| A more recent example of a famous artist is none other than Salvador Felip Jacint Dalí Domènech, or better known as Salvador Dali. He is one of the 20th century’s most famous artist with his surreal artworks. His works of art are usual strange, dreamlike images that are completely different from the artworks from the past. In his early years, Dali was always rapt in artworks. His mother encouraged him interest and enrolled him in a drawing school. He met with local artists to study their techniques and practice in his own home. His father started to display his charcoal paintings in the family room and he soon started to become well-known. Before the age of 16, he had his first work on display at Municipal Theater in Figueres in 1919. When he turned 17, Dali moved from home to attend the San Fernando School of Fine Arts in Madrid. Once there, he started to cause attention a bit of a disturbance with the student body. He kept his hair long and slicked back with a large curly beard. He also tend to wear old clothes that was a century old. However, Dali cause a bit of a scandal in 1926 for stating that there were no teachers competent enough to test him for his finals and therefore he refused to take them. For this outburst, he was then expelled from the school. He then traveled the world and researched all the techniques of inspiring artists. His blunt and outspoken attitude soon made his work become both admired and criticized. He ignored what people thought and continued to continue his surrealist artworks. Dali spent time experimenting on sculptures, paintings and contributing to the film, fashion, and photography industries. However on June 10, 1982, his thirst for art soon died as his muse left him. His wife Gala died and took along with her, his passion. He never painted again. Many times there were occurrences of his attempted suicide such as a mysterious fire in his bedroom and refusing to drink to dehydrate himself are a few examples. However, he was saved in time, and close acquaintances kept a close eye on him until he died of heart failure years later on January 23, 1989. An example of Salvador Dali’s famous works This painting is usually interpreted as a way to contradict the idea that time is rigid and would bend to nobody. This painting shows various clocks and watches melting along the beach and desk. It also shows the clock being covered by flies and ants, implying that even little insignificant things can overcome time. His inspiration for this painting came one hot August afternoon as he sat outside and watched a wheel of cheese start to melt under the scorching heat.
