| Nasty little worm! I really dispise Peter as I am sure most people do. He is a wimp and in my opinon is even worse than Voldemort himself | |

| I hate him. I don't understand how anyone could betray their friends, and friends that were as good as James, Sirius and Peter seemed to be.
We know they must have been close because they did trust him enough to make him the secret keeper.
One thing I really hate is in Marauder-era fics when author's ignore him, pretend he doesn't exist, or make him a bed-wetting wimp. He was there, and he was friends with them. There must have been something to like about him during the school years.

| True, there must have been something though I cant personally see what. I dont think the films have helped with this because they make him seem even more of a wimp than the books do | |

| He was a little rat literally. He used James, Sirius, and Remus in the books ot learn how to be an animagus and to pass school,. I think he betrayed his friends becasue he was scared of Voldemort, which was a rotten thing to do. Why would he do that when he knew that the maurderes would protect him, and Dumbledore. | |

| I think that maybe he was forced into becoming a deatheater in a way of not being intellegent enough to know what he was doing. It is true to say that he used the other marauders to help him through school and to become an animagus but there is still the fact that they trusted him so there must have been some sort of friendship through school oposed to only an aquantence | |

| I think one of the best portrayal's of Peter is in Ajax's "From Across a Wizard's Heart" (I can't get the link at the moment, SQ is down).
The author portrayed him as a normal, teenage boy, no sinister thoughts, just having fun with his friends.
Which I think is realistic.

| Thinking about Peters intellegence or lack of, I want to bring in a few things that may or may not change your minds. Dont get me wrong, I dispise this character, though I believe that there is something more to him than a simple pathetic worm!
People have decribed him as the following:
“A stupid boy … foolish boy … he was always hopeless at dueling” -Professor McGonagal, page 154 PoA
“ a weak talentless thing….” -Sirius Black, page 271 PoA
“ … a poor wizard…” -Lord Voldemort, page 509 GoF
But let's take a look at his character in a different view.
Firstly, let’s examine the fact that Wormtail is an animagus. It has been discussed many a time in the books on how difficult becoming an animagus is, and yes, he did have his friends to aid him, though the magic has to come from within, so this shows that Peter has a significant amount of magic within him and can use it for complicated things.
Secondly, we need to consider Wormtail’s previous role as a spy. Wormtail acted as a spy for Voldemort for over a year before the betrayal of James & Lily. Through this we are able to see that Peter worked successfully as a spy, gaining information and passing it on to his master without getting caught, and we also know that Dumbledore and Snape are both adept in occulmancy and legitimacy and still his actions lay undetected! This again shows that Peter was not the 'weak talentless thing' everyone assumes of him.
Thirdly, let’s also look at the showdown between Wormtail and Sirius after Harry's parents are killed. As far as I can recall, Peter used the Avada Kedavra curse which kills many muggles as well as leaving a huge mess in the middle of the street. According to Moody and Dumbledore, this curse needs significant power behind it for it to work, therefore this shows that Peter is a much more powerful wizard than we originally thought.
There are many other significant points and mugglenet discusses this further, though even with these simple three points, it seems clear to me that there is so much more depth to Peter than most people think

| You have a lot of goo dpoints there... but did Peter use Avada Kevadra..? I thought he just blew it up..I do agree there is more depth, but I think he got away with being a spy becasue no one suspected him | |

I think he became an animagus only with the help of his friends. It's made clear that Sirius and James were the clever ones, and as it has been stressed so many times that Peter was not clever, James and Sirius probably pulled him through the animagus transformations in the early days. I agree with the point that he must have been good as a spy, but I think that he must have done a LOT of his spying as a rat, and therefore would have been undetectable through occlumency and legilimency. He didn't use Avada Kedavra on the street, he simply blew it up and in the process killed all the Muggles. The Muggle authorities passed it off as a gas explosion, so we have to assume that the effect was something akin to that. So yeah...I don't think he's powerful. I think he's a snivelling pathetic excuse for a Wizard :D

| As moronic and evil as they come. A true betrayer and a rat suits his character so well. How James and the others saw him while they were back in school is something that I would like to read about because he had to be good at one time for the marauders to trust him, but I just can't see this character ever being good. | |

| Although many people hate him I do too do not get me wrong I think he is utterly pathetic. I think that he will play an important part in the next book. I think he will help Harry some way and most likely repay he life debt even if it is not jumping in front of a curse more of telling Harry information that later gets him killed. Or telling him information that could kill voldemort. | |

| Some people say that they didn't like the way he died but I think it was fitting. He didn't deserve a heros death like Sirius or Dumbledore. It was his own mistakes that killed him and I didn't really feel any emotion when I read it besides shock. | |

| I would first like to say that agree completley with Katie's last post. He doesn't NOT deserve a heroic death.
Second: Pettigrew is a slimeball of the living who deserved to die as soon as he betrayed the Potters. Don't mean to sound harsh but he is a SLIMEBALL!
