What would Halloween be without a good ghost story?

Do you know any you want to share? Please keep all stories to a 12+ rating.

I dont know many but one I do remember is 'Humans can lick too' This is not the version i know but it is very similar:

Once there was a a beautiful young girl who lived in a small town just south of Farmersburg. Her parents had to go to town for a while, so they left their daughter home alone, but protected by her dog, which was a very large collie. The parents told the girl to lock all the windows and doors after they had left. And at about 8:00pm the parents went to town. So doing what she was told the girl shut and locked evey window and every door. But there was one window in the basement that would not close completely.

Trying as best as she could she finally got the window shut, but it would not lock. So she left the window, and went back upstairs. But just to make sure that no one could get in, she put the dead-bolt lock on the basment door.

Then she sat down had some dinner and decided to go to sleep for the night. Settling down to sleep at about 12:00 she snuggled up with the dog and fell asleep.

But at one point, she suddenly woke up. She turned and looked at the clock...it was 2:30. She snuggled down again wondering what had woken her.....when she heard a noise. It was a dripping sound. She thought that she had left the water running, and now it was dripping into the drain of her sink. So thinking it was no big deal she decided to go back to sleep.

But she felt nervous so she reached her hand over the edge of her bed, and let the dog lick her hand for reasurance that he would protect her. Again at about 3:45 she woke up hearing drippping. She was slightly angry now but went back to sleep anyway. Again she reached down and let the dog lick her hand. Then she fell back to sleep.

At 6:52 the girl decided that she had had enough...she got up just in time to see her parents were pulling up to the house. "Good,"she thought. "Now somebody can fix the sink...'cause I know I didn't leave it running." She walked to the bathroom and there was the collie dog, skinned and hung up on the curtain rod. The noise she heard was its blood dripping into a puddle on the floor. The girl screamed and ran to her bedroom to get a weapon, incase someone was still in the house.....and there on the floor, next to her bed she saw a small note, written in blood, saying: HUMANS CAN LICK TOO

Around the campfire: Halloween Ghost Stories Window1

The Goth Girl and the Grave
Last Halloween a group of teenagers got together for a Halloween party. By the middle of the night there was a house full of people, singing, dancing and drinking. Just before midnight one guy shut off the music, stood up on the table and said, "Do you people want to have some REAL fun?" Everybody all shouted, "YES!!"
"OK", he said, "We'll all go to the old cemetery, just down the street from here. We'll stick a knife in someone's grave and we'll all sit there for about thirty minutes, and wait to see what happens."

Most people said there was no way they were going to do that. Then one Goth girl stood up and spoke. She wore all black and said she wasn't scared." Everyone decided, they had to see this, so everyone got up and walked to the cemetery.

The Goth girl took out a six inch hunting knife and slammed it into a grave.... but this wasn't just any grave. She put the knife into the grave of a mass murderer, who had killed five people. Then the Goth girl said, "Better yet, I'll stay here for an hour. Who's brave enough to stay with me?" The rest of the crowd declined, and they walked back to the house and carried on with the party.

One hour later, at 1.00pm, they stopped the party again and walked back down to the cemetery. When they arrived the Goth girl wasn't there. They all thought she was either playing games or had gone home.

They started to walk back to the party when they heard the sound of twigs crackling in the leaves behind them. They all turned around to look but there was nothing there. They continued to walk on at a slightly quicker pace now. When they came to the cemetery's gate, they saw something running extremely fast pass the gate in front of them. They were all very scared now and gathered in a big circle.

There, next to the cemetery's gate, was the Goth girl, stabbed, with her torso ripped open by her very own six inch knife. Everyone started screaming and ran off in every direction.

The next morning a few concerned parents had called the police to say that their kids didn't come home last night. After numerous calls the police went up to the house where the party was held to see what happened.

Apart from a trashed house, there was no sign of anybody. After asking a few of the neighbours, they were told that most of the kids had been seen walking into the cemetery around midnight.

When the police arrived at the cemetery it was deserted. One officer then saw a note attached to the cemetery gate. It said, "They should never have entered my territory. All I wanted was peace and quiet. I'm already dead...but now they share my pain. Happy Halloween! "

The police looked everywhere, but found nothing. Finally, after a more detailed search, they found them. Well kind of. They started to discover body parts hidden all over the cemetery. First they found hearts, then legs, then heads. All of the kids had been cut into pieces. The only body left intact was the Goth girl, the only one who had been brave enough to plunge a knife into the grave on Halloween.

bloody mary

She lived deep in the forest in a tiny cottage and sold herbal remedies for a living. Folks living in the town nearby called her Bloody Mary, and said she was a witch. None dared cross the old crone for fear that their cows would go dry, their food-stores rot away before winter, their children take sick of fever, or any number of terrible things that an angry witch could do to her neighbors.

Then the little girls in the village began to disappear, one by one. No one could find out where they had gone. Grief-stricken families searched the woods, the local buildings, and all the houses and barns, but there was no sign of the missing girls. A few brave souls even went to Bloody Mary's home in the woods to see if the witch had taken the girls, but she denied any knowledge of the disappearances. Still, it was noted that her haggard appearance had changed. She looked younger, more attractive. The neighbors were suspicious, but they could find no proof that the witch had taken their young ones.

Then came the night when the daughter of the miller rose from her bed and walked outside, following an enchanted sound no one else could hear. The miller's wife had a toothache and was sitting up in the kitchen treating the tooth with an herbal remedy when her daughter left the house. She screamed for her husband and followed the girl out of the door. The miller came running in his nightshirt. Together, they tried to restrain the girl, but she kept breaking away from them and heading out of town.

The desperate cries of the miller and his wife woke the neighbors. They came to assist the frantic couple. Suddenly, a sharp-eyed farmer gave a shout and pointed towards a strange light at the edge of the woods. A few townsmen followed him out into the field and saw Bloody Mary standing beside a large oak tree, holding a magic wand that was pointed towards the miller's house. She was glowing with an unearthly light as she set her evil spell upon the miller's daughter.

The townsmen grabbed their guns and their pitchforks and ran toward the witch. When she heard the commotion, Bloody Mary broke off her spell and fled back into the woods. The far-sighted farmer had loaded his gun with silver bullets in case the witch ever came after his daughter. Now he took aim and shot at her. The bullet hit Bloody Mary in the hip and she fell to the ground. The angry townsmen leapt upon her and carried her back into the field, where they built a huge bonfire and burned her at the stake.

As she burned, Bloody Mary screamed a curse at the villagers. If anyone mentioned her name aloud before a mirror, she would send her spirit to revenge herself upon them for her terrible death. When she was dead, the villagers went to the house in the wood and found the unmarked graves of the little girls the evil witch had murdered. She had used their blood to make her young again.

From that day to this, anyone foolish enough to chant Bloody Mary's name three times before a darkened mirror will summon the vengeful spirit of the witch. It is said that she will tear their bodies to pieces and rip their souls from their mutilated bodies. The souls of these unfortunate ones will burn in torment as Bloody Mary once was burned, and they will be trapped forever in the mirror.

this is like a really old one but its been used in so many stories

The Headless Horseman

One cold winter night, early in the New Year, a certain Dutchman left the tavern in Tarrytown and started walking to his home in the hollow nearby. His path led next to the old Sleepy Hollow cemetery where a headless Hessian soldier was buried. At midnight, the Dutchman came within site of the graveyard. The weather had warmed up during the week, and the snow was almost gone from the road. It was a dark night with no moon, and the only light came from his lantern.

The Dutchman was nervous about passing the graveyard, remembering the rumors of a galloping ghost that he had heard at the tavern. He stumbled along, humming to himself to keep up his courage. Suddenly, his eye was caught by a light rising from the ground in the cemetery. He stopped, his heart pounding in fear. Before his startled eyes, a white mist burst forth from an unmarked grave and formed into a large horse carrying a headless rider.

The Dutchman let out a terrible scream as the horse leapt toward him at a full gallop. He took to his heels, running as fast as he could, making for the bridge since he knew that ghosts and evil spirits did not care to cross running water. He stumbled suddenly and fell, rolling off the road into a melting patch of snow. The headless rider thundered past him, and the man got a second look at the headless ghost. It was wearing a Hessian commander's uniform.

The Dutchman waited a good hour after the ghost disappeared before crawling out of the bushes and making his way home. After fortifying himself with schnapps, the Dutchman told his wife about the ghost. By noon of the next day, the story was all over Tarrytown. The good Dutch folk were divided in their opinions. Some thought that the ghost must be roaming the roads at night in search of its head. Others claimed that the Hessian soldier rose from the grave to lead the Hessian soldiers in a charge up nearby Chatterton Hill, not knowing that the hill had already been taken by the British.

Whatever the reason, the Headless Horseman continues to roam the roads near Tarrytown on dark nights from that day to this.
