| This class is slightly different to the usual classes. Instead of questions and answers it is your job to write a small report on a case study of your choice. The case study should be a dark creature. You need to write the report as though you have studied the creature over a period of 7 days. Document their movements, temperaments, habits, attacks and defenses and anything else you think is important. Remember, the more you put into this report the higher chances of housepoints.
Be creative and have fun!!!
Word count: Up to you, yet a couple of lines for each day wont earn you as much as a couple of paragraphs!
Total possible housepoints: 100
The best student will get an award point plus their name in the Hall of Fame and the house with most students taking part will get 100 points at the end of every term.Good Work everyone. Raistlin The Wizard, DADA Professor. Remember: Cite any and all sources used

| Case study of a dark creature: My dark creature is a vampire. Day One: The vampire was beautiful, stunning almost. As she bent her head to drink I saw the enlarged Fangs, but they didn’t scare me. She in herself scared me, not of her nature but the was she walked, head held high, legs striding with confidence, arms swinging gently by her sides, and the glint in her eyes. The vampire was alone, living by a stream in a cottage, almost like ‘Handsel and Gretel’. She left the cottage to only to drink and lay waste. At these times I was careful to stay out of sight. I peered through her window in at her home, black all black, what looked like trophies lined the wall, they were skulls. Ten minutes to midnight she transformed, her back stretching, arms elongating, sprouting wings, Hair covered her body. She walked to the back and leaped into the night. I followed on my horse, keeping her with-in sight. She halted by a village, I could hear a scream, and mumbled words. And then silence as I approached a young maiden was on the ground covered in blood, her own blood. The vampire over her drinking from a flow of blood at the girls throat. And she left, flying into the sky carrying a limb body in her talon like feet. Day Two: The Vampire came out into the morning drenched in blood, she held a knife bent on her knees. And shouted up into the sky I qui le hath a renversé le sang d'un hath mortel a mis en gage mon individu au thou le diable et continue à servir le thee! Which translates into: I who hath spilt the blood of a mortal hath pledged my self to thou the Devil and continue to serve thee! She then rose to her feet and taking her knife drew it across her hand, black blood poured out. She smoothed her blood on a stone and said Et donnez mon sang à la puissance, Translation: And give my blood to the power. She turned and fled into her hut. I gazed through her window watching her every move. She painted and painted for hours. When her painting done she lay it out in the sun to dry. I looked down on the canvass, purple and black roses twined to form a star with a circle around it. That night she transformed again ten minutes to midnight and flew to the mountains. She circled and flew with the bats. They surrounded her, taking and showing her places. Day three: The woman stayed out all night with the creatures of the night. She returned home and drank from a glass of red mixture, blood. Afterwards she came out retrieved her painting and beat it with a whip. She transformed again around five o’clock, and attacked her painting, tearing it to shreds. She returned from her cabin with a limb body. The body of a girl, from day’s earlier. She scattered the painting shards along the body. And whispered Le soleil à musarder, de phase à la vie complètement, au choix entre la vie après la mort et à aucun. Laissez-la surgir et courir. Translation: Sun to moon, live to living dead, The choice between afterlife and none. Let her arise and run. The vampire left. The body slowly rose and underwent a transformation. Like the one the Vampire underwent every day. The body shirked and vanished into the sky. The vampire followed her, as did I. The newborn Vampire led us to another stream closer to the river and another village. The first vampire spoke with her. Vous vous chassez de phase, mordrez une fois, et le tuerez. Honorez votre maître le diable. Translation: You hunt you live, shall bite once, and shall kill. Honor your master the devil. And she left. Day Four: The Vampire did not arise until noon. She strayed out once the sun had been covered in clouds. She ran to the stream. Drank quickly and returned to the inside, before the sun could return. As I gazed through her window she transformed and untransfomed. Over and over again. Each time she screamed. The sun finally set and the vampire. Burst from the house, and into the sky, at ten to midnight. She flew screaming along the way. At last she stopped at the village. Again she killed a woman. She drank from her throat until the victim was white. She then killed again another woman, and drank to until she was white. She again killed with out drinking the blood she gathered her bodies and flew back into the forest to her home. She drank form the stream and carried the bodies inside. Day Five: The vampire rose at the sound of the first rain drop. She ran out side and drank from the stream. Then returned to her home. She took out her knife and knelt in a clearing and yelled as she did the second day and slit her hand, her wrist, and other wrist. Until she turned white. She covered three stones in blood, and yelled Et donnez mon sang à la puissance, once more. She went again into her home and pulled out her knife, butchered the first two girls and placed their skulls on the wall. Satisfied, she slit the third girl’s wrist, and caught the running blood in a vial. Each time the bottle filled she placed it along the wall. She did this until, the girl was white. The last and finally bottle was set aside. The vampire sighed and begun to paint. On a new canvass. She painted with purples and black and with the girl’s own blood. When finished she set the painting outside to bathe in the moonlight. She flew into the air taking the empty first two girls and vanished into the bat’s cave and fed them the remains. She returned home and slept. Day Six: The vampire rose, drank, had a vial of blood, and retrieved the painting. She whipped it and shredded it over the girl’s body. Said the same words as on day three. The girls did not stir for hours she did not move the vampire paced impatient. And still nothing happened. She transformed grabbed the still limp body and burst from the cottage and to the bat cave, she ate and fed the bats the girl. She returned to her home and paced all night. Day Seven ~ the Final day. The vampire rose, drank, had her blood, and ran to the clearing. She clutched a skull; she turned it over in her hands. She took out a vial of blood and over turned the bottle on the skull and shouted into the sky. Sang que j'ai bu maintenant le givin à toi la puissance plus élevée, le diable. Et I sien servant. Translation: Blood that I have drunk now given to you the higher power, the devil. And I his servant. She slit her wrist over the skull and poured her own blood over it. She buried the skull and vanished into her home. She transformed and slept in vampire form. Until ten minutes to midnight when she rose, and flew into the sky. She went to the bat cave and gave them blood from her slit wrist. Each bat died and was reborn from the demented bodies. Now as children of the vampire, half the bats which had been transformed attacked the other half and each ate their fill of blood. | Case Study of a Werewolf By Phoenix Song Day One (2 nights before the full moon) I pulled on my coat and scarf and grabbed my backpack which was filled with torches and blankets and a flask of hot cocoa. It was two nights before the full moon - one night before the werewolf would change into the so called monster of the night. I wanted to begin my research today to see if there were any signs to aid scientific research to help stop murders before they occured. To do this I needed to find the signs. I was going to a local wilderness, one that housed nothing but death. My friend, Damian, had agreed to meet me there. Damian was not only a friend but he was a werewolf. It had started only three months ago when he was bitten by what we thought was a rabid dog. We now know we were lucky to get out alive. So far, we have taken precautions and gone to this fenced off wilderness each month. As I met with Damian, I noticed how pale he looked. His eyes were bloodshot and showed distict signs of tiredness. He informed me that he already felt the taste for meat - steaks to be precise - raw steaks. Unfortunatly all i could offer him was a cold ham sandwich. He seemed edgy and afraid, not like the Damian I knew. He seemed to hear things that I could not and by 1am his eye sight had enhanced dramatically Day 2: (1 night before the full moon) As I sat in the protective and half hidden cage high in one of the trees, Damian looked at me with sad eyes. I could see his pain. At precisly midnight he fell to the floor, withering in the darkness. His cries were low as his body shook. All in all it took barely five minutes for the transformation to be complete. I watched how his sense of smell heightened. He quickly climbed the tree towards me, though one shot from the electric pulsator in his stomach made him jump back onto solid ground. He seemed less active but very hungry. He soon caught a couple of stray rabbits, his teeth gnawing through the bone with ease. I could see the hunger in his eyes. He glanced towards me many a tme, yet the sense of the electricity around me seemed to ward him off. It showed that even though Damian was a so called 'monster' he was not stupid. The rest of the night was spent mainly watching him forage for meat. Day 3: (Full moon) Damian was very quiet today, his human form pale and grazed. He informed me of his hunger yet could not remember the past nights activity at all. His body shook so much that he could not grasp hold of even the hot tea i handed him. Beads of sweat ran from his pores as he spent most of the day under a thick blanket in the dark - the light seeming too much for him That night was a repeat of the first, yet the wolf seemed stronger and more determined, as if the full moon was his inner strength and power. He came close to my confines many a time until I had to shoot him with a tranquiliser dart. Unfortunatly apart from the soft whinings, Damian spent the rest of the night asleep. I did brave opening his eyes, gasping at the hollow and dead yellow eyes of the wolf, so unlike his usual bright blue eyes. His teeth were like fangs and I could smell a sour odour on his matted fur. Day 4: (1 day after full moon) Again, Damian spent the day huddled beneath the blanket. Even though he had spent most of the previous night asleep, he still looked pale and tired, yet his skin crawled with sweat not allowing him to sleep. That night, Damian the wolf seemed on the prowl as if knowing that this was the last night of 'freedom'. He out ran various animals such as a wolf and its cubs, even ripping apart a snake of the grass. He tore through the animals as if they were jelly. His eyes bright yellow under the waning moon. Day 5: (2 days after the full moon) Damian seemed almost comatose today. His skin looked stretched and sore as red blisters appeared under his arms, around his gums and on his legs. His hair was matted in leaves as the smell of blood tainted the basement where we sat. His eyes were glazed and wet as he lay unfocused before me. He informed me that the need for meat was still running strong through his veins even though the full moon was passed. Day 6: (3 days after the full moon) Damian almost seemed dehidrated. He guzzled pint after pint of water, yet his skin still sweated an odourous stench. He braved the shower yet he was still weak. I hadnt the heart to tell him that he was screaming in his sleep last night, as if his subconscious was aware of his past nightly activities and fighting to run away. I could still see the deep cuts and bruises upon his still pale skin as he winced and cried out every time he moved. The need for meat had subsided, yet he was still withdrawn, sullen and quiet - distant from me and the world and the light continued to give him headaches. Day 7: (4 days after the full moon) Damian braved the outside world today. His skin still pale and fighting to repair the cuts and scrapes, yet his eyes had lost the yellowing completely. I asked him what he remembered from the past few nights and he said that he could barely even remember the days - days in which he had been in human form. Turning off my own light that night I noticed a small cut on my arm. The skin around it had tinged green and a sour odour emmited from it. | |

| The Yeti By KatieBellaTrix
I have decided to do my report on the yeti which makes it's home in Tibet. It was very hard to get close to and i had to enlist the help of one of the International Task Force members to come with me. THe obliged though very reclutently, I must admit.
Day 1 Today I set up camp about a mile away from a known yeti cave. We had to make far away so the yeti would not attack when we lit a fire. Naturally it was freezing but I made sure to wear dragon hide gloves and jackets at all times. About mid day we went to visit the beast to find it sleeping in it's cave. We saw this using omnioculars of coarse, for we could risk getting seen and attacked. After about an hour of sitting in the snow freezing he started to stir. As he stood up to stretch my expert (Falco) realized that this yeti was responsible for many attacks (muggle and wizard alike) and that they had named him Walter. Walter spent the rest of the day throwing rocks and muggle climbers down below who could be heard screaming avalanche! This really tickled Falco and whe had to run to prevent Walter from hearing his giggles. After that we couldn't risk going back becasue night was setting in and it would be just to dangerous. Day 2 When we woke this day Falco and I quickly made a breakfast of treacle tart which we had packed in great supply before we left. After we finished hastily, we made our way to the yeti's cave to find him gone. However i couldn't give up that quickly though Falco wanted too. We located his footprints and fallowed them percautiosly. After about an hour of walking we found him crouched behind a boulder and found he is not very skilled at hiding but is not seen more often because of muggle ignorance. Well, that ignorance is what got two muggles killed that morning.Luckily, Falco was there and obliviated their distraught muggle companion and sent an owl back to his headquarters at once so they coud mark it down as a mountaineering accident. After he was full, Walter walked back to his cave and took a long nap. Which is how we discovered their odd sleep pattern. Day 3 Today we got up earlier and fallowed him around as he walked in circles. We were wondering what he was doing when he finally stopped and a ledge in the mountain which still had muggle tracks in the snow. This eemed to please our yeti because he jumped up and down singing a sort of victory song. This made me and Falco laugh and we proceeded to stiffle them with our fists and robes. Then Walter surprized us and started puching the side of the mountain. It shook the ground and our nerves we quicly backed away and even my expert didn't know what he was doing. Bits and peices of rock came hurtling at us and we were showered with the peices of mountain and snow. After a few hours it started snowing and we were freezing so we decided to take turns systematically drying each others robes which turned out a good idea. Finally there was a new cave dug into the mountain and he fell asleep without food becasue muggles were oblivously still mourining the loss of the climbers Walter had for breakfast on day 2. Day 4 Day four and now muggles could be seen climbong the Alps again. It was amusing to see them attempt such a difficult climb without magic. The yeti again seemd to be interested in them but did not throw rocks. He grew hungry and because no muggles were around to eat he ate snow hares and other small animals. Mostly though he just waited. Day 5 Today was interesting. Human mountaineers came closer and the yeti grew impatient so her went down to meet them halfway. For such a big beast he was very gracious and well balanced at climbing. We had to apparate down because of the conditions and we proceeded to hide behind a few well placed boulders *smiles and winks* The camp had a fire going and we knew that was trouble but we didnt want to interefere with muggles for the fear of giving away our secret. The yeti joined us shorty and became enraged at the sight of the fire. He attempted to destroy the camp but it turned out to be not only muggles but wizards alike! They rushed out of the tents wands raised and started firing away curses at the yeti. Quickly Falco and i joined in the fight to help them because the were so despertly struggling. I proceeded to put out the fire and then Falco crawled behind Walter while i distracted him. Then with a few well said words and some good aim the yeti fell over in an enchanted sleep. We knew he wasnt dead so we weren't worried but the mountaneers were as they thanked us endlessly for out help. I was very humble unlike Falco, who invited them to join us and they accepted to my dismay. Day 6
Today we watched the yeti closely to make sure he recovered form the previous days events. He did fairly quickly and we were relieved. Walter climbed back up to his cave and slept for a while we got accquainted with our new companions who turned out to be from London as well. When the yeti woke up he hunted for small creatures and ate them rather vicsouly on the spot not even waiting to go back to cave and out of the snowstorm that was now in full swing. Our new companions watched interestingly as we made sure to keep their yelps and screams muffled. After that it was time to go to sleep becasue there was no use to watch a sleeping yeti. Day 7 On our last day we erased all signs of our presence and got closer than we had gotten to him all week. It was a terrible ordeal. He smelled orrible and his fur was a mess but i was entranced with his mighty beauty and stregnth. as we climbed back down the mountain perferring to do it the muggle way for the expirence the yeti saw us and chesed us down claws bared so we proceeded to just apparate our seperate ways. *smiles and winks* Gryffnidor Girl Works Sited: http://www.hp-lexicon.org/bestiary/bestiary_y.html

| Study, Zombies.
Day one.
Zombies are hypothetical creatures of the sort that philosophers have been known to cherish. A zombie is physically identical to a normal human being, but completely lacks conscious experience...I found this zombie wandering a graveyard a couple days ago, and decided to keep it for this report. I watched this zombie moan and groan around the small room I was keeping it in. It did this for hours. You could identify the zombie as a female. She had grayish green skin. Blank grey eyes and what remained of her clothes were ripped and old looking. She had grey hair yet she didn't look that old. Through out those many hours that I watched her, Only twice did she try breaking down the door. But she lacks to strength. Through out the rest of the day. That was all she did.
Day two.
I decided that the empty shell was probably getting hungry. I'll admit, I was afraid to open the door to put a living dog in. Would I to be eaten alive? I decided to attempt the challenge in front of me. I opened the door, and shoved the large german shepherd inside, quickly closing and locking the metal door. The dog whimpered and backed up, but it was no use. The moaning zombie stumbled over to the whimpering dog, and attacked. I felt no sorrow for the dog. I watched the zombie tear the dog to shreds, she began by biting open it's stomach and feasting on the meal inside. Blood went everywhere. The dog, yowling in pain was still alive. The zombie was not pleased with the loud yowls of the dog and she bit the dogs neck right off to silence it. After the zombie had half finished her meal, it stopped. She saw me at the window. I looked into her eyes, the gray eyes which showed no spark of intelligence. She seemed to get angry and started charging for the plastic window..I knew it wouldn't break but I was still scared. So I ran.
Day three.
I came back the next day, and decided to lower myself more, to avoid being seen. All that remained of the dog were its bones. I looked all around the room, expect at the door. I didn't see the zombie. But then I heard ramming sounds. The zombie was trying to ram the door down..This could get bad. It was probably hungry..I would have to just wait untill it calmed down for me to feed it. After about an hour or two, it had given up. I went off to find a St. Benard. I brought it with me to the room and then shoved it in. The same thing repeated from yesterday. Expect the Benard was a little braver, It tried to attack the zombie. It's attempts failed.
Day Four.
Things were going to remain the same untill I found something new...I need a really brave animal..A very brave dog..I went off to a breeder and found the bravest dog you could come across. I paid the woman the money and came back to the room. The zombie was trying to ram the door again. I sighed, let the dog go. It started growling at the door. I stood on a different side, and opened the door, so the door would shelter me. The dog ran in and tackled the zombie back. The zombie was away from the dog..I shut it and locked it again. I looked up at the window..What was this? The zombie..had..bitten the dog. The dog was still alive, it was now running around the room avoiding the zombie. . I looked at my watch. It was 11:00pm.
Day Five.
I'm going to stick it out till 12:00pm, I got special permission to be up that late. I peered through the window..and noticed something different. The dog, instead of being dead was also stumbling around the room..It had become a zombie as well. Fascinating. If you are to be bitten by a zombie, you become one..I want to know more about this. I need to watch it happen. I want to know how long it takes for you to become one. I'll need to go to a different dog breeder..I came back, with the same type of dog. This was a police dog. I let it go into the room. The same thing that happened yesterday, repeated today, Expect I didn't leave. The dog got bit, and avoided the hungry zombies. After an hour..It fell to the ground, as if dead. A few minutes later it started spasming..It got up..and snarled, then stumbled around like the other two. It was 11:30pm..All three of the zombies started coming to the window..Tomorrow then..I'll wait till 12:30 before leaving..
Day Six.
I didn't leave the school untill 10 pm. I had some food for the zombies tonight. I brought three cats. I love cats, but I've already killed so many dogs. So I threw the cats in. One of them clung to me..I couldn't put it in..I let it go on the ground. I watched as the zombies feasted apon the two other cats. 11:45pm 11:55pm 12:00. It was a nightmare! The zombies went beserk! I had to keep away from the window..Or they would break it. They were even attacking each other..The female zombie had killed the two dogs. And eaten them..That was enough for today.
Day Seven.
Today..was interesting..I observed, as usual the zombie seemed more angry she..then it happened. She broke the window on the little cottage. She clambered out and came after me. I back up slowly. She lunged. I was tackled to the ground and before I knew it, I had been bitten. It was awful, a horrible feeling, My arm was being tore apart. I manged to get her off, and I ran. I went to the hospital wing, and the lady cured my arm within a few hours. It left a nasty purple scar and it hurt alot. That zombie is still wandering the wild I thought. I decided to warn the Headmaster..A teacher took care of the zombie. And that was the end of that.
Conclusion:It seems over many days, the zombie gets stronger and stronger, She started off weak, Not being able to break the window. But then on the seven..She was so..Mad? I guess..Hungry? It broke.

| Day 1 After many days of travel I have came across the dark creature I have searched for, for years. Many said that I was crazy for looking for it. The creature that I’m talking about is the dementor. A terrible creature it is. I knew I saw near when I started thinking of… of terrible things. They are clocked and after a day of observing them I noticed that they never lower their cloaks. I have not yet seen them feed either. I am excited in learning more hopefully I will be able to over come my feelings and stay for a few days
Day 2 Another day and no hint of any feeding habits. Maybe they’re like snakes and that they only feed once in a while. As I continued to watch I saw they made a rasping noise, like they were breathing in more than air. Like they were searching for something but what I do not know. Through out most of the day they traveled sometimes coming closer to me but once they did I started to think happy thoughts and they would turn around and go the other way. These creature fright me, I’ll have to be extra careful around them.
Day 3 I have noticed that they were traveling in the direction of a prison. What business could they have there? There is nothing but evil, sad and depressed people there. I continued on hoping to find out more answers about them. Just a few more hours of travel tomorrow and I’ll know what they are up to.
Day 4 Once they have reached the prison they started making that rasping noise. Breathing in something, something that is here in the prison. They slipped in through the doors and none of the muggles seen them. All they did was that they started to look depressed, like they were going to cry over the lost of someone. What terrible creatures they are. They slowly made their way to the cells, holding the prisoners. They all looked depressed, sad about what had happened, the terror, pain and guilt they had suffered in their life. Then each of the dementors took a prisoner each and threw back their clocks. Such a terrible site it was. There were huge lips and that was all. There were no eyes or nose. Then the dementor took the prisoner and began to, what looked like, suck out his soul. After it was finished it looked satisfied, and the man, he didn’t even look like he knew he was there. I was tempted to rum away but I had to know more.
Day 5 I spent all last night trying to figure out why these creatures had sucked the man’s soul out. I had figured that it’s just its way of feeding. They live off of others souls. But I still want to know where they came from, and why it was put on this earth. After many hours of trying to convince myself to follow them I decided to venture forth hoping not to meet the same soul sucking experience as that man. Once again the dementors traveled on to find their next prey.
Day 6 Today the dementors almost found me. It was harder his time to think of a happy thought. They just kept clouding my head with… with terrible images. I have also come to a theory that the rasping noise they make is them trying to find their next pry. Such a sad fate it must be to have your soul sucked out. One more day of observations should be enough.
Day 7 As I was about to wrap up this adventure the dementors noticed my emotions had changed and were coming for me. I tried to think of something happy as they clouded my mind but it was no use. They came closer and closer. I kept thinking of all of the bad things that had happened. Then all of a sudden something gray or silver came and drove the dementors away. I wanted to get away quickly so I never looked back. No one should ever to try to find a dementor without knowing how to get rid of them.

| THE BOGGART
Day one THE CAPTURE After nearly missing to catch the mysterious boggart several times now I was determined that this day was going to be one of success. A friend of mine had spotted a boggart in her broom cupboard a few hours ago and sent me an emergency owl post telling me about it. I apperated to her house immediatly and now have the boggart cornered. Everytime I get near the little beast it changes itself into a werewolf. I hate them, scare the wits out of me. But I knew that I had to keep my head if I was going to capture the little beast. After several werewolf transformations and riddikulus incantations I finally had him. I threw a pillowcase over him and tied it up with an unlockable rope charm! I brought the boggart to my classroom and started my observations right away. I sent owl posts to a few of my close friends and asked them to come to participate in the experament.
Day two THE BOGGART AND SNAPE Today I got up very early in the morning and my friend Snape arrived shortly thereafter. I asked Snape to please stand in front of the closet where the boggart was and see what happened. All of a sudden as Snape looked at the closet the boggart took the shape of Lord Voldemort himself! He was coming after Snape with his wand outstretched and about to do the avada kedavra curse on him. Snape was shaking and sweating and a little stunned. He thrusted out his wand and yelled "Riddikulus!" at the creature. Voldemort vanished and the boggart soared back into the closet. "That was amazing!" I stated. Snape just gave me an evil look and stormed out of the door.
Day three THE BOGGART AND RON Awake again nice and early on the next day. My great friend Ron Weasley had just arrived. He was not too happy about doing this with the boggart as he has already had a bad experience with one before. I assured him that everything would be fine and not to worry. Ron stood in front of the closet and stared at the slightly opened door. Then it came out. A giant spider! Ron stood there mumbling and almost crying in fear. The boggart was not wasting any time doing what it does best. The spider was approaching Ron fast and almost touched him before Ron was able to get out his riddikulus charm. The spider began to tap dance and then went back into the closet. "Bloody hell!" Ron said outloud. "I gotta get going." I thanked Ron for his help and wrote my observations down in my boggart diary.
Day four THE BOGGART AND DRACO On the fourth day I invited my friend Draco Malfoy over to face the boggart. I asked Draco to stand in front of the closet and wait for the boggart to appear. He said the following, "I am not afraid of anything so the boggart will just stay in it's true state." He said this with a rather annoying smirk on his face. "We will see." I said to the boy. Just then a noise was heard coming from the closet. Draco looked a little surprised. All of a sudden I saw the strangest thing I ever thought I would see. The boggart had turned itself into none other than Hermione Granger! She had her fist clentched and was heading twards Draco screaming, "Call me a mudblood again Malfoy!" Draco screamed and ran around the room in horror. "Shout the riddikulus spell!" I yelled to him but he was too scared to speak. "Riddikulus!" I shouted while pointing my wand at the boggart, and the figure of Miss Granger flew back into the closet. "Draco, you need to fight this creature off if you ever encounter one. You can't just run from it!" Draco looked at me with an evil look and said, "If you tell anyone about this you will be hearing from my Father!" He left the room and slammed the door behind him.
Day five THE BOGGART AND LUCIUS On the fifth day of my observations I decided to try the boggart again myself. I was just getting ready to stand in front of the closet when there was a loud knock at my door. I opened the door and was surprised to see who it was. Lucius Malfoy was standing there looking quite angry. I told him to come into the room and he did. "Why did you risk my son's life for your stupid little experiment?" He asked through clentched teeth. "I did not risk his life." I said to him. "I asked him to participate and he agreed. Besides, his boggart turned into Miss Granger, which is not exactly what I call threatening by any means." Lucius stared at me and looked a little shocked. "Miss Granger? But Draco told me it was a.....Nevermind. Let me see this boggart." I told him to stand in front of the closet, which he did and this is what happened. The boggart came out and immediatly took the form of Voldemort yet again. He was heading twards Lucius with his wand out and tried to cast a curse at him. The curse missed and the Dark Lord spoke. "I know you have betrayed me. You are supposed to be one of my faithful followers." I looked over at Lucius. I was shocked to hear what I just heard. "Lucius...a deatheater?" I thought to myself. Lucius screamed riddikulus and Voldemort turned into a baby laying on the floor. Then it vanished again in the closet. Lucius looked at me with a very evil look about him. "If you tell anyone what you have just wittnessed I will have your job!" I told him I wouldn't tell and he left the room.
Day 6 THE BOGGART AND DUMBLEDORE On the sixth day of my observation I asked Dumbledore to come and help. He said he would be very happy to do so. He entered the room and immediatly went in front of the closet. The boggart came out and immediatly took on the shape of a giant bertie bott's every flavor jelly bean! "What the heck...?" I said outloud. Dumbledore lazily flicked his wand and shouted "Riddikulus" and the jelly bean changed into a chocolate frog and hopped into the closet. "What was that all about?" I asked the headmaster very confused. "You see." He told me. "Several years ago I was unfortunate enough to come across a vomit flavored bean. I have been afraid of them ever since." He bade me farewell and left the room. I stood there for several minutes with a very dazed and confused look on my face.
Day seven THE FINAL DAY I woke up on day seven and went right to the closet. I was shocked to see that the door was open! The boggart was gone! I franically look around the room and it was nowhere to be found. "Where could it have gone?" The boggart must have escaped. "Oh no, it is loose in the school! The students are in danger!" I ran as fast as I could down the hallway twards Dumbledore's office. Just then I heard a howl behind me. I turned around slowly to see what it was although I was afraid I already knew. Standing there was a huge werefolf with pointed fangs and the hair was standing up on the back of it's neck. It was heading straight for me. I reached my hand inside my robes and was shocked to find that I had not taken my wand with me. I was unarmed and there was no one in sight. "HELP" I screamed. I began to run but the werewolf was always right there behind me. Just then I heard a voice from up ahead. "Playing with animals at this ungodly hour of the morning?" It was Allistair Moody. "Help Moody. It's a boggart. It escaped on me and I left my wand in the classroom." Moody raised his wand and uttered riddikulus" The boggart turned into a silver orb and hung in midair. Then he waved his wand again and the orb vanished. It was gone. "Thanks!" I said to Moody. He smiled at me and growled. "Best not be playing with anymore dark creatures! Ya never know when there gonna turn on ya!" I agreed and went back to my classroom to record all the information in my diary and submit it for my classroom assignment for the Hogwarts Experience! | CASE STUDY OF A WEEK IN THE LIFE OF LETHIFOLD a.k.a LIVING SHROUD
Day 1 Today is the first day that I have caught sight of the rare Lethifold since arriving in Papua New Guinea two weeks ago. The subject was quite thick, almost a full 5 inches, it must have fed very well recently. Normally they are only have an inch thick. Never having seen on in real life, I was surprised to note how much it resembled a Dementor. I followed, at a safe distance, the subject to it’s lair- which is just a small clump of trees. There waiting were two smaller shades. I watched as the large Lethifold hovered over what I can only assume were its babies. Before my eyes the two smaller Lethifolds grew in size, while the original subject seemed to deflate to normal size. Not much is known on how Lethifolds reproduce, or if they are capable of reproduction. I believe that I have found proof that they are fully capable of reproduction, and of caring for their young. I stayed and watched the shrouds curl into each other, seeming to sleep, until I grew weary myself. I quietly made my way back to camp, as it is not wise to sleep near Lethifolds because that is when they are most likely to attack. Despite my deep exhaustion, sleep eluded me for hours. I can only wait with both excitement and dread for what tomorrow may bring.
Day 2 I returned to the Lethifolds lair midmorning. I sat sketching the shrouds for hours while they floated and played, looking like empty cloaks flapping on clotheslines. It appears that the smaller shrouds mimic the larger shrouds moves, a bit like a game of Simon Says. She is teaching them to hunt. A small island bird landed near their lair in the early evening hours. The adult Lethifold attacked, covering the bird entirely, suffocating the poor creature until it ceased movement. When it was dead the Lethifold drew back and I watched in fascinated horror as the two smaller shrouds descended on the bird, devouring it entirely. After they were done eating, the smaller shrouds once again folded and curled into one another, the larger shroud floating above them. She looked…hungry. Sleep will not come easy this night either, I fear.
Day 3 Today was much of the same, the small shrouds miming the movements of the large shroud. The Lethifold appears to be teaching her offspring to swoop down and cover objects, although thankfully there were no small birds around today. They did not feed at all today, and in fact the smaller shrouds still look quite full from their previous meals. This indicates that what we have long suspected is true, that the Lethifold do not need to eat often. I suspect that if the adult shroud had not fed the babies then it would still be full as well. She does not appear to be as content as days past, and I suspect that the urge to feed is growing in her, as she appears to be growing smaller by the hour. Perhaps she will feed tomorrow. After the Lethifolds settled in for the evening, I went back to camp and practiced Patronous Charms, the only known spell that is effective in fighting off a living shroud. I produced my Raven Patronous until I grew too tired to hold my wand up. I think I shall sleep better tonight now that I am prepared for an attack.
Day 4 I spoke to soon yesterday, and now I fear that it may be many long days before I am able to sleep again. I slept late, and after lunch I went in search of my shrouds. This time I watched as the small Lethifolds attacked and smothered a small bird on their own. I shuddered as they ate, for they leave nothing undigested, and the sounds…They are awful. But the worst was to come. Shortly before dusk the larger shroud left her babies, and I followed. The Lethifold went to my campground, even entering my tent, I fortunately was some distance away , hidden from sight. It moved from my camp to one less than a mile away. There were two muggles camping by the waterfall, and they were wide awake. The Lethifold waiting quietly for hours, as did I, for the men to fall asleep. She then moved to the larger muggle, his belly large from beer and fastfood-no doubt American. With a single, dark, graceful move, worthy of ballet, the shroud covered the muggle. He was deep asleep, and did not fight off the creature. I ran forward, ready to expose my self as a wizard, to cast a Patronous, but I was too late. The Lethifold was already digesting the poor muggle. I leaped back into shadow. This time I could not bear to hear the sounds, and I headed into the village where I shall rent a room tonight. The other muggle is safe, as the Lethifold rarely needs to feed twice in one night. I, however, am not taking my chances. I do not think I can sleep, but I do not want to be near the Lethifold this night.
Day 5 I kept my distance today. Another Lethifold joined my three today. Never before have there been any sightings of groups this large. I cannot bring myself to feel excitement, as the thought of more Lethifolds chills me. I was able to take pictures from my lookout. The newcomer is full grown like the original subject. Perhaps it is the male. The shroud did not linger long, and did not interact much with the small shrouds. I am unsure what the visit means. When the interloper left the remaining Lethifolds carried on with their day, following the moves of attack. The smaller shrouds are almost twice the size that they were when first I saw them. How much longer until they are full grown? Not long, I suspect, perhaps a few more weeks of training and they will be ready to make their own kills. I left early for my camp. The Lethifolds still look full.
Day 6 Today I witnessed the smaller Lethifolds make their first significant kill. A baby boar and its mother strayed into the lair. They made a fatal error in where to nap, for the smaller shrouds attacked the sleeping baby boar instantly. The attack did not have the same grace of the adult Lethifolds attack on the muggle, but it was still a fast and deadly attack. They mother boar was awakened by the noise, since her baby did not go quietly into that great night, and ran away shrieking, which is something I wish I could do. I took pictures, as there are none of the shroud eating. When I was done and they appeared to be settled, I went back into the village. I will no longer stay at camp since I cannot sleep so exposed to the Lethifold.
Day 7 The large Lethifold spent little time with the babies, as they do not seem to need her much anymore. They hunted completely on their own today, stuffing themselves do that they appear to be closer to balloons than cloaks. The time has come for me to leave. I have not slept fully in almost 5 days. I will not risk staying and putting my life in danger. I followed the adult Lethifold to another lair, where it joined the secong shroud that I saw yesterday. It is now clear that they are mates. I do not think she will return to her offspring, although she may. I will not return, the fear has taken over and I cannot be around the shrouds any longer.
