| So I was just wondering today whether Diagon Alley had always been invisable/hidden to Muggle's or if they used to have access it to regardless of the fact most of the things they would find in there would probably be useless to them.... Since the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy didn't go into effect officially until 1692 would they have only put magical protection over it when that went into place or do you think ever since Diagon Alley was built in London they had kept Muggle's from accessing it? Anyways, I was just thinking about this and wondered what you guys think. | |

| Well if you think about it you need to get through the brick wall and you have to know the right combination of bricks to hit to open teh archway into Diagon Alley. So because of this I doubt many Muggles would know so making it invisable to Muggles or luring them away would be useless since they don't even know how to enter. That's my thoughts on it | |

| It could also be an elitest thing: It's a huge snub that Muggles couldn't get in, because they don't have a wand or Floo. In other words no magic, no entry. Segregation at its finest. | |

| I've no idea when it was actually built but we can't even know for sure that the brick wall was there whenever it first was...it could've been built after they went into hiding....
I think they probably never could get in though because they really would have nothing useful there to buy....

| Well I have found that the oldest shop in there was Ollivanders and it was built in 382 B.C. So I would assume that Diagon Alley has kinda been there since around there. | |

| Right? But that would be way before London even existed...I'm wondering if they mean the business in general? Like Ollivander's family had been making wands since then...unless Diagon Alley is really that old. O.o
But then all the architecture and stuff would've been really advanced. Haha

I tend to disagree that Wizard architecture was advanced, as they seem to be stuck in some weird timewarp where they use quills, have really old cameras, and only have the Wireless radio as their most advanced technology, so I doubt that they would have had modernish shops when they have all these other things weird. Besides, towns spring up where there were massive markets back in the Middle Ages, so it's more likely that Ollivander didn't build that shop until later, or adapted it from something that existed previously, but was very different.

| Well I think they're stuck in some time warp because there's a good many wizards who don't want to associate with muggles and unless they talk to muggles they won't be able to advance their stuff as quickly as the muggles are. After all they really don't need to. They have magic to do things that muggles uses machines to do. | |

| I agree with Melly on the fact that Diagon Alley probably wasn't there until at least Medieval Times but I agree with stephy that the wizards don't really need to advance | |

| Lol how agreeable of you :D Mm they don't need to advance, I quite agree. Advances in technology happened 'cause muggles don't have magic, whereas Wizards do so it'd be redundant for Wizards to adopt a lot of Muggle things. I can't imagine a digital wizard camera | |

| lol It would be so neat to give a camera like that to a wizard. It would be like the time mom got her new digital camera. XD Oh my it took days to explain to her how to turn it on and how to take a picture. We never moved on to the more advanced stuff XD | |
