oh and .... I think I've seen (and taken a picture of, as far as I remember) one of those Tardis-things in Edinburgh this autumn - but it was actually a place where they sold waffles or cappucinos or whatever XD

Hey guys I went to islands of adventure/universal and the construction for the wizarding world of harry potter has begun. They closed off a few attractions like the Enchanted Oak and Flying Unicorn Kiddie Coaster. They might be renamed and adapted to fit into Potter World.

My uncle says enchanted oak might be replaced as The Three Broomsticks. (he works as a manager at Islands of Adventure Lost Continent)

Pathaway Bridge now open. You can see all Potter Construction. The new bridge goes across Forbidden Lagoon to Jurassic Park.

The Trip to London

I've decided to write a post with pics for each day of the trip :D Apologies in advance for any rambliness.

Day One - Arriving in London and Madam Tussauds

I got up at about 4.30am - very tired, but also excited and nervous. Here it was - the first day of the London trip, which we four had been planning for months and talking about for even longer. After almost three years of talking online we were finally meeting up, and I admit I was very nervous. Would it be weird? Would we all get on in real life? But at the same time I was very excited.

The trip down to London wasn't particularly fun. I'd decided to travel by coach rather than by train as it was a lot cheaper, but the problems started almost straight away. The driver of the coach was a grumpy old man, who couldn't get the locker underneath the coach to open for the luggage. The coach was delayed by about forty-five minutes, and I was pretty annoyed - after all, I had to meet Marie at the airport at a pre-planned time and I really hate being late for anything.

Anyway, once the locker problem had been sorted, we were underway and the journey was pretty uneventful as the coach drove to London. I was proud of myself for finding my way from the coach station to Heathrow airport, though on the first journey by tube I decided that I hated that method of travelling! It wasn't very fun lugging my heavy suitcase around either.

The train to Heathrow took a while, but finally I arrived and made my way to Terminal Three. I had been worried about trying to find Marie in the airport - after all, they're busy places, but I needn't have worried because she was waiting right by the entrance I came in from. It was really great to finally meet Marie!

After we'd met up the first thing we had to do was to find our hostel - which meant heading back into London by tube (again, not a fun experience with our suitcases!). The hostel wasn't too difficult to get to, so several tube changes and a bus ride later, we had arrived, checked in and dumped our stuff in the dorm room. We were surprised to see someone still sleeping - this was at 2pm!

Not wanting to waste any time, we set off for the first destination on our list - Madam Tussauds. When we arrived I was shocked to see how big the queue was, but we prevailed nevertheless and about an hour and a half later finally made it into the museum. I've not been before, so it was definitely of the fun.

The museum itself was rather crowded, but there's only so much oohing and awwing you can do over the waxworks - the fun comes from taking your pics with them, and it wasn't *too* difficult to get close enough to do so.

I think I look pretty bad in them, but I had been travelling most of the day so it's excusable!

Once we'd finished at Madam Tussauds, it was the evening so we decided to head back to the hostel. If I'm remembering rightly, I had a pot noodle for dinner, and Marie had Ice Cream. Oh yes, so very healthy!

I found it quite difficult to get to sleep that first night - the hostel was on a very busy road and above a pub, so it was pretty noisy...plus the beds weren't of the comfortable variety.

Day Two - Meeting Sharon, Mick & Aimee and Whipsnade Zoo

Early to rise on day two, as we'd agreed to get to the train station near Sharon's for 10.30 in the morning, and it took about an hour and a half to get there.

The breakfast that was included in the price of the hostel was unimpressive - cereal and toast - and so that morning was the first and only time we indulged in that!

A bus, tube and train journey later and we were at the station where we were meeting Sharon and Mick. Again, I was a little bit nervous but excited. When they arrived we drove off pretty quickly and headed to Whipsnade Zoo. I sat next to Aimee in Sharon's car and she seemed fascinated by Marie and I - she certainly stared a lot! It wasn't long before she began babbling though.

I'm sure you've all seen pics of Aimee and how cute she is, but she's even sweeter in real life! It was great to meet up with Sharon and Mick - and despite my fears before the trip that it would be strange meeting up with everybody, it didn't feel that way at all when we all did meet up.



Anyway, we got to Whipsnade and went in. It was a weird day weather wise - the sky was slightly grey and overcast but it wasn't cold (though Marie might disagree!). The zoo offered the pretty standard fare - but the first thing we did was go to see the sea lion show, which was pretty fun.



We spent most of the day at the zoo, just enjoying walking around looking at the animals and chatting.

I think my favourite animals were the elephants...

Once we'd finished at the zoo Sharon drove Marie and I back to the train station and we set off back to the hostel, with plans to meet Sharon, Mick and Aimee in Oxford the next day.

We had a pretty lazy evening, eating take-away fried chicken in the hostel's common room and watching films - Edward Scissorhands and The Simpson's Movie.

I slept much better that second night, despite the fact that the hostel was above a pub and there was a lot of bassy music!

I felt this exact same way - it was if this wasnt the first time we had all met up - it was brilliant

Day Three - Oxford

On the third day of the trip we had arranged to meet Sharon and Mick in Oxford. To get there, Marie and I went by coach - and it took us a little while to find where the coach was leaving from (in fact, we missed the one we'd booked to go on but the driver let us on the one after, thank goodness!).

The coach trip was as uneventful as travelling always is, though I was quite amazed that this particular coach had an internet connection, if you wanted it O.O. Anyway, we arrived in Oxford and joy of joys - it began to rain. Fortunately, the rain lasted no longer than about five minutes, and we had a lovely sunshine for the rest of the day.

Oxford was majorly busy - a sunny Saturday during the school holidays was perhaps not the best time to go if we wanted to avoid the crowds, but it was manageable. Sharon and Mick were running a little late, so Marie and I looked around Waterstones and then had lunch before we met up with them.

Oxford is a very pretty, photogenic city - what with all the university colleges and the other old buildings. It was nice just to walk around for a bit and admire all the architecture.

We headed towards the Bodlian library - a huge underground library with EVERY book ever printed. Unfortunately, to enter you have to pay to go on a guided tour and we didn't think that was worth paying for. We were able to look around the courtyard area, however.

After that we headed to the Oxford Botanical Gardens, which was a lovely respite from the crowded streets. And of course, the His Dark Materials fan in me was squeeing at seeing the place where Will and Lyra last saw each other in the final book...and I couldn't help but take the following pictures...

After going to the Botanical Gardens we wandered around Oxford for a little longer, before heading up towards Christ Church College - which was used as the filming location for some parts of the Harry Potter films. At this point Sharon, Mick and Aimee had to leave to get back in time for Aimee's tea and bedtime, but Marie and I decided to brave the queue forming outside Christ Church and go inside the college.

It was a lovely college, very picturesque and it did make me feel slightly jealous - imagine going to university at a place like this...

The hall at Christ Church is where they filmed some scenes of the Great Hall in the HP films - and it is so much smaller than it appears in the films - camera trickery at it's best!



When we'd finished looking around Christ Church it was time for an ice cream and then some shopping (yay!), before we headed back to the coach station and back into London to the hostel. It was quite late when we got back, so we did little more than go to the internet cafe nearby and plan what we would do on the Sunday with Sharon over Skype.

Day Four - Wendover Woods

Let me preface this by saying - grrrr stupid public transport! We'd arranged to meet Sharon, Mick and Aimee by the train station again, before heading to a place called Wendover Woods. However, upon arriving at the train station, we found that parts of the train line had been closed and there was a replacement bus service instead.

So far, not so bad, but the bus got caught up in really bad traffic and so we arrived quite a bit later than planned. No matter - we headed out to the woods anyway and had a picnic. Marie thought that it was cold, but it just seemed like quite nice, normal summer weather to me!

Once we'd finished lunch, we set off on one of the many trails at Wendover - one that said it was a 3/4 of a mile trail. Well...somewhere along the way we went wrong...we ended up walking for about four or five miles in total - taking the long way around back to the car park. Luckily we happened upon an orienteering group who pointed us in the right direction. Despite the fact that all of us felt dead on our feet by the time we collapsed at the café, it was a nice walk and the area of Wendover Woods was lovely - nice and quiet and picturesque.

When Marie and I got back to the hostel she made a traditional Quebec meal called Poutine - which was very nice.

Thought I would send you a link of some of the photos Aaron and I have taken since my arrival in England. I'm currently on week 5 of 6 1/2!!

I love it here and definitely going to relocate. Most likely the end of March. About 6 months before my wedding

I was lucky enough to meet my very good friend Jimmy (Castledown) In London for drinks my 2nd week here. He's just as fantastic in person as he is here on HE and online where we have been talking for almost 2 years now. Hoping to meet up with him again before I come back to the states.

*sigh* when we were in London recently i got funny looks, i was singing London's Bridge VERY loudly when we went passed it.

I should go and have a wonder along Hadrian's Wall (not all of it mind, im not THAT stupid) and relish ion the beauty of my home .... or maybe just run along the wall until i get chased by heritage people like last summer .... I ONLY WANTED TO CLIMB THE TREE FROM ROBIN HOOD PRINCE OF THIEVES!
