Magical Holiday Empty
PostSubject: Magical Holiday   Magical Holiday EmptyTue Jan 16 2007, 12:08

Once again, time to be creative!

The world is filled with holidays. No matter what your religion is or where you come from, you will always find several to celebrate during all year long.

What I ask you today is to create a magical holiday!

Part one

Describe the said holiday; tell me why it was invented. Was it made in honour of someone? Or was it just because wizards wanted a bit more fun in their lives? What’s the date, the colours associated to that holiday, the setting, what are the celebrations during that holiday, be as detailed as possible!

A minimum of 350 words is required, and no more than 1,000.

This part is worth 40 points of the assignment.

Part two

Make a graphic representing this said holiday. Be sure to respect the informations you gave me, like if you said that this holiday was made in honour of a cat and you put the picture of a dog in your graphic than maybe you should reconsider it.

After making that graphic, explain to me why it’s representative of your created holiday.

This part is worth 10 points of the assignment (5 points for the graphic, 5 points for the description)

Have fun!

(Thanks to Amberg93 for that idea, 10 points has been awarded to her. She can still complete this class)

Albus Day

It's a sad thing to lose someone dear. Albus Dumbledore was a great wiazrd, he was feared by lord Voldemort himself! Many admired him for his unbelieve talents and courage and some never really trusted his judgement. But all in all Ambus Dumbledore was a good wizard.

Albus Day is a celebration in his name. The brilliant colors of perwinkle blue and white are put up in his honor and it falls on May 17. On this day each wizard house may fly the colors of blue and white as a symbol for the magical Holiday. In the morning a Memorial Service is held at the Grat Hall of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and wizardy. A set of nice dress robes should be worn, in order to be presentable. On this day Hogsmeade will be closed for the whole day. For any foul activity, aurors will set you under arrest for a limited time until allowed to be released. This Holiday is not a day for foolishness, but a day to remember Albus Dumbledore and all the great things he did and has done to make the Wizarding World a much better place.

International Quidditch Day

Come one and all to celebrate this world's wonderful sport and the people that play it. Explore it's darin history from the rocky beginning through to the surge that made it popular today! Maybe play a game yourself, or just root on your favorite team. Whichever you decide to do your sure to have a great time!

Invented, after the ball official changed to the golden snitch, this holiday has been a favorite of witched and wizards of all ages ever since. Who wouldn't enjoy an excuse to watch their favorite teams for free? Or get some pointers from professionals, who can help you improve on your hand-eye coordination. Action-packed this holiday includes, food, history lessons, flying lessons, broomstick trial rides, and of coarse, many games of quidditch! In the 1300's when the holiday was first invented, many people used it as a holiday to celebrate being able to legally play their games, but it wasn't established as an actual holiday until the 1500's. Every August 2nd, wizards everywhere gather for this brown and orange colored celebration. Don’t worry about untimely or uncomfortable travel. Mini-celebrations occur all over the quidditch playing world, but there are higher concentrated and more festive gatherings in Great Britain and Northern Ireland because of their great location and exceptionally clueless muggles. The actual celebration is held where the world cup was the previous year. Since it is such a major to do planning takes lots of time! Usually committee members plan festivals and parties 10 years in advance! Work with your country’s World Cup committee to better understand the role of these hardworking people and how you can help them!

I think this poster represents my holiday because it shows how important the snitch is, and how important flying is during these conventions. It shows its colors and really gets you excited to come to the partys!

Badger Dance Day!

This celebrated Holiday was invented after the great loss of the Hufflepuff Badger who had last been seen on the quiddictch pitch mocking one Mr Lucius Malfoy, the Badger was never seen after this day.

In order to keep Badger's memory a live the house members of past and present gathered for what was to be forever known as Hufflepuff Badger Dance day. In keeping with Badger's last will and testament, the Huffarians (members of Hufflepuff FYI!) flocked the large common room which had been decked out in house colours.

It was there that they sang the house song and danced the badger dance whilst watching clips of Badger on stage with the Hufflepuff band, catching the Snitch in Quidditch, selling house Gryffindors to Slytherins for a knut, breaking into the Professors lounge, playing with baby hippos and most importantly snogging Draco Malfoy.

Each year, since March 27th 1994, the Huffarians gather in the Hufflepuff common room and pay their respects to such an amazing Badger by sitting down together as a united house, eating a meal of hippos and chips with a side order of curry sauce (Badger's FAVORITE! dish) before they start pour themselves a large glass of firewhiskey and have a sing and dance before settling down to look through photo albums and old video clips/ home movies.

On top of the loyal Hufflepuff celebrations, witches and wizards around the world dress themselves up as Badgers and place a Death Eaters costume over themselves before taking to the sky on brooms. Generally the wizarding community does a lap of honour around their nearest Quidditch pitch before embarking in a fierce game of friendly Quidditch.

To mark the 10th anniversary people from all over the world gathered in London and attempted to make the worlds biggest humanly made badger outline by holding hands. This was marked as a World record in the muggle world since they had to be informed for it to become an actual record. After the muggles had left, a huge party began with bands, including the Weird Sisters, playing long into the night, it was at this party were Lucius Malfoy fell to his knees and bawled like a baby begging forgiveness for whatever his wand may have done to the lovely Badger. He was then hexed, jinxed and cursed by the Huffarians that were present before being carted off to Azkaban to serve 1001 life sentences.

Florean Day

We find ourselves 10 years after Harry has defeated Lord Voldemort. Many were killed, and thus many new holidays celebrating some of the best wizards who died fighting him have emerged.

One of these new holidays is "Florean Day" on the 21st of July. It was created after Florean Fortescue, the well-known Diagon Alley ice-cream seller, died when the Death Eaters invaded his ice-cream parlour on Lord Voldemorts order. They were sent to steal his magical spoon, the secret of all his creation, which was actually a horcrux. Valiant Florean fought to his death, refusing to give up making the wizarding world's best ice-cream. While trying to protect his spoon, he accidentally let it slip, fell onto it and broke it. As a result, the angry Death Eaters killed him.
Today, Florean Day is celebrated it style - it is the day when every wizard, young and old, indulges on masses of ice-cream - of course, using spoons made after the original Horcrux spoon. This has created a whole industry of selling "Florean Spoons" and each wizard/witch has his/her own, which he/she only uses on Florean Day. The offlcial colour of the day is pale pink - after Florean's favourite cherry ice-cream, which is also the most often eaten for Florean Day!

This is one of the many owlcards wizards sent each other at Florean Day. Its pale pink background, spoon and cherry ice-cream are representative for Florean Day!

Have A Fantastic Scamanewt Day!

Newt Scamander was well known while he was alive for his travels around the world searching for Fantastic beasts and documenting his finds. He lived a full life and died on his birthday, September 24 2003 while he was on holiday in Japan. Wizards from all over the world mourned his death, as many of his discoveries were so valuable to Wizarding Society. It is very seldom that a witch or wizard has not read at least one edition, if not all, of Newt Scamander’s excellent books. Therefore, wizards and witches from all over congregated three years after his death and decided to forever dedicate September 24th as Scamanewt Day, also known as Fantastic Beast Appreciation day.

On this day wizard children (and sometimes adults as well, especially if they are drunk on elf-made wine) dress up as Fantastic beasts. The best-selling costumes to date are the dragons, griffins, centaurs, trolls and unicorns. All sorts of parties are held. At the children’s parties cakes and cookies decorated with fantastic beasts are served. A favourite treat is ‘Centaur Cake,’ much to the centaur’s chagrin, and a favourite drink is the brightly blue-coloured ‘Berry Pixie Juice.’ At the adult parties wizards and witches indulge in exotic liquors laced with unicorn horn and rich wines with tiny flakes of leprechaun gold scattered in them. Unique dishes include chicken flavoured with authentic dragon spine, Fwooper egg omelets, and Fantastic fish caviar. (In fact, the hosts of a particular party were once obligated to pay a heavy fine because they insisted the caviar they were enjoying was Shrake, when it was actually illegal Ramora caviar from the protected Ramora species.)

This day is always a bright, colourful and happy day. Witches and wizards sometimes go on holiday to view creatures in their natural habitats, be they dragon reservations or the jungles of Brazil.

The intelligent Fantastic Beasts have mixed views about this day. Some, like the centaurs, solidly ignore it. They frown and claim that they discovered wizards before wizards discovered them. But other creatures, like the Merpeople, are delighted that they are recognized and appreciated. In some parts of Europe Merpeople will give free tours of their underwater villages on Scamanewt Day, which are said to be enjoyable for both adults and children, as long as the proper underwater safety measures are performed.

Magical Holiday Berryjuicefo5

This is a sign hanging from the cart of a street seller, designed to coax knuts from wizarding pockets when their children beg for the colorful drink. (It represents the moneymaking side of this holiday XD)

PostSubject: Re: Magical Holiday   Magical Holiday EmptySun Feb 04 2007, 23:05

Every May 22nd, we gather to celebrate St. Rosalind Day. St. Rosalind, the patron saint of witches and wizards, was born on May 22, 1377. Her given name at birth was Rosalind Dorthea Broomkeeper. The seventh daughter of a seventh son, her birth was at first considered a miracle. Unfortunately for the Broomkeepers, their family was to be thrust into scandal when a broom that her father had built was used to beat King Horace to death by his evil, aspiring nephew, Draconius. Draconius was named King and claimed that the broomstick has been bewitched by Rosalind's father, Joseph Broomkeeper. The entire family was condemned to death, but managed to flee anonymously to another kingdom.
While most members of the Broomkeeper family were Muggles, Rosalind most certainly was a Witch. Early accounts have her charming snakes, and she is perhaps the first know female Parsal Tongue. Unable to keep a low profile with snakes following them everywhere they went, Joseph Broomkeeper and Rosalind's mother, Rowena, sadly kicked their daughter out of the house at the tender age of 15. Rosalind made her way through Europe, snakes in tow, before settling in the quiet Scottish village of Gretna Fife. There she dropped her surname so to keep herself and her family safe from Draconius, who was still searching the Broomkeeper family in order to defend his title of King from his own aspiring nephew, Johannas. She also learned to keep a lower profile with her snakes, as they tended to make Muggles uneasy.
While in Gretna Fife, Rosalind made many early discoveries in the art of Magical Healing. She developed the first anti-itch powder, as scratchy woolen clothes plagued the townspeople who raised fine sheep but lacked fine wool makers. She was careful not to reveal her magical powers, often claiming to mysteriosly "find" helpful items. Since most Muggles are amazingly non-observant she was able to get along fine. Rosalind also created a spell still in use today. When she found that her new husband, Muggle shepherd Ogilvie MacDougall, snored loud enough to wake the neighbors she created the Sound Bubble spell. When done properly, the bubble can be placed around an object for up to eight hours. No sound can escape while encased in the Sound Bubble and no sounds can enter the bubble. She and her husband were the best rested couple in all of Scotland. Rosalind gave birth to just one child, a daughter Lila, whom she passed on all her secrets.
By all accounts Rosalind lived to be 70 years old. She is believed to have died on her 70th birthday, but no body was ever laid to rest. Lila MacDougall claims that her mother caught a ride with a pegasus and that was that last that was seen on Rosalind. It seems unlikely since no pegasus are known to have still been in existence in Europe during 1447. She was official made the patron saint of witches and wizards on May 22, 1777, by Minister of Magic, Aaron Jameson. Every year on the anniversary of her birth and her death, witches and wizards are seen taking to the skies in their brooms. Many claims to see large gatherings of snakes, but this is unconfirmed at this time.
The official banner of the holiday is a snake and broomstick against backdrop of blue, believed to have been St. Rosalind's favorite colour.

Happy Ghost Day!

Ghost Day was invented by Lord G.M. MacGreggor. He was born on December 3 1723 in London England. He was part of the Ministry of Magic and was killed in a freak accident involving dissappering Muggles in 1799. He became a ghost and can be found drifting around the London Underground. One day, he decided that ghosts were underappreciated. So he gathered some ghosts and protested to the Minister of Magic, who at the time did not agree with the idea of making a holiday just for ghosts. MacGreggor brought the idea to Albus Dumbledore in 1983, and Dumbledore agreed with him all the way. A new Minister of Magic came into the office, and Dumbledore brought the idea to him, and eventually the Minister agreed to make every December 3rd Ghost Day.
Not many witches or wizards celebrate Ghost Day, but the few that do celebrate it by throwing large parties with some of their ghost friends. On this day, Ghosts are allowed to roam wherever they please. That is one reason the Minister Of Magic was so hesitant to agree to this holiday. The Ministry works over time to make sure no Muggles spot the careless ghosts.
There are not any set colors for this holiday, since it is mostly celebrated by ghosts who can't really wear those colors. But the witches and wizards who celebrate are usually found wearing gray, navy blue, black, and/or white.
At Hogwarts, and select other magical schools, they celebrate Ghost Day by letting the ghosts (including Peeves) enter classrooms during class, and even go into the dorms. Many of the professors disagree with this holiday and are very moody on December 3.

^^ many children draw pictures like these to celebrate Ghost Day. The blue thing is a cloud, because most people/ ghosts celebrate at night and December 3 is always a cloudy night(this is because the Ministry thinks clouds make it harder for Muggles to see the Ghosts)

Part one

Myrddin Day

Every September 3, the wizarding world celebrates Myddin Day in honour of the famous Myrddin, also known as Merlin. Merlin was the son of a nun of royal birth and a mighty wizard, born in the town of Carmarthen. He oversees the conception of Arthur, creates the symbolism of the Round Table, and prepares Perceval for the Grail quest. He is celebrated for is contributions to the wizarding world and his tries at uniting the muggle world with the wizard world. Though his efforts were good, overall his attempts failed. Now in the muggle world he is but a character of fantasy. Now every September 3rd, streets are decorated with silver stars and blue trimmings and several parades are held in his honor.
