The world is full of many and varied wonders. As Industrialisation sunk its claws further into the earth, and society changed to match the growing demands and needs that followed this process, strange things began to happen, and by the end of the Nineteenth Century, the world was transformed. Machines were the order of the day, and steam-powered engines ran the world. Mechanists (those who built machines) began to create a new series of products to make life easier, but instead they were made to create bigger and better machines for war and for murder. Greedy men became yet greedier, and the good and just fell to the wayside as society drifted into two distinct classes: the Upper Class and the Lower Class. These two classes define a person on the most basic level, and so the animosity grew, and continues to grow.

Few people dare to challenge the Class system, not when the machines made for war and murder do their job so successfully... more than any Mechanist could have predicted a mere decade earlier. The Upper Class holds the law, the police, and the machines which keep it that way. But in this desolate setting there are a few who manage to slip under the radar, who do challenge the system, and who seek for something more substantial than the gloss that they are fed throughout their lives.

One such group of people – knowingly and unknowingly challenging this status-quo – are about to shake things up, and perhaps lead the world on a path to reconciliation... or ruin.

Phoenix

The main protagonist, Phoenix is a genius with machines. If it’s broken, and made of gears and metal, he’ll be able to fix it. In a world where life could not go on smoothly without machines, his talent should have been recognised, and his skills used to the maximum of effect. But something always gets in the way of Phoenix’s efforts to procure a place in the workforce... his birth. Born of the Lower Class and orphaned, Phoenix has no life waiting for him, no matter the demand for his craft. Despite the bleak prospects that await him, this does not prevent him from searching for a sense of place and worth, and so he travels from city to city, plying his trade where he can.

The Earl

The antagonist of the piece, the Earl is a man with lose morals and little sense of family and home. He buys his way into the Upper Class by means of extortion and thievery, and lays claim to his title of Earl using cunning and wickedness. A sickly man, he is obsessed with the idea of eternal youth, immortality and longevity. His fear of death, and his fear of pestilence and plague which stems from this, is derivative of his life-long affliction with Parkinson’s Disease which has aged him prematurely. Thus he conducts dubious experiments in his mansion under the guise of science.

Marcel

A Lower Class everyday worker-man, Marcel is all muscle and heart. His kindly attitude and willingness to accept others, as well as a good instinct, puts him in the company of Phoenix, whom he takes to as a father-figure. Marcel has been mute for years, for reasons unknown to the other characters, but he can read and write, unlike most of the Lower Class.

Delilah

The woman of the group that makes up Phoenix’s entourage, she is feisty and opinionated, and very hard to get along with. However, she is a master with the pistol, and nasty with a blade. Of the Upper Class, her presence outside of society is a mystery, for the Uppers don’t let one of their own go without good reason, or perhaps she ran away?

John

Born of a Upper mother, and a Lower father, John is Delilah’s lover and the group’s healer. His temperament is in direct opposition to Delilah’s, and yet they make it work in mysterious ways. He is adept with weapons, and can destroy almost as good as he can heal. He and Delilah work as swords-for-hire, a disreputable career, but one that works for them. He is also a lover of animals, and they always find their way to him when they are hurt, and he talks to them as though he understood their language. During the length of this story, he is accompanied by an eagle owl, Gryffes.

Leilani

Ward of the Earl, Leilani is the love interest for Phoenix. She was born to Upper Class parents who died mysteriously and tragically while they were away on business, leaving their three-year-old daughter alone in the world, without any other relatives. Thus the Earl inherited her when he took on her parents’ titles and estate. Obliged to care for her, as circumstances had not allowed for him to do away with her without suspicion falling on him and depriving him of his title, he keeps her locked away in the estate with a nursemaid and does not allow her any further company.

15 year old, Cheyenne Rhodes grew up knowing her mother as her only family; her father had left early in her life and her mother was a sole survivor in her family line. That was the way she liked it though and she never felt she was missing anything or anyone in her life. That was until one night changed it all.

After a horrific car accident Cheyenne loses the only family she's ever known and is sent to live with her paternal, widowed Grandma Carol. Strong-willed and independent Cheyenne doesn't quite see eye to eye with a close-minded and stubborn grandmother who seems not to want her around. Despite this, Grandma Carol does everything she can to keep Cheyenne completely under her watch twenty-four hours a day for reasons she can't understand.

Despite for the freedom of her own life Cheyenne fights to be emancipated. The way isn't easy though and as Cheyenne has to fight to prove that she can get a job, keep a roof over her head, still succeeding in school, and survive as the adult she wants to be, she finds her path to be full of obstacles.

Each person she meets could be a friend trying to help her or an enemy in her journey. But why would someone want to help her Grandma Carol and what does she have to gain from Cheyenne's presence? Cheyenne must find a way to prove her independence while figuring out who really wants to help her and who wants to keep her as she is... helpless.

Cheyenne Rhodes
The main protagonist of the story, Cheyenne is strong-willed and grew up in a house where her independence was encouraged. She can be a tad overbearing and doesn't always know how to be tactful. Confident in her abilities she has no doubt that she'll get what she wants, but doesn't expect the stress that comes along with trying to reach her goal. She has a bit of a temper and suffers from minor paranoia in her new town.

Madison Rhodes
Cheyenne's mother, who got married young. Her husband walked out on her during the final month of her pregnancy causing her to name her daughter with her own last name. After that she disowned the whole of his family as well, holding them partially responsible for his walking out. She dies in a car accident that might have more to it than what meets the eye.

Carol Adams
Cheyenne's grandma whom she is sent to live with after her mother dies. She has been a widow for the past twenty years after her husband died from a heart attack in his late forties. Many of her motives and her past are mysteries to Cheyenne. Guarded and bitter she seems to have something to gain from Cheyenne living with her.

Jacob Daves
A Junior guy who catches Cheyenne's eye on the first day of school, witty and dangerous he is everything appealing in a guy. At first he ignores Cheyenne entirely but comes to notice her. Guarded about his personal life and without many close friends, he is a big mystery and it only makes him all the more appealing.

Willa Rushton
Another new Sophomore to the school who is much quieter than Cheyenne but manages to make friends with her. She is very optimistic and tries to make the good of any situation but is unfortunately often taken advantage of by others. Her family is very loving and complete and she excels in most areas. Too bad she isn't as perfect as she looks.

Boston Greve
A bit less outgoing than Cheyenne, Boston is opinionated and a bit cynical. Although a year older, quickly befriends Cheyenne when she arrives. It doesn't seem like he has many other friends, or a want for them either. There seems to be an event in his past that he isn't too proud of but he never talks about it, so how is anyone supposed to know what it is?

What would you do if you found out everything you thought you knew was a lie, but it was told to you by someone you trusted. Would you ever trust again? This is the case with nineteen year old Jennifer Gonzales and twenty one year old Liam Jones. Jennifer was always told that people other than her stepfather and her best friend, Liam, were dangerous, scary, and liars which is why she only ever hung out with Liam. Liam never knew that she was told this, because if he did, he would have stopped it. Jennifer was not very smart when it came to the outside world. She loved to read though, and always imagined being swept off her feet by her own Prince Charming. She did not know that it would actually happen and that she would have to track down a cursed lightsaber to save the world and humanity. In doing so, she finds mystery, romance, and many other new things, such as the fact that she was a Princess in her land, Glorainia, and her mother hid her at birth because her life was in danger from her cousin. Her cousin, Albert Gonzales the Third, was next in line for the throne of Glorainia, as soon as Jennifer died. Naturally, he wanted to make sure that happened. He was going after her as a baby, which is why her mother hid her, not even her birth father knew where she was. Everyone thought she was dead, until now.

Characters:

Main Characters:

Jennifer Gonzales: A blonde haired, blue eyed 19 year old woman who is obsessed with every book she reads and thinks that it is not real, until she learns otherwise. Jennifer is told by Gary, her stepfather that people will always lie and cheat to get what they want. Best friends with Liam Jones and also has a secret crush on him, but does not tell him because she is afraid of his reaction, but unbeknownst to her, Liam is her Prince Charming. Jennifer is 5 feet 8 inches tall.
Liam Jones: A 21-year-old man who has brown hair and brown eyes. Best friends with Jennifer Gonzales, and unknown to everyone except her mother, a protector, set in place for her safety. Liam is 6 feet 4 inches tall and very muscular. He works out every morning with Jennifer, and he begins to develop a slight crush on her, but knowing he is there to protect her and personally believing she will never return his feelings, especially after he tells her the truth about her being a Princess and him being her protector.
Minor Characters:
Monica Gonzales: Jennifer’s mother and Queen of Glorainia. A brown haired, blue eyed petite 42 year old lady who abandoned Jennifer when she was a little girl. She loved Jennifer, but left for herself and Jennifer’s safety. She will never know the woman Jennifer becomes because she was killed in battle for the lightsaber shortly after she abandoned Jennifer. She also knew that Albert was evil and wanted her daughter dead, as she witnessed the last attempt before she was moved. She tried to tell people, but no one believed her, because while she was gone, Albert accused her of kidnapping and killing the Princess. This made Justin, Jennifer’s birth father feel terribly sad.
Justin Gonzales: Jennifer’s birth father and King of Glorainia. Justin is 5 feet 9 inches tall, with brown hair and blue eyes, who is very protective of his family, especially Jennifer, once he finds out that she is still alive. Until he finds out, however, he is in a severely depressed state. He thinks that his wife, Monica, betrayed him by kidnapping Jennifer and since she did not return with Jennifer, Justin, like everyone else, believes Jennifer to be dead.
Albert Raincoon: Jennifer’s evil cousin who is next in line for the throne, after Jennifer. He hates that a girl has more power over him and is next in line for the throne so he attempts to have her killed. He thinks he has succeeded in making everyone believe that his aunt and Jennifer’s mother, Monica had her killed, until Jennifer is discovered and brought back to the kingdom of Glorainia. Albert is 5 feet 10 inches tall with blonde hair and green eyes
Gary Johnson: Jennifer’s evil stepfather, who is not in cohorts with Albert, but it will seem like he is a lot. Gary is 6 feet 2 inches tall with black hair and brown eyes. He will be extremely mean to Jennifer at times, and tries to get rid of her a few times, but turns out to be a very nice person, in his own weird way.
