Harry Potter’s Life and Loves

This essay leads off from the Divination class: Harry Potter, P/P/F.

Harry Potter is a much debated character. Is he good or evil? Will he die? Will he manage to defeat Voldemort? But perhaps the most and fiercest debate pertaining to Harry himself, is who does he love.

In my eyes, the answer is obvious: Ginny Weasley. Half Blood Prince gave us the canonical evidence we needed to see that she is Harry’s one true love.

Yet perhaps, in the name of fairness, it would do to take a look at the other women in Harry’s life, and try to give an unbiased assessment on their suitability for Harry, the character.

And so I shall gaze deep into my crystal ball, and look upon Harry’s future, if he were to end up with one of the other women in the story.

Firstly, I shall look upon his future with a certain Miss Granger. I see…I see…that they were married after Ginny and Ron Weasley died, and fell into the comfort of each other’s arms. I see that the first year of marriage was good, they were the best of friends and were always there to comfort each other should thoughts stray to the Weasley siblings they had loved and lost. But the later years of their marriage were shrouded in misery. Arguments and fights broke out, and it was not long before the marriage broke down, ending in divorce. Hermione had an affair with a certain Mr Malfoy Jr., and Harry was left, full of remorse and regret.

And now, I shall look at his future with Luna Lovegood. Oh dear…this future does not look happy…I see that after a drunken night out together they had a child out of wedlock, yet Harry felt obliged to take on the role of boyfriend. They did not marry, Luna not wanting to be tied down by such a farce. Their daughter grew up and as she did, Luna and Harry grew apart, until, one day, Miss Lovegood was out taking a walk and ran into the road, following the footprints of a crumple horned snorcack. Sadly, she died, and Harry was left as a single parent. Tragic.

And finally, I shall look into his future should he have married…wait…this is not clear…not possible at all…in this future, he married…McGonagall?? I believe the less said about that the better.

And so I shall leave it there, and after those three glimpses into Harry’s future, I’m sure you’ll agree Ginny is the best choice!
