Salazar Slytherin, the Pure

One founder that needs no introduction is Salazar Slytherin. He is the last and foremost, and perhaps the most famous founder of Hogwarts School of witchcraft and Wizardry. His name Slytherin seems to sound such like the word slithering, which is appropriate for their symbol. The symbol for the Slytherin house is a silver snake on a green background. He is said to be born and raised in the fens, which clearly means the east of England, where there are fens.

Salazar Slytherin was the pickiest out of the four founders, regarding who should be accepted into his house. He claimed to choose only students with ambition and were power hungry. Yet his unsaid qualification is that each member in his house must either be a pureblood or a half. No Muggleborn were ever chosen to join the Slytherin house. Dumbledore added that another quality that Slytherin students seem to have is the certain disregard for rules. Here the ability to be a Parseltongue is greatly valued. This is the ability to speak to snakes, which was a trait that Salazar Slytherin himself owned. Yet Salazar Slytherin even went as far as to state that only pureblood students should be accepted into the Hogwarts School. The other three founders disagreed with him, causing him to leave the school in anger. Yet before he left, it was rumored that he built a Chamber of Secrets that will only open once his true Heir arrives to Hogwarts. Then the terrifying creature inside will rid the school of all the Muggleborns and Squibs. It was recorded in history that the Chamber has been opened twice. The second time, having the creature defeated by Harry Potter.

The few heirlooms that Salazar Slytherin left behind is a large black ring as well as a large, heavy locket with the letter S engraved on it. The most famous student to come from the Slytherin house is Voldemort, the Dark Lord.
