before the age of 11

where do wizards go before they reach the age of 11. Do they go to muggles schools or wizards schools? i havent heard or read of wizard schools that exist before the age of 11, but surely wizards who know they are wizards wouldnt go to muggle schools would they?

I've always assumed younger wizarding children were home-schooled. At least, I can see this happening at the Weasley's - you can just imagine Molly sitting them all down in the kitchen to teach maths!

I think it was mostly home schooling because... well, the muggle born have no idea they are wizard, so they probably went to a normal school, and the pureblood wouldn't have anything to do with the muggle, would they? Well the crazy one anyway.

Besides, when you learn something new (and for young wizard, magic must be new at some point of their life) you have to practice before you're good, and you can't always control your powers. I don't think they would risk exposure by sending child into normal schools where they could use their magic, not knowing they shouldn't, or not being able to control it.

yes, I suppose that would be the best option, though it is weird that jk never mentioned it anywhere, usually she covers background of her world and characters extensivly.

i think jk said on her website somewhere that wizard children either went to local primary schools or were homeschooled.

Probably the muggle borns were sent to normal muggle primary schools and the wizard born children were homeschooled. It woould have been quite an experience to have a wizard in my school - would have stopped the boredom lol

I would agree that they were homeschooled. You know, I can just imagine poor Ron and trying to keep him awake lol!! And yes Fred and George being their usually charming selves.

I think homeschooling is the best because whats to stop the other wizard kids to bl;urting out their magic with the muggles? As we all know kids say the darnest things!!

but another thing I wonder...once you reach 11 you start to go to Hogwarts and learn Potions, DADA, transfiguration and etc...but what about math, english or normal subjects? if they dont learn that too then it's a wonder why all the wizards arent illiterate...

What about private schools for under 11? I think like a kindergarten for witches and wizards might have been ideal. Pre-wizarding schools or somethin?

I think there would be a mention of it then wouldn't it? The wizards would comare where did they go to school before Hogwarts...but then it could be a possibilty...I mean it could have just been something not mentioned..

I WAS HOMESCHOOLED!!! of course i'm not a witch..but who cares about that detail? we can pretend i was!!! *grins*

I think JKR answered this. Up until age 11 they are either homeschooled (as the Weasleys were) or they go to a normal muggle grammar school.

i think personaly that they we're really home schooled. that ya they were taught about muggles and maybe a little bit about them, and how to blend into the muggle world. But besides that i don't think they did any schooling at all.

I think that the muggle borns went to regular schools. Their families probably didn't know that their kids were witches/wizards and probably didn't even know wizards exsisted.

Wizard kids born to wizarding families I am sure would have been home schooled. There would be no point sending them to a muggle school.

I think on Mugglenet there is an interveiw or somehting where Jo says that they get homeschooled if they come from wizarding families

magical born technically can go to muggle schools but it would proabbly be a mistake

I say that they were home schooled that would make the most sense or maybe theres pre magic schools for them to attend

if the muggle borns go to normal school and the pure bloods home schooled what about the half-bloods
if they had one muggle parent and one magical parent i think they would send there child/ren to a muggle school but if like harrys parents had survived they would have proberly home schooled him

I think you could let them go to school butobviously I don't think parents would want them to because of the prejudices they have against muggles. At home they could teach them about more magical subjects and learn things that will gve them a heads up at Hogwarts.

I always thought that, if they were pure or half blood, that they were homeschooled. Since, if they knew they had maic, they would try to hide it as best they could. However, I think that muggleborns (and muggle raised) children attended regular muggle schools till they were old nough to go to hogwarts. No one would have known that they had magic (or that magic even existed)

Yeah. I agree. I think it would be risky to send kids who know there magical to muggle school because they could tell someone and ruin the secret.

The pure blood families home school them, I remember JK Rowling answering that in an interview. However, with half bloods one (or both) parent might be a muggleborn so they might want to send their kids to school.

I agree with Hailey Hoofer. the purebloods know what's going to happen if the kid does accidental magic so they homeschool them. on the other hand, if the parents are half blood or muggles, they might not know anything about their kid's magic and just send them to school.

I do imagine molly weasley homeschooling her kids though XD
