Severance

Is actually incredible. I saw it last night, and can I just say, wow.

The acting is beautifully done in it, the lighting superb, and every shot looks like it was just given a certain *something*. I don't know what, but it works so well.

SYNOPSIS:

On a "team building" exercise in Hungary, members of a sales group from Palisade, a defence firm with a murky past, end up stranded on a road in the middle of the forest. After a while they reach the lodge they were scheduled to stop in, but when things start to go horribly, horribly wrong the exercise becomes a struggle for survival against a ruthless enemy.

It's a British horror/survival film, but it has elements of black comedy that are so cleverly and subtly woven in that I found myself laughing out loud in some pretty sick parts. That being said, the suspense at the beginning is masterfully built up, to the point where you feel like you're going to explode if something doesn't happen soon. Then of course, everything explodes. The brutality of the breaking point and the ten minutes afterwards is truly phenomenal. It's a bit gory, but seriously, worth a butchers [scuse the pun].

Comparisons: Evil Dead meets Dog Soldiers meets I Know What You Did Last Summer meets Shaun of the Dead meets 28 Days Later.
