| If you've never used mod podge before, you're missing out! It's the bomb, no lie, I love it. And that is why I'm willing to award 100 points to anyone who makes something with mod podge, takes before and after pictures, and shares what you did to make it!
To mod podge, you first find something to decorate, like a plain glass jam jar, a wooden frame, whatever you like. Next, you find something cool to cover it with - Have some newspaper or magazines? A watercolor that didn't turn out so hot? Tear it up! - and use a brush (cheapie watercolor brushes work fine) to paint mod podge onto the surface and the covering. You don't have to go out and buy some to do this class, although it's quite cheap if you're interested; you can just dilute some Elmer's glue with water and you're set to go!
Here are some examples of things I've made with mod podge:
A gift box, my camp clipboard, a glass jar, and a wooden frame.
Have fun! Be creative!
I can't wait to see what you guys make!

| I misunderstood and so didn't take a before picture. I used to make Mod Podge creations all the time. I've gotten away from it over the past couple years, though, because I couldn't come up with useful items to make. I still have a lot of my supplies, though, so I finally decorated the wooden "P" I bought to put up in my room. I usually use stickers because I've found a lot of good ones over the years. This was a very simple project. I wish the picture showed it better, because the stickers are so cute. I first came up with a plan of what I wanted it to look like. I really thought the pink and green argyle sticker would go wonderfully with brown. If I recall, I bought the pink flowers specifically to go with the argyle. I then painted the letter with a 2" sponge brush. I like working with those, because I think it has a cleaner finish. I did three coats to give it that nice rich look. After it had dried, I added the argyle strip. I had a hard time deciding how I wanted it to go on. I'd considered cutting it so that I could keep it on the edges. I decided, though, that it would look tidier if it was in one straight line. I was going for a clean, preppy look, so I thought tidy was more suitable. The flower stickers were difficult, because I didn't really have a way to see how I should place them before sticking them on. I'm mostly happy, though, with the final result. Lastly, I brushed the coat of Mod Podge. My favorite thing about Mod Podge is the gleam it gives paint. I would have loved to put small-ish green circles here and there amongst the flowers, but I don't have a steady enough hand to paint them. | |

| Before
After This is an old memory box that I found a few weeks ago when I was finally cleaning my room. I really really really dislike the color orange, so when I saw this lesson my mind automatically flashed to it. First I started off by removing the metal plating in the middle, so that it wouldn't make the finished project look all bumpy. To do this, I simply pushed an exacto knife underneath the plating and wiggled it off. Next I got out a whole bunch of old magazines and tried to get a theme or at least an idea of what to do. I came across these really cool rings that were in that shape of animals, so I decided to go with jewelry and animals. I started cutting out animal prints and jewelry that I thought was pretty and then simply pasted it down to the memory box cover I don't think it turned out as great as I had originally hoped, but I think it's still pretty nifty. *Sorry the after picture is kinda blurry!*

| Before: After: My parents needed a towel dispenser for their old fashioned soda fountain. They had a new plain white one, so I decided to cover it in old Coca Cola advertisements. The soda fountain is mostly turn of the century victorian because that is when the building was built, so I looked on the internet and tried to find mostly late 1800 and early 1900 ads. There weren't enough to cover it, so I decided I would use ads up to about the 1950s. I covered the three sides in the pictures, even though one of the sides will always be facing the wall, and after I was done, I used a knife to cut the seams I had pasted over so that it could still be opened to put more towels in it. | |
