| Editor’s Babble by amortentia773 As I sit here attempting to write about just how great HE is I find there’s really nothing I can say. While I’ve only been a member here for almost two years, I feel like I’ve been a member forever. The member’s on this site are the friendliest and most imaginative people I’ve ever met, and we truly are just one big family here.
I’m so thankful to be apart of HE and everything there is to offer, and I’m so glad to see that HE continues to grow older and refuses to die out. So as another birthday passes, I want to say thank you to everyone who helps the site run smoothly and here’s to another amazing year on HE filled with magic, competition and friendship.
Hope you all enjoy this Birthday Edition of the Pensieve!
by amberg93 Year 6 was a great year for HE and had many exciting moments in it. However, I'm going to focus on the people who really went above and beyond their call of duty and helped their houses as much as they could. I'm talking about, of course the top house point earners of the last term. We'll be looking at who had the honors and how they achieved the points in this article.
First, we'll start with Ravenclaw house. Although the year was not their best, they still did have members who earned points for their house and did a good job. The top earner in the house was none other than the Head of House, Sashi, who earned 6,973 points by participating in challenges, the Graphics Tournament (finishing 9th) and the Games Tournament (finishing 6th). Ribgy Dumbledore, Second Head of House, was the next top earner with 6,694 points by partaking in challenges, classes and the Games Tournament (finishing 7th). Hermione.Granger earned her house 4,992 points by her participation in BIMs (finishing 6th), the Graphics Tournament (finishing 7th) and classes. 2,139 of the Ravenclaw points were contributed by stephy, who participated in BIMs (finishing 10th), the Games Tournament (finishing 10th) and classes. Finally, rounding out the top five Elana earned 1,487 points by not being around at all. Seriously, she hasn't been around in ages but won points from things that were just now being graded. Overall, the Ravenclaw house earned 24,941 points in total.
Next, we'll move onto the Slytherin house. As in tradition, Headmaster Raistlin the Wizard was leading his Slytherins with the most points earned in the house. He earned himself 55,577 points from involvement in pretty much every single tournament there was, winning the Games Tournament, BIMs, and the Graphics Tournament and placing 3rd in the Drabbles Tournament. Not to mention being first in the How Well Do You Know v2 event. His Second Head of House, violetriddle, earned her 16,290 points from being a submitting member of the Pensieve team, placing 5th in BIMs , placing 8th in the Games Tournament, placing 8th in the Graphics Tournament and from doing classes and challenges. Gloria Malfoy brought her house 2,091 points by doing classes and challenges. Amadan Dubh earned 1,232 points from classes participation in the Graphics Tournament (placing 11th), and participation in the Games Torunament (placing 11th). Lastly, Aurora Black earned herself 946 points by placing 5th in the Drabbles Tournament and by doing classes. These efforts and the efforts of others brought Slytherin in a cool 77,513 points.
Hufflepuff did a spectacular job this year and it's no secret that a great deal of that falls on top house point earner of the year, amortentia773. She earned herself a whopping 121,790 points by being editor of the Pensieve, completing five badges, breaking almost every record in the hall of records, completing 25 challenges, doing 97 classes, finishing 14 exams, writing 5 essays, winning the Drabbles Tournament, placing 2nd in BIMs, placing 3rd in the Games Tournament, placing 3rd in the How Well Do You Know v2 event and placing 8th in the Graphics tournament. Her Second Head of House, MarieC, brought in 20,035 points by completing 7 badges, participating in challenges, completing classes, being a member of the Pensieve team, finishing 3rd in the Graphics Tournament and finishing 4th in BIMs. The third highest point earner in Hufflepuff, imapureblood, won points by doing homework, completing 7 badges, participating in challenges, finishing 9th in the Games Tournament, and finishing 11th in BIMs. Hermy added 3,377 points to the Hufflepuffs by doing homework and participating in challenges. Finally ChickaBonBon gave the Hufflies 480 points by doing homework. Overall, the Hufflies pulled in an impressive 151,595 house points.
Finally, the winners of this year's house cup, the Gryffindors were led by five top earners. The top earner of the house was Samantha Granger, Co-Second Head of House, who brought in 63,728 points by completing homework, doing challenges, finishing three exams, being an extremely active Pensieve member, finishing 2nd in the How Well Do You Know v2 event, finishing 4th in the Drabbles Tournament, finishing 4th in the Games Tournament, taking 5th place in the Graphics tournament, and taking 6th place in BIMS. The Gryffindor Head of House was the only one not to finish first within her house, instead finishing second with 50,419 points earned by doing homework, completing challenges, completing five badges, breaking the Graphics-a-holic record, being a member of the Pensieve team, completing seven exams, placing 2nd in the Graphics Tournament, placing 2nd in the Games Tournament, placing 2nd in the Drabbles tournament and by placing 3rd in the BIMs tournament. Other Co-Second Head of House, FaerieOfDoom brought in 13,274 points by doing challenges, finishing 4th in the Graphics Tournament, finishing 5th in BIMS, finishing 5th in the Games Tournament, and finishing 6th in the Drabbles Tournament. Caroru was the 4th biggest earner, bringing in 9,510 points by doing homework and challenges, voting in tournaments, and placing 4th in the How Well Do You Know v2 event. Finally, Clafin rounds out the Gryffindor bunch with 6,761 points achieved through homework, challenges, completing 7 badges, and by placing 7th in BIMS. Overall, the Gryffies brought in the winning 156,539 points.
So there you have it, how the most dedicated members to their houses helped them out and how they did it. I'm sure that through the coming year we'll see many other hard working members of HE get their chance to shine, but for now everyone should thank the people who put in the work to end up in the top 5 earners of their house.
by Rastlin The Wizard Something Wicca this way comes! It's year seven folks! One of the most magical numbers there is! In the Harry Potter world many would be now graduating from Hogwarts! Fortunately in HE you need not to leave! Here the magic stays forever!
Let us take some time to recap some of the things that happened in year 6! What a year it was! Our population may be dwindling but the excitement and work remain hardcore as ever!
First, I'll get this over with quickly - Gryffindor won again, for the third time! Big deal, them cheaters will get what they're asking for this term! ANYWAYS, moving on!
Kudos for the HeadMaster winning every tournament but one! This past year there was even an Event, run by Amber and it was fun, fun, fun. However, I must say that Samantha Granger found a way to cheat, I'm sure.
Special mention to amortentia773, the hufflepuff who went on a crazy points spree only to fall short of points and landing flat on her face. Our prayers are with her, we're sure her sanity will never be the same again. She almost snatched all of HE's records but jealous Amber made sure she kept at least one for herself. I foresee blood in this term!
And talking about this term. All houses are hyped! There are new people running around and even some oldies taking a peek! As HeadMaster I'll try to run one Big Event and get someone of the staff to run an Event too! Tournaments will run wild and free as always, and who knows? We might see Duels coming back!
Fun, surprises, excitment, joy! Be sure to not miss out on all of it! I hope to see you all, all year long!
Raistlin The Wizard, HeadMaster.
What's Happening At the Pensiveby Samantha Granger As you know, you are reading a very special anniversary edition of the Pensive. Your diligent staff worked extremely hard to make sure this edition came out, doing everything from pulling all-nighters, to ignoring their homework, to ditching out of work, to getting grounded for spending too much time on their computer, to locking themselves in their room without bathroom breaks until their articles were done, to teaching their dogs and cats how to type so that they could actually take a bathroom break when all the coffee and soda they drank to stay awake finally caught up with them, to taking special foreign language classes so that they could translate what their dogs and cats typed into English so that you wouldn’t be completely confused by all the woofs and meows in their articles, to… well… you get the idea.
Just to give you a little taste of just how much your staff went through to put this issue together, I will now give you a little excerpt of a typical day in your Pensive staff’s lives (this, in fact, happened last Thursday):
The office fell completely silent as Samantha and Amber walked in, prompting the two of them to stop and glare around the room.
“What?!” growled Amber, as the room suddenly filled with the sound of explosive laughter.
All Marie could do was point, as she fell out of her chair clutching her stomach.
Amber and Samantha looked at each other and sighed. They knew they looked ridiculous, because anyone wearing shorts, snow boots, a tank top, a big scarf, and a woolen hat was bound to get laughed at.
“We think Peeves has been playing with the weather controls in Gryffindor tower lately,” explained Samantha. “It will be blazing hot one minute, and then start snowing. We never know what to wear anymore.”
“He was messing with Hufflepuff’s last week,” giggled Katie, “until Marie figured out how to project an image of the Bloody Baron in front of the controls.”
“Its been nice and warm in Slytherin,” said Vi, “I don’t think Peeves is stupid enough to try anything with us. He threw an ink well at me last week and I jinxed him so that every time he tried to talk, pink flowery scented bubbles came out of his mouth. He hasn’t come near me since.”
“Well, then I’m guessing Ravenclaw will be next,” sighed Stephy, “I’ll have to talk some strategy over with Sashi later.”
As Amber and Samantha made their way over to their desks, Amber couldn’t help giving Marie a little kick, as she was still giggling uncontrollably on the floor.
The End.
What, you may ask me, was the point of that random little story? Well, I will tell you… um… yep.
Oh, I know! The point, my dear readers, is to show you just how devoted your staff is to getting you the latest issue of the Pensive. They will even go so far as to embarrass themselves by wearing horribly embarrassing outfits outside of their house common rooms, just so they can get to the Pensive office and work.
That, my friends, is dedication.
We hope you enjoy this special anniversary issue. And as you enjoy it, make sure you think about your devoted staff members, and feel free to show them your appreciativeness with cookies… or brownies… or candy… really, just anything sweet, we aren’t picky.
Music Reviewsby violetriddle Stronger(What doesn't kill you)-Kelly Clarkson Usually I love to listen to Kelly, but I find this song weaker than her other hits. Its like all the singers have gotten together and decided to make "let's sing feel better about yourself while I hate myself" songs. It's become a trend that shouldn't have started to being with.
2/10 Safe and Sound-Taylor Swift
I'll be the first to admit I really dislike Taylor. Ever since her first song I have never liked her. This song ,however, is different. I love her voice in it and the song seems to have more meaning than her other stuff. If she made more songs like that, I may end up listening to her more. 9/10
by amberg93 The last couple of issues we've talked about fandom competitions and their nature in which no one wins when trying to compare to series to one another. However, I think that it's just as important that we bring up a serious issue that happens within people of the same fandom. Ship wars. We've all seen them, all possibly even picked sides in them, but there is a point where it's just impossible to get anywhere and ship wars become nothing but pain.
While the HP fandom has these wars, they have never been all that bothersome. People usually are respectful enough to other HP fans despite their differences in opinion, although there are some exceptions and some nasty words that have been thrown around *cough*especiallytowardnoncanonshippers*cough* Still, usually if you just avoid the topic of ships with someone who doesn't have the same ship as you, you'll be fine.
However, with the growing popularity of Tumblr there has been a new problem arising called Hate Tagging. Hate Tagging is often used to fuel ship wars. For example, the Gossip Girl fandom is terrible about this. Let's say you like the characters Chuck and Blair together and so you look through the tag 'Chuck and Blair' on Tumblr to find some cute pictures of them kissing or snuggling and instead what do you find but a Dan and Blair fan calling you stupid, supportive of a bad relationship, or almost worse pictures of Dan and Blair kissing. The other side does it too though, posts pictures of Chuck and Blair kissing and tags it with Dan's name or Dan and Blair. All this does is create anger between both sides and makes everyone who just wants to mind their business and keep to themselves annoyed.
If you ever think about Hate Tagging, please keep in mind that what you're doing is not fun, it's not cool and it will make people upset. Just because you hate a couple together, doesn't mean that you should bash the people who ship it and if you must bash the couple, be respectful and post your rant about the couple only under the ship name that you support instead. Because even posting it under the main show, book, or movie name can cause issues. I understand that we're all going to have differences of opinion, but please respect your fellow fans. It doesn't matter if you don't agree with which characters belong together, you both are watching/reading the same show/movie/book. The purpose of being a part of a fandom is to have a good time, not to hurt others and the creators of the show/movie/book wouldn't want their fans insulting each other and pointing fingers.
by Rastlin The Wizard Hello my little ravenous readers! I bet you must all be dying to know what juice I have for you this week. Oh, you wouldn't dream of the putrid details I got from the people that roam the Hogwarts Experience.
First my dear readers, be shocked as I was when I learned, there's same gender relationships in that dreadful place! And they don't even hide it, amberg93 and MarieC are seeing snogging all over the place even though sources tell me Amber cheats on Marie with a portrait of Morgana!
Headmaster, Raistlin The Loony, that should lead by example is actually nothing but an excentric to levels of Albus Dumbledore and can be seen every night roaming the castle on woman Muggle clothes and trying to transfigure statues to be his lovers!
Elusive members, FaerieOfDoom, stephy, Sashi, have formed a cult of adoration in order of the DarkLord! Another source tells me they're planning human sacrifices soon and are asking for volunteers! The madness of it!
Merlin's beard, there's so much I could write a whole bookshelf of books on the mad things these people do but I'll end with the most filthy, disgusting thing, which concerns amortentia773 and Samantha Granger. The two former BFFs were seen hiring werewolves to kill each other off. They MINGLE WITH HALF-BREEDS!
That's is readers, please, for your sanity, do not enter that realm of profanity!
Your most humble journalist, Rita Skeeter. This article was written with the help of Quick-Quote Quills
Did Harry Potter Get Snubbed at the Oscars?by amortentia773 As the Harry Potter films came to their grand conclusion this past year, many were hoping that the series would finally gain the proper recognition from the Academy Awards for being such a captivating experience for millions of fans around the world. While I myself did not have high expectations for the films winning many of the awards, as it’s not only a fantasy series, which rarely win the awards, but is also often outmatched by other movies in the year in areas such as special effects, sound editing and costumes. However, this year, I could not help but feel snubbed at the complete lack of recognition the movie was given. The one category I was sure Harry Potter had a chance in, Makeup, they lost to the Iron Lady. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure the makeup for the Iron Lady was spectacular, but considering that in the Harry Potter films, the makeup crew was responsible for transforming actors into goblins and other creatures, fake blood and scratches, and transforming Ralph Fiennes into an unrecognizable figure as Voldemort, I truly find that more impressive than time period makeup. I was also sincerely disappointed that Alexandre Desplat did not receive a nomination for his wonderful score for both Part I and II, as he brought back the original magic done by John Williams, that had been lacking since he left after the fourth movie.
Unfortunately, it was not just in the categories in which it was shoved to the side. Normally when a large series comes to a conclusion, they received at the least a montage, quite a few jokes, and various references throughout the night to commemorate the series, such as in the case of film franchises like Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings. But Harry Potter did not receive any of this: they got a two second moment in the opening where they weren’t even the focus of the scene and a cutting joke about it finally being out of the Academy’s hair after it lost the last award it was nominated for. The fact that the Twilight series, which has never even received an Oscar nomination, was given an individual clip in the montage was just the first of many events that snubbed the Harry Potter series. The Academy Awards has once again proven that they care more about the political alignment of movies over the movies that truly had the greatest impacts.
HE's Golden Days by stephy As confetti falls from the sky and the parties were thrown amongst the HE students, I couldn’t help but step back and think about HE, the past, the present and the future of the site. I remember way back when I was a pure, young, innocent, super annoying newbie who came to the site. I had no idea what I was doing or what to expect from HE. I had spent hours trying to find the right site to join that was Harry Potter based and finally I came across the wondrous site we all know today. However back in its youth HE was a little different then what it is now. For one the site was much smaller and the Great Hall was jammed backed with threads upon threads of posts. Now you can see why there are so many strict rules with the RPG section. There also weren’t any badges that could be earned, some of the classes weren’t there like Art, Drama and Creative writing or Healer studies and there was no reputation bar either. The site wasn’t run by Raistlin and Amy’s username used to be Duck_the_duck. Oh the good old days when the chatty box was filled with members and I couldn’t keep up with the conversations taking place. They were good old days and had many wonderful members, some of who are still with us on HE, others have moved on because of their busy lives and then you have the members like me who disappear for a bit then return again only to disappear once more. One good thing about HE you’re always welcomed back by friendly faces, both new and old during each return.
After six years other Harry Potter sites would have died out. However HE is special. The site is filled with wonderful, dedicated members who give back to the site just as much as they receive from it. The Admins have been wonderful and are always thinking up ideas for the site. First Sharon and Amy were in charge always coming up with fun events and always expanding the site and the site was handed down to Raistlin who has been doing just as great as a job and making sure the site continues on. Six years of having a successful site going on is a great task and one that couldn’t be completed by anyone. Hears to HE’s sixth birthday and for many more in the future! *cheers*
by Raistlin The Wizard In this section of the Pensieve, former Hogwarts Divination Professor, now retired, answers readers' letters about dreams they had.
Sarah Knowles, 38, Kent.
"Last night I had a dream that I was trying to move a dead body that had been concealed in my basement, but was interrupted by two Aurors at the door. It was a very strange dream, and so realistic that I woke up with my heart pounding and couldn't go back to sleep for quite a while. What could that mean?" My poor woman, it breaks my heart having to give you such terrible news. The dead body is clearly a representation of yourself and the basement means you'll probably find yourself buried alive! The Aurors could only mean you're up to some dark deeds that will lead to your end, better luck in the next reincarnation my dear.
Richard Hugh, 57, Birmingham.
"I must have been asleep about 40 minutes or long enough to really get into a dream cycle. Anyway, I dreamt that someone crashed their body into mine and broke out my front teeth. It was so real. I could feel the broken teeth in my mouth and I was fishing around in there with my fingers to find all the little pieces of bone and tooth and get them out. I was so upset when I looked in the mirror, in my dream of course, to see my beautiful front teeth broken off. About the time they decided to wake me up I was searching for the phone to call my healer to see if he could fix them." Why has the eye within burdened me with the task to deliver these news to the world. Your dream can only mean one thing, a spell that will backfire and hit your mouth and blast it. Unfortunately the spell will be accidently too powerful and will cause your body to decay with infection I'm afraid. Say goodbye to your friends and family, you don't have much time.
Professor Trelawney couldn't see more letters as she felt too distraught by all the deaths that they contained, so we won't continue this section in the next edition. Thanks for all the readers who sent letters, we might have so other use for them in the future.
<A HREF="http://hogwarts-experience.heavenforum.org/t14939-drabbles-tournament-iv-sign-ups-instructions-always-open"><img src="https://i.servimg.com/u/f42/16/02/62/29/drabbl11.jpg"></A>
Some Parting Nonsense by Samantha Granger I was watching some PBS or History Channel show about King Arthur or something the other day, and they happened to be traveling by train, and the train just happened to be going over the bridge that The Hogwarts Express is going over when Harry is dangling from the Ford Angelina in Chamber of Secrets, and all of a sudden I screamed “It’s the Hogwarts Express! I wanna ride that!” Pretty sure I scared the crap out of my friend, who was watching it with me, but that’s the price you pay for having a friend as cool as me.
I don’t really think there was a point to that story, except that it kind of connects to Hogwarts, which connects to HE, and since it’s HE’s birthday, I’m just going to pretend that the story was meaningful.
I know this site means a lot to all of us who desperately wish we could really go to Hogwarts. HE is truly the next best thing. I’ve noticed a lot more people have been logging on lately, and I would like you all to know you have been missed, and we are really excited to see you again. Thank you to all the members who worked so hard last term, it was a great one, but I know this next one will be even better!
I hope you enjoyed the first Pensive edition of the new term!
