Cho Chang

I'm going to start my post by saying I don't like Cho. She's one of my least favourite 'non-evil' characters, for reasons which I'll explain below.

I think that Cho is nothing more than a well-developed plot device. She served the purpose of being Harry's first crush, and bringing the reality of Voldemort's return to Hogwarts by grieving for Cedric.

Now you may disagree with me when I say she's nothing more than a plot device - for a minor character she's had quite a large role as Harry's first 'girlfriend', but if you think about it, she hasn't done much else.

I don't know if as readers we're supposed to like Cho - she's always described as being very pretty (which might not endear the readers to her), she's given the illusion of being vain (by having a Swan as her patronus form), and there's the whole crying thing.

I'm not entirely sure if I've achieved anything with this post, but I guess what I want is for someone to counter what I've said - to try and convince me that Cho is more than a plot device, that she's a viable character.

I think that having a female grieve for Cedric has brought the seriousness of the situation further into the readers minds as females are known to be able to show their emotions more than males.

I think it shows that the war is happening to everyone. It affects everyone and isnt a dream. No, she doesnt have a major plot point anymore but she was interesting while she lasted.

I think yes, having a minor character feel so much grief does show that the war affects everyone

It was really a slap of reality for Harry becasue even after all he had been through, it showed that he wasnt the only one affect. I think somehow it motivated him

The thing Harry and Cho had flew bye. He quickly got over her after the
kiss. He became soon in love with Ginny, as Ginny wanted. Thats like it
about Cho, i felt bad that her bf died though!

yea, but I think she moved on, which showed Harry life goes on and you cant be stuck in the horrors of your past, to live in the day, and face the task at hand.

At first I really liked cho and thought that she would be Harry's happiness I wanted her to get over Cedric and then her and Harry could be fine. But towards the end of ootp I really disliked her she was not one of the great characters and in fact she annoyed me more than anything. I don't think that she will be in the book at all except like many other characters I think she might be mentioned in passing. I think her heart truly lies with Cedric and she sort of used Harry becuase he was there when Cedric died.

When she volunteered to take harry to the ravenclaw common room I was so happy that Ginny stepped in and asked Luna to take him. I think that she got over Cedric after all...

lol! yes katie i agree (again). Cho is soooo annoying! I laughed out loud when Ginny stepped in!

I think Cho is pretty but I really am not fond of her character, I agree with Cassie, she is very annoying

In my opinion, Cho Chang id just another interferor, like Lavendar Brown. She gets in the way of the true love of Harry and Ginny and she is also a bit of a moaning minnie.

She's just present to get in the way of things.

Scottish accents are cool Pickles....I really don't get why you don't like them...I think they are very different and that Scottish people are cool.....just not Cho Chang because she's mean.

I never liked Cho. She always annoyed me, like several people have said. I thought Harry could do much better than her. I agree about her being more of a plot device to make the grief of Voldemort's return more apparent and also just to add some romantic interest. But she never seemed strong or admirable to me...

I can't stand Cho. I find her horribly annoying. I also agree that she was just a plot device, and an important one at that, but she didn't have to be so blasted annoying.
