| Welcome to the maze, Samantha!
You find yourself at the beginning of a huge maze composed of gigantic green hedges. Using your knowledge of spells, especially Charms, you must find a way out of this maze. Numerous obstacles will be presented to you and they need to be passed in order for you to move on through the maze. Tall leafy walls rise up on both sides of you. The sun shines brightly and there's nothing in sight... at the moment. Step into the maze and begin this adventure. Remember to role-play your actions, show your knowledge of spells and charms, and to be creative. Your first obstacle will follow your first post. There will be ten total challenges for you to complete before you're done.
Good luck! | |

| Striding forward towards the giant green maze, Samantha fondly remembers going through similar mazes as a child. "But those mazes weren't trying to eat me for breakfast," she thinks with a grin. Pausing at the looming entrance gate, she looks up at the sky and basks in the sun for a minute. Sunlight has always energized her, and she needs all of the extra energy she can get.
"I'm so excited, I wonder what my first challenge will be!" she thinks, as she looks at the gate and mutters "Alohomora." As the gate opens up before her, she steps inside and allows it to close back up again.
"Here we go" she thinks, as, surveying the various routes ahead, she walks confidently forward straight down the middle road. "Go, go, Gryffindor, give me courage" she mutters, and as she walks down the foreboding pathway, the hedges close up behind her.

| Samantha is walking along her chosen path when she suddenly feels her feet getting wet. She looks down and sees that before her the ground is getting wetter and wetter - before she can do anything, the path has turned into an enormous whirlpool - and she's being sucked in! | |

| "I wonder what on earth that rushing sound could be," Samantha thinks as she slows down to listen. "As she slows, she hears an even fainter splashing sound and looks down at her feet. "Why, the ground is wet!" she exclaims, as she stops walking completely. "Just in case, I had better do something to stay dry." "Impervious!" she exclaims, pointing her wand at her clothes and shoes. "That's better, now, what could this be?"
As she slowly walks forward, the rushing sound becomes louder, and she starts to feel something pulling on her legs. All of a sudden, she sees what it is. "It's a giant whirlpool!" she yells to herself.
As the whirlpool starts to pull her around the outer edges, she struggles to think of a charm. "I know, I will try the drought charm!" Sadly, the drought charm seems to have no effect. "Too much water I guess," she mutters.
As the whirlpool brings her closer to the hedges of the maze, she positions herself in the water so that her back is facing the wall and cries " Repello aqua!" As the water in front of her starts to push away she sighs and thinks to herself "this probably would have been more effective if I had known the latin name for whirlpool, but it will have to do!"
Keeping her back to the edge of the maze, she continues to cast the repelling charm and slowly makes her way across the outer edges of the whirlpool.
Reaching the other side, she positions herself just out of reach of the water, and tries to catch her breath, panting with relief. "One challenge down, I hope whatever comes next is at least drier that this one," she sighs as she catches her breath and moves forward.
Coming to another fork in the path, she chooses the one on the left, and walks deeper into the maze.

| Whew! That was close! You've passed your first challenge! Well done!
As Samantha succeeded in passing the whirlpool, the water on the other hand tend not to leave her as she wants it to. As the Gryffindor walked deep into the maze, the earth suddenly crumble down as if being eaten by itself, rocks fell slowly thousands of feet below her just as she was about to reach another fork. Later, after the crumbling and falling of the path, an earthquake followed which introduced the entrance of a strong current. Water erupted in front of Sam making a beautiful enormous fountain, but for a minute turned to be a nightmare as it filled the former space between Sam and the other fork. As easy as it seemed to be to go on, wandering the waters were shrakes, a magically-created species of fish covered in spines.

| Samantha walked carefully along the path, happy to leave the whirlpool behind. It seemed to be getting darker the deeper into the maze she went, but there was still enough light that she decided not to light her wand just yet. Besides, she was thinking that everything seemed a little too quiet, and if there were any creatures ahead, she didn’t want to alert them to her presence.
Noticing that her shoes still seemed to be squelching in some water on the ground, Samantha paused to look, first at her feet, and then down the way she came.
“That’s odd,” she thought, “I wonder why the ground is still wet?”
Suddenly, Sam heard a rumbling sound, and looking up in shock, saw the ground before her start to crumble and fall. It was like someone pulled a giant plug and the ground was being sucked into a huge chasm. Looking across the expanse, carefully backing away so as not to get sucked into the void, Sam could see the next fork in the maze.
“Shoot! So close!” She yelled, as she turned tail and ran back the way she had come.
Having gotten only about halfway back down the pathway, all of a sudden the rumbling sound got louder, and Sam could feel the earth start to shake so hard, it knocked her into the hedges lining the path as she ran. She heard a rushing sound, and the ground in front of her exploded open as a giant fountain of water formed and blocked her path. She would have though that the fountain was rather pretty, with all of the stone mermaids and fairies and what not, had it not been blocking her only path away from the chasm behind her that was slowly, but steadily, eating up the pathway and moving towards her.
“Well, it is just water again, I guess. I can probably just walk through it,” she muttered to herself as she tried to look past the fountain to the path beyond. Peering more closely, she noticed something swimming around. It appeared to be some sort of fish, but they looked like they were covered in huge spines.
“What on earth are those?” Sam wondered.
Trying to decide if she could dart through the fountain without getting impaled on one of the spines, she determined that there were just too many fish. She vaguely remembered reading about some sort of spiny fish in her text book, but remembered that it only said they liked to rip apart fishing nets. It didn’t actually give any suggestions for getting away from them. It looked like there were too many to try banishing them.
Suddenly she remembered a spell that she had been practicing with Katie recently. It was a water freezing spell that should enable her to walk across the surface of the fountain without having to worry about the fish. Summoning up all of her concentration she calmly stepped up to the fountain’s edge and, pointing her wand at the water, firmly said “Glacius!”
The steady stream of icy cold air coming out of her wand began to freeze the water in front of her. Carefully stepping on the frozen patch, Sam pointed her wand a bit ahead, beginning to make a path over the water. The fish that weren't caught in the freezing spell started swimming around angrily on either side of the frozen path as she carefully and slowly made her way across the fountain.
Finally reaching the other side, Sam jumped off of the fountain and started running, not bothering to look back and see how close the chasm was. As she ran, she heard the fountain being swallowed up into the big sinkhole. Passing an opening in the hedges, she glanced over and saw the whirlpool she had already gotten away from. Running forward, thinking “I should have gone this way in the first place, I guess,” Sam saw another fork just ahead. Slowing to a jog, so as to not lose her breath, she trotted forward toward the intersection and taking out her wand, she put it flat on her palm and muttered “Point me.” She had forgotten to use the spell the last time, and wasn't about to make that mistake again. She knew the end of the maze was north, and looking down to see that her wand pointed to the right fork, she headed in that direction. As she turned the corner, she started walking more slowly again, preparing herself for whatever was going to happen next.

| Nice! You've passed your second challenge!
The humongous grandeur of the fountain that came from the maze was seen by the whole castle, no pair of eyeballs missed its magnificent structure. Not even the smallest pairs of Cornish Pixies! The small mischievous creatures flew straight to the maze, but with the fountain gone and frozen the pixies went straight to the next moving object they see, Samantha. The Gryffindor was already on the other end of the fork, but nothing escapes the keen small eyes of these blue-skinned creatures.
