| Introduction
HE is now up and running for 3 years and it was always the aim of its Administrators to provide a fun environment for everyone, to meet everyone’s needs and yet maintain some quality of excellence to it.
The Administrators were never very strict and allowed every member to let their creativity run free within the realms of RPG, however it is now felt that due to this lack of rules and guidance the quality standards of RPG have now fallen below the laws of common sense. RPG is in itself an art of writing, not chatting through posts and must therefore be treated with respect and dignity.
Also, there are a lot of members in HE who just RPG, it is therefore the job the Administrators to pay more attention to this section of the site if this is the only part of the forum they get to see and experience. HE has rules and standards of quality that should be kept everywhere.
The new rules are not up to discussion and any topic/post that fails to meet the rules criteria will be deleted without notification. To implement these new rules the RPG section will be reseted! All the threads were moved, not deleted so you didn't lose your posts but now it's time to start over, from the scratch!
That said the new rules will follow in the next post. Thank you all for your attention and for your time in reading this. The HE Administrators and Staff appreciate your understanding.
Raistlin The Wizard, On behalf of all HE Staff.

| The main concerns when writing down these new rules were the amount of badly written posts as well as the huge amount of topics created all the time.
RPG Rules
1 – The 5 lines rule is reinstated. This means that ANY post below 5 lines will be DELETED. As proven in the past members can cope with this 5 line rule fairly well. This allows the next person to post to have something to work with. If you post just one or two lines, even if it’s a dialogue this means you are mostly chatting through posts! RPG is all about your abilities as a writer to show others you really are ‘another’ person or character, the more detail you can put into it the more others will be convinced of your performance. There are RPG chat rooms if you are more prone to a quick answer and reply RPG style.
2 – Each member is now allowed to post only a maximum of 15 threads/topics per week! If you don’t post your 15 topics in a week they will not accumulate for the next week, it is only 15 a week, never more. Even 15 threads are actually a lot if you think about it. Why create so many threads? That will implicate you not paying so much attention to both your posts and threads as you’ll have to struggle to keep bouncing off and off a gazillion threads. You should learn to focus on a few threads and really develop your writing skills and the quality of your posts which will not only make the act of RPG more fulfilling but as well as provide a better reading to others. 5 good ones are always much better than 15 poor ones. Quality is always better than quantity, always!
3 – Grammar & Spelling. Please you are RPGing and not chatting! This means that proper attention must be paid when writing your posts! I do understand that not everyone’s grammar is perfect but we all know the basic rules of writing! Punctuation is needed! Initial capitals are mandatory! If you fail to get an expression down correctly or even the correct verbal form it’s not important but some basic rules are just common sense after all if you keep writing badly constantly it’s more likely you’ll start to write like that in real life and for important papers for school and work, so it’s better if you keep your writing skills sharp! RPG can help you with it! The same way you wouldn’t write a fic or a paper with no punctuation whatsoever the same principles apply to RPG! Once more I focus that RPG is not chatting! Post and topic titles all in caps WILL BE DELETED as well as the ones who fail to have initial caps! Posts with no punctuation will so be deleted!
<>
Three simple rules that make all the difference! The violation of these rules will result in the deletion of the post and topic that is infracting the rules. Repeated violation of these rules will result in the issue of a warning in the member’s warning bar and ultimately the permanent ban of that member from the RPG section of HE.

| RPG Great Hall Guidelines
1. Only play and react your character. For example, if you send a spell at someone else's character you don't have the power to make them get hit. Let them react to the spell you sent at them in a way that they think their Character would react.
2. Learn about the other Characters you are RPing with. The more you know about them, the better your RPing experience will be.
3. Be detailed in posts. For example, If you got hit with a curse describe how it affected you physically, and mentally.
4. when a person thinks something in a post that doesn't mean that you know that information they are thinking about, unless if you are using Legilimency.
5. Show emotion. RPing can become boring in a hurry if there is no emotion in it. For example, if you are a death eater and are going to try and kill someone, your character might feel hatred, or anger. If you describe that anger in your post it will show more about the character.
6. Be selfless. Allow other people to talk and control the scene every now and then you might just learn something about the other character.
7. Don't be too strange. Since this is a magical based RP follow the Harry Potter books at least a little bit. If you do something completely different your character might be rejected.
8. Try to write more than one sentence per post. Most RPers prefer to write in paragraphs.

| RPG Character Sheet
If you spend a lot of time in the Great Hall RPG forum, make sure you have activated your character sheet.
Simply go to your profile and you will see a tab which says 'RPG Forum : Great Hall'
Once there you can create your character name, age and race (all of which will then be shown under your avatar in every post) as well as a small avatar picture of your character and description (which can be viewed only in your profile) and also a rpg bar which will go up depending upon you role play experience within the great hall.
All characters and descriptions must be kept to the rules and guidelines of the Hogwarts Experience. Any member not abiding by these rules will have their character sheet suspended.
If you have any questions or further suggestions for the character sheet or role play categories, please post them in the new questions and suggestions thread here in the great hall.
Post your character name in the Character Masterlist Thread so we can keep a record of who is who.
Please note that the Hogwarts Experience is not an rpg site. RPG is simply for use within the Great Hall.

| Aggressive Behaviour
Although an RPG forum we have had numerous reports of agressive behaviour from a couple of members. Please note that this is not acceptable on HE and could cause your account and ip address to be banned.
We understand that there are duels which could occur in the Great Hall though if you are unsure about conducting yourself in the proper manner then please check both the rules and regulations of the forum as well as the duelling forum for ideas on how these work.
Thank you | |

| Old and Inactive threads
I have noticed around the Great Hall that there are many old threads that haven't been posted in for months. Over time the Great Hall is starting to become cluttered with these inactive threads. Starting in two weeks of 17 November 2010 any threads whose last post is older than six months will be closed! If you want these threads to remain open please just make another post. However after 1 December 2010 I will go through and remove these old and inactive threads. Thank you
