13 Year Old Dad

This story shocked me - not necessarily because it's a teenage pregnancy (as unfortunately, those are quite common) - but just look at that kid (and yeah, he's still a kid at 13). He looks about 7 or 8, and sitting next to his 'girlfriend' (15 years old) it's quite a shocking visual.

The baby was conceived when he was 12 years old, which just seems way too young.

Thoughts?

Teens and kids should wait until they are married for sex. I mean, I have nothign against it but really, why do you think you are going to do with a baby at such a young age? And he looks nothing like a teen...he looks 6 to me. Geeze...and his gf must have been desperate because she looks like shes 18 or something..

Wow, he's only a year or so younger than me. I'm right in the middle of the two when it comes to age. But I coudn't even imagine been tied down with a child at my age, I'd rather wait till 20-ish. And what happens to the kid when she gets to 10 and her fathers only 23? Surly social sevices will be brought in at some point.

I read that this morning, I was really shocked the the wee guys parents weren't even concerned about the fact that THEIR SON AT 13 WAS A DAD!


all they are worried about is how they are gona afford it... What about the wee guy and girls education? And how are they gona be able to give the poor child a good upbringing?

Wow, this blows my mind, the dad looks like he's no older than 9. Kids having kids, it's scary

When I hear or read "teenage parents", I think they're 16-17, and LOOK like small adults (atleast in some way xD), but this... is just... freaky :D

Dude, I'm 20 and I'm nowhere close to feeling ready to have a child ... and these guys are 13 and 15?!

that girl looks like she could be his mother... thats scary. that is wayyyy too young to start having kids. seriously.

My aunt's ex-boyfriend became a father at 13. He didn't find out about it until he was 26, though. The babysitter was the mother, so that would not have gone over well.

I read an article yesterday (lost the link, though) which said that tests have now been done, and this kid is not the father.

Oh, who is the father then? Is it some other kid?

And why do kids nowadays feel the need to pretend thy're adults from ever younger ages? It does nothing to change the fact that their minds are immature and they can therefore mess up quite a number of things, and they'll just end up regretting not having lived their childhood to the fullest. .. and that's not even strictly connected to teenage pregancies ..

My stepdad informed me that Alfie wasn't the father. I think that makes the story even more upsetting. What sort of world am I bringing a child into?

Quite frankly, I don't give a fo-shizzle! :D I mean, it was prrrrrrretty shocking to see that picture with the "happy family" together, and I remember reading in a magazine (Yes, I was reading one of those things :D), that there were "more people around at that time".

Makes me wonder about the girl's mind a lot.

It just kills me because, though I know most of this should be blamed on the children and parents involved, some of it can fall on the media. There's an over-sexualization of young girls. It's giving other young girls the idea that they're supposed to be the same way.

I cannot think of anyone who would plan to become a teenage mom or dad... I seriously cant xD Is there something wrong with me? xD

I thought I wanted to be a mom when I was that young. I knew I couldn't do it financially, but that didn't stop me from wanting it. Now that I'm going to be one...I don't know what the hell I was thinking.

I agree that its wrong to have a child at that age but only because the way the world is. I mean its their choice after all. We only view it as wrong because we believe that everyone should live by a set rule of life and be themselves in that rule. I know someone a year older than me who has chosen to have a child at this age she's about 16/17. A lot of people look down on her but thats her own choice and because she's not following these rules everyone thinks she's disgusting and ruining her life. But its her life and thats what she wants so why judge people on it because its not what we want?

If he didn't want to have the child then I feel sorry for him but they made the choice.

I don't think it's necessarily wrong for someone who's young to have a child but in his case, the tone of the article showed that he didn't know what he was getting into. I knew a girl who was four years ahead of me in high school. She had a baby at 15, and was fine. To go out and actively attempt to have a child in high school...I think that's very unwise.

Did I say it was wrong? No, I asked if there was something wrong with me to not wanting to have kids at this age. I'm not mature enough to take such a responsbility of another human being, since I can't even take care of myself! Sure, I'm a great babysitter, and my niece adores me, and my brother trusts me enough to leave his only child in my custody for a weekend or so - but that's a whole other story than having your own kid.

All I'm saying that some people might be just fine with getting kids out in the world at the age of 15, but it's not like that to everyone. In fact, I've never thought about getting kids, because I don't think I'll ever be a good mom, no matter how much life experiences I migth have.

Again, this is just me and my opinions - sue me, I don't care :D

As someone who does not believe in abortion at all, I would have to say well done to teens for deciding to have the child. Yes, they were irresponsible, but they have learned from it, and will hopefully know not to do it again until they are older.

This is focusing mainly on the dad here though. It is not all his fault. They are both at fault, because they decided to have unprotected sex at such a young age.

I hope they will dontinued with their educations...as that is the key to success...

I read that they did a DNA test and he isnt even the father!

I think it's sorta funny how a 13 year old could even be IMAGINED as the dad, since here in Finland you have to be 15 to legally have sex :D

And as far as I know, that child would've most likely been taken into custody almost at once. I think.

Our social service law/child rights are pretty strict xD We just don't have many underaged parents, teenage moms and such... in fact, Finnish women get pregnant with their first kid older than before - around 30, I think. We concentrate on our career more xD

Well, you get driving license at 16, we get it at 18, maybe even later, since you have to do the second part either on winter or at this "slippery" ice track xD

But yeah, my fifteen/sixteen year old cousin got knocked up, gave the baby away for adoption, all is well.
