see the entire library and the castle grounds out of the nearby window. She would not be so easy to see. Grinning, Rigby nestled, awaiting the duels to begin.

| Chelle stood inside the Hufflepuff common room, sure that no one except Hufflepuff duellers would be able to enter. It was unusually empty as she stood in the midde of the room with a small pocket watch which she tapped with her wand.
"salus" She whispered as the pocket watch glowed a bright golden colour. Perhaps a weak backup - to have a 'safety' porthole which would bring her back to the common room if needed, though if it kept her safe, it was worth it.
Quickly, Chelle produced a shield charm around her before exiting into the corridor, wand held at the ready.

| It was dark, in that part of the castle, where Mel sat alone in a dusty corner. All she could smell was the dust and stale air of a room long since forgotten in a school too big for its inhabitants. It wasn’t that she was afraid of duelling – she’s a Gryffindor, hello! – but she wasn’t exactly thrilled to experience something she wasn’t ready for. Clutching her wand tightly to her chest, Mel had been sitting there, in that dark, unremembered corner for what must have been a few hours, now. She wasn’t exactly sure what was happening elsewhere, but no one had encroached upon her place yet and she was grateful. She needed to find her inner lion, her courage to face what was surely to be some terrible, unforeseen disaster of cataclysmic propor- No. She was just being irrational again. Nothing fatal was going to happen. She just had to grit her teeth and bear it. Creeeak. Mel jumped and almost – almost, mind you – squeaked. What was that? Was it someone else? Was it the enemy? Some terrible beastie? She hoped it was just Mrs Norris – or, better, nothing at all. Just to be safe, she crawled further into the gloom of her corner, and backed herself into the stone wall completely. She hadn’t been up here before, in this tower that didn’t belong to the east of the castle, but also didn’t belong to the west, but somewhere in between, and so didn’t know its nuances as well as she would have liked. So, when she hit rock that shifted under her weight, Mel was wholly unprepared for the shift in support to her back when the wall moved – and fell into the chute. She tried not to scream – tried, and failed. So, screaming as though a pack of rabid and highly irregular Snorkacks were following her with murder in their eyes, Mel shot down that hidden chute – perhaps an ancient garbage disposal? – and when she came out the other end, she was sitting almost in the middle of the Quidditch Pitch. “Bloody wonderful,” | |

| Kate looked over her shoulder. Nobody had even come close to her hiding place yet. That she was grateful for. Today was the grand duel and this was also her first duel. Because of the duel, all students and houselves were out of the castle today other than participants and judges, Kate was in the Kitchens, hoping that nobody was around the corner.
No. She thought to hereself. Nobody is near here. Kate knew that there was nobody near because of her shield charm. It was new, fresh and very up-to-date. The charm protected her from others for 2 hours and would tell her if anybody was within a 50 meter radius. So far, nobody had entered it. So far.
Assuring that nobody was near, Kate decided to re-do her shield charm with the simple incantation of "Sheildus" and settled down into her spell book. Kate had got it out weeks ago, before the competion had even been anounced and realised that it would be good if she needed any good spells to defend herself - or attack others.

| Perched high upon the bookshelves in the library, Rigby was able to see a Gryffindor suddenly appear on the Quidditch pitch. Straining her eyesight she was able to see that it was Mel. She wondered what the Gryffie's strategy was, at the same time bemoaning her ability at long distance spells.
Rigby flipped through the pages of her spell book, hoping to find something that could help her out. She wanted to win this event, not just participate. The book had nothing about casting long distance spells. Rigby shut the book in frustration, then closed her eyes, trying to think. Surely she could come up with something?
There was no easy way down to the pitch, as she couldn't apparate. Although it had almost appeared as if Mel had apparated onto the field. Rigby gave it a quick try, but was unable to. So Mel had found some other way down there. If Rigby tried to sneak up on her, no doubt the Gryffindor would have had time to cast spells on the pitch that would alert her to Rigby's presence. Then the answer came to her.
She did know one spell that could travel a long way. It was a simple, almost childish spell that normally Rigby would never cast in a duel. But she needed to do something, and this qualified as that. Taking a deep breath, Rigby cast Whisper Voice.
"Barba Vox Vocis!" she said. Pointing her wand at her throat she began to whisper, knowing that her voice would carry softly to where Mel stood. The only drawback to the spell is that it would probably reach other opponents. But that actually might work in my favor, Rigby thought, if I can turn all my opponents into paranoid players then maybe they can finish each other off.
"Behind you. They're right behind you, and more are coming. They aren't playing by the rules. you're in danger. Danger." Rigby continued her paranoid whispered chant, hoping it would have some effect on her opponents. It was certainly giving her the creeps.

| ‘Wow,’ Mel thought to herself. ‘That sounds almost like…’ Eyes widening in horror, Mel swatted at the air. She could hear them all around her, even if she couldn’t hear them. Dropping her wand in the fuss, Mel waved her arms around madly, hoping to hit one of them and save herself. The sound persisted, and in terror she screamed, “AHH! NO, THE KILLER INVISIBLE BEES ARE TRYING TO EAT ME! HELP!” It was at this point that the sounds turned into something more…something with words. She froze, arms mid helter-skelter, and listened to the disembodied whisper. Mel gave a relieved sigh – it was just a warning of danger, not killer bees. The last word echoed in her ears like a mantra. “Danger.” With a gulp, Mel quickly dived for her dropped wand, and scooping it up, she yelled the first spell that came to mind. “Snowus Maximus!” And, suddenly, Mel was engulfed in a flurry of snow. “Right,” Shaking the snowflakes from her eyelashes, Mel gave herself a mental shove and tried to think of a more useful spell – what could help her now? What was it that her mother always used to tell her? “Melanie, if ever you find yourself in the middle of a snowstorm, surrounded by enemies - pray for a miracle, because your chances are against you.” ‘Gee, thanks for the advice, mum…’
Mel twirled her wand around in her fingers as the snow started to lose its momentum and settle. Soon she’d be visible once more, and she was still vulnerable, out there in the open. She had to get to safety, she needed a diversion… Yes! “Distraho!” The Distraction Spell wizzed through the air in a shower of multi-coloured sparkles, and Mel ran in the opposite direction, robes flying around her ankles as she headed for the cover of the stands.

| Rose closed her eyes and took in several deep breaths. She was sitting outside the West Wing, now engadged in a wizard duel. And it wasn't jsut her and one other. No. There where many people participating in this duel.
Rose was scared. She had never been good at hand-on duels, and now, it was like playing lazer tag in a huge manion. Except wands are way more dangerous that lazer tag. After her heart slwed a few frantic beats, the Huffie girl peeked around the corner. Nobody. Not even a passing Proffesor. It was actually quite silent....
She crawled out into the open on her hands and knees, very carefully listening for any sudden change in the atmosphere. Her wands was curled up tightly in her left hand. Rose began to question herself. Was this really worth it? Since she was already a nervous wreck...
She shook the thought out of her mind. Anything was worth getting points for her lovely house! She wondered how many other Huffies where competing. Probally not many. Feeling a sudden burst of courage, Rose stood up and cried, "here I am, fools! Come and get me!" A few seconds pased before she relized what she had done. Rose bit her lip and ran for it. "Stupid!"

| Kate looked up. She heard a shout, more than one shout, a scream and some whispering voices. She knew that the voices were only a tactic - she had read about them - but the scream and shout sounded oh too real. Panicing, Kate got to her feet. It wasnt safe where she was, anybody could find her, she'd have to move.
So, glancing back behind her, Kate cast her hiding spell upon herself so that she would be invisible to all onlooking opponents. "Occulto!" Kate whispered, pointing her wand at herself, the spell was new, she had never tried it before and so was unsure on how long it would last. But,after stealing a quick glance to be sure she was invisible and keeping her fingers crossed, Kate walked up the kitchen stairs, past the portrait of the fruit bowl and the tickilish fruit, and into the corridor, awaiting her first opponent.
"Come out come out wherever you are..." Kate called, in a calm voice, creeping forward, hoping to scare some opponents.

| Rose ran till she felt safe, then ducked behind a large colum. She panted franticly, gasping for air. It hadn't reached her mind yet that she could use her wand for other things besides just dueling in this match.
The Hufflepuff silently rose to her feet and snuck around the cold marble. After making sure SHE saw nobody, she hoped to the next, then the next, then the next, untill she reached the stares that where placed between every section of the path leading to the lake. It was a fairly popular trail, so Rose crammed herself like a wedge inbetween the side supporter. Suddenly, it was very quiet, and she stood there, wand at the ready, until an unsuspeting victim passed by.

| Looking around, Kate saw nobody, the silence was starting to creep her out and she wasnt sure how much longer she could take. Pausing to take a breather, Kate turned round. She thought she had heard something - but she wasnt sure- hoping it was in her imagination, Kate turned back round and set off again. She couldnt afford to stop now.
Deciding that she needed to know her opponents, Kate decided to cast the revealing spell. "Homenum Revelio". However, as she turned, Kate realised that the spell hadnt worked! Muttering to herself, Kate remembered one of the things that the proffesur had told her,Homenum Revelio wouldnt work.
Poo. She thought. This is just brilliant. Now what? Trying to remember what else she could or couldn't do, Kate continued walking, trying to hone her hearing on any stray footsteps.

| Polly stood outside the door her heart beating widely. Drawing her wand slowly she held it up to her face the cool wood placed lightly against her cheek. Closing her eyes she took a deep breath and pushed the door open. Her wand held in front of her tightly by one hand.
It was empty completely and utterly empty. Polly’s heart pounded faster. The silence scared her more than a battle field full of opponents. That’s what she was made for. What she had practised her whole life. Her breathing began to rasp as she closed the door behind her.
The room was vast with royal blue marble in elaborate patterns on the floor. Shimmering up creating an innocent pleasant look to it. But the floor wasn’t ideal for fighting. My bare feet slapped against the cold floor echoing loudly around the room. Curtains of silk fell around the walls. Enhancing the warm fire roaring at the end of the room. Its ember glow radiating warm heat drawing me closer towards it. My small grey dress clung tightly to my cold skin as I came to face the fire.
Her wand held softly in her hand she turned to face the door and placed herself in an L stance her wand curled above her head. Polly cried ’Expelliarmus’ towards the door the first spell she would perform if she was ever in the position of fighting. Which Polly knew very soon she would be.
Switching into a Front stance Polly cried ’Protego’ and repeated to herself ‘A good defence is a good offence.’ And she continued to fire spells in the direction of the door practising until someone else came through there.
L stance: Bent slightly backwards 70% of the weight on the back leg and 30% on the front leg. Front leg pointing forwards and back leg at a 90 degree angle.
Front stance: Front knee bent far over so the foot is invisible and the back leg is held shoulder width behind and locked out straight.

| Rose held her breath even tighter as she herd footsteps close by. She dared not reveal herself yet, so she waited with baited breath. The footsteps stopped, but the silence was fallowed by a faint muttering of words and...a spell? Rose inched herself forward, peeking around the collum carefully. She didn't see anyone, but knew where the voice was comming from.
She pulled her wand up infront of her, taking small, silent steps after another. She wondered if there was another dull going on over there. It was awfully quiet if there was one....but why would someone do a spell just to do one? Did the spell eve work? Rose certently didn't see anything...
As she got closer and closer to the edge of the hall, she ran over different spells in her mind. She was ready.
Rose lurched forward, pointing her wand at the girl and shouting, "EXPELLIARMUS!". Rose crossed her finger's, hoping the spell would hit, before she quickly realized who she was dueling.
"Kate? Is that you?" | |

Kate heard the person say something as she went to regain her wand and realised who it was. "Rose?" Kate asked, she hadnt heard what Rose had said over the blast but she could tell who it was.
"I didnt know YOU were in the duel!" Kate exclaimed, relaxing a little.
"Now what? We CANT duel each other!" She wondered aloud.

| It was getting dark…and cold, before Mel finally decided that no one was really after her. Standing up, she dusted herself off and sighed. Maybe – just maybe – she was a tad paranoid.
Feeling silly, she left the relative safety of the Quidditch stands and headed across the pitch, back towards the castle. As she walked, Mel kept her wand in her hand. She had worked on her reflexes all the previous week, and was eager to try ‘em out in a real duel.
As the pitch fell behind her and she drew closer to the castle, Mel thought she saw something flicker in one of the windows. She froze, and accidentally spilt sparks from her wand in her sudden agitation.
A cat jumped out of the window and slinked onto the ledge on the side of the castle. In relief, Mel laughed. So paranoid.
But…just to be safe, she cast a ward that would alert her to any aggressive spells or hexes cast her way. “Erectus pro tentatio!”
She smiled as she felt the ward wrap around her, like a warm blanket. Of course, it didn’t protect her from spells, just warned her of them, but it was better than nothing. And it wasn’t like anyone would know to cast a spell that was non-aggressive by nature aggressively.
Her stomach gurgled, reminding Mel that she hadn’t eaten since breakfast. Deciding that it was easier to duel on a full stomach, Mel directed her feet towards the kitchens.

| Raistlin decided to give a long heads start all of the other duelers, he had in fact pondered if he should enter such duels race but at last he decided to do so but he would not show anything new, that he strictly reserved to the duels tournament. That meant he was only going to use spells, charms and incantations he had used in the past.Opening his closet he took his duels clothes. A cotton dark-green full-length robe with silver embroidered velveteen cuffs and separate hood trimmed in silver and black. Runes alongside the cuffs saying “Gods Protection”. He had spent long hours studying runes trying to find the best combination that’d give him a good protection until he had finally discovered it. That particular set of runes helps him to avoid minor spells by more easily dodge them.In the other side of the room, opposing to his closet was a huge cupboard. Opening one of its drawers he took a saddlebag with Acacia leaves. Then from the top of the cupboard he took a small bottle labeled “Dead Man’s Blood” and an Invigoration Draught. Carefully he placed the saddlebag around his waist attached to his belt and the bottles carefully in pockets inside his robe. Then without a sound he left the room and headed towards one of the many rooms in HE. He walked silently through several HE students on the way. No one dared to speak to him or attack him. Finally he reached a door in the 3rd floor that lead towards a big chamber. Without fear or hesitation he opened the door. Surveying the room with one long look he then closed the door. He looked at it. HE castle had no ‘weak’ doors but this one was especially grand. It was made of strong oak and had a respectful thickness. Gold hand door knob, 20 feet high and 10 feet long. He took some steps from it and with an arch wand movement spelled “Подделанный Металл (Forged Metal in Russian)”. Instantly both the door and the wall around it became thick metal. The door was now useless. He knew that’d not stop any stronger enemies from entering but it should annoy them a little bit he hoped. He checked the room, it was clear, no furniturea simple room with simple purple walls, ready to support some damages."Okay, let's add some life and other colors to this room"Standing near the door he made an arch movement covering the whole room and said "DÉCORATION DE PIÈCE (Room Decoration in French)". From the tip of his wand erupted a big dark mahogany wood two-door closet , a low silver ornate table and a wide velveteen sofa, all of which reflected his taste for antiques."Ah, much better now. This furniture will turn out to be very useful during the combat."Raistlin smiled, he wasn't finished yet. He had some more tricks prepared. Pointing his wand to the sofa he said "SCHLANGEKETTEN (Snake Chains)". Anyone who now sat there would automatically be chained by large powerful snakes.Heading towards the closet he opened the door a little bit to look like someone was hiding inside and took three steps backwards. Then he performed another spell "PERSONALITÀ DEL COMBATTENTE (Fighter Personality)". If his adversary went near the closet it would gain life and start fighting the person like an unstoppable fighter. That chamber was really big he’d be able to do a lot of moves there. He headed towards one of the lateral walls and took his bottle of Dead Man’s Blood. Uncorking it he put one of his fingers inside and started to draw a human-sized pentagram. When he finished the bottle was empty, tipping it with the wand he spelled “EVANESCO” and the bottle vanished. That pentagram was a last resource if things got really ugly to his side. Though he knew if he let the pentagram exposed others would see through his plans and destroy it. A chameleon spell was the only solution, pointing his want to the pentagram he casted “Gjemt Hensikter (Hidden Intentions in Norwegian)”. The pentagram was only an intention if things go wrong, not an actual threat right now, that’s why that spell could work on it.Raistlin placed himself in the far end of the room facing the door. He pointed his wand towards the wall opposed to where the pentagram had been drawn and shouted “BOMBARDA”. Raistlin had purposely placed himself far from where the spell hit the wall to so it wouldn’t hit it hard and destroy it, just enough to make dust fly across the room. Quickly before the dust would settle, he casted “Petrificação (Petrification in Portuguese)”. All dust particles connected and formed a wall dividing the room in two. Continuing he casted another spell towards the dust wall “Trasparenza (Transparency in Italian)” and the wall seemed to vanished as it was clearer as a glass wall would be, it was almost as there was no wall there. Raistlin allowed himself a smile. The wall wasn’t very thick though. Moving his wand in wave movements he casted one last spell to the wall “ゴム表面 (Rubber surfaces in Japanese)” the wall should now be able to bounce back a few spells before giving in he hoped.Raistlin realized he had no shield on him yet. He thought about his favorite cooling shield the Ice Crystals Web and decided to make a change on it. Swirling his wand around himself he casted “反复思考血腥的钻石网 (Revolving Bloody Diamonds Web)”. From the air small diamonds appeared around him and with a sudden movement they moved under his clothes and pierced into his skin, Raistlin couldn’t help out from letting out a small scream even though he was waiting for that. The process took about 5 minutes but now Raistlin had tiny moving diamonds on his skin. Diamonds are the hardest stones there is and one of the hardest materials in the world so it should give him a good protection. Also the movement would allow deflecting some more direct spells if he got hit.To finish Raistlin had only one last thing to do. A truth spell. Closing his eyes he recited the incantation:Truth Spell (click to listen)Truth Spell“For those who want the truth revealedOpen their hearts and secrets unsealedFrom now until is now againAfter which the memory endsFor those who come to my presenceOnly truth will be spoken and heard in each sentence.”With that spell everyone, him included, in that room would be compelled to tell truth. It was a high risk to make, especially as he had something to hide like the pentagram . What was done was done he only had to wait now. | |

| Rose shook her head and gritted her teeth. She didn't want to duel her fellow huffie and friend! This was not fun anymore.....actually, it was never fun in the first place.<BR><BR>"I don't know, Kate. Maybe we can just.....pretend we never bumped into eachother. Yeah... We could like, just keep going the way we where before." <BR><BR>Kate had picked her wand back up, but Rose didn't feel in harms way. She wanted to continue on, forgeting about this little incodent, but she wasn't sure if it would be allowed.<BR><BR>"i wonder....if we do do that, will we be disqualified for not dueling?"<BR><BR>Rose then had a worring thought. "Wait, if I go that way, and you go that way, you promise you won't turn on me, will you?" She felt ashamed for thinking her friend would do that, but she did not want the be out of this competition. "I promise I won't." | |

| Kate stood there, Rose had just suggested that they split upand not tell anyone about meeting and Kate had to admit that she liked the idea. What was the point in dueling each other? They were friends for goodness sakes! "Ok." Kate agreed, "I promise too." She flashed Rose a grin, then headed off in her original direction. Boy do I hope we dont get disqualified. She thought. Boy do I hope Rose keeps her word!
Deciding it would be a good idea to try and find a good opponent, Kate headed off in the direction of the great hall. Such a big place, ther had ot be SOMEBODY along the way. She just hoped she wouldnt crash into Rose again, if she did, she knew she would have to fight her, there was no question about it.

| Jaime ran down the corridor. He had a stich in his side and he was a little out of breath, but he didn't stop. the duel has started half an hour ago, and now he wouldn't get the pints that the others were getting. he cursed himself for sleeping in. There wasn't that many people in Hufflepuff common room, so that must mean that a few of them were at least in the durl. Maybe Huffies were winning and they wouldn't loose any poiunts, maybe he didn't have to go. Jamie shrugged this feeling off and kept running towards the door at the end of that corridor.
Jamie pulled his wand out of his jeans. he hadn't bothered with any of his specail gear this time, because he was in such a rush. he'd only just managed to put socks on never mind tight dragon skin clothes. And he couldn't be bothered untangling his silky flowy stuff either.
He held his wand at the ready as he opened the door and charged in.
"ATTACKKKKK!!!" he yelled running forward his wand at the ready. The first people he saw was Kate, Rose and Raistlin. Where they the only poeple?
"Levicorpous!" Jamie yelled at Rai, hoping it would work.

| Kate span around. She had just heard something that un-nerved her. It was "Levicorpus" The leg lifting spell that copletely lifed you off you feet and left you dangling by your ankle in the air. It wasnt a nice spell as you could always feelthe blood rush to your head- unless you had the all important "protecto" spell that protects you from all incapasibility spells (leg locker curse, bat-bogey hex, Levicorpus etc).
Thinking about this spell, Kate decided to use it, it would be useful if there was somebody running around casting Levicorpus! So, whilst ducking, so nobody would see her if they came around the corner whilst she was casting, Kate cast "Protecto!" on herself.
"Right, so where are these guys, I need to find SOMEONE if I am going to get any points!" She thought and without another word, she stood up and started to walk around the school again.
After a while Kate came across some upturned stools which had probobly been caused by running people -or person. After the shivers down her spine subsided, she continued to walk then, thinking better of it, Kate turned back around. Best to find out which way the person had been running in. So, casting the ever trusty "Bonala" Spell, which would tell her the direction of the runner, Kate turned and tiptoed off in the direction of the 3rd floor corridor hoping to find a dueling partner.
