| I was thinking, today that the world on the whole is NOT green. We are not eco-friendly.
I want to scold those of you who throw paper in the bin, drive to work five minutes down the road, leave the tap on while washing up, leave the lights on in the house becasue you are coming back in ten minutes, etc.
THIS IS NOT GOOD!
The planet is not a freebie and sooner or later, we are going to suffer the consequences of our actions! As a stat, USA is the most 'gas-guzzling' nation in the world and I'm sure many of the other European countries aren't far behind...no offence meant to anyone.
Please post here so that more people are made aware of this global, serious problem!
To get you started,
I recycle paper, glass, old clothes, and cardboard. I also walk to the corner shops or take a bike, unless it's dark and dangerous. I turn off all lights as I leave the room and we use tube lights, a more efficient, just as bright version of the light bulb.
Did you know that a light bulb is about 10% light and 90% heat and other energies?
Did you know that boiling a kettle uses more than 0.1 kWhrs? That is 36,000 joules per second! (in britain only I think, if my calculations are right and they should be!)

| Yep, and that boiling of the kettle costs.... 1 pence? But no, I completely agree with everything that WL is saying... although she is DRIVEN to the Subway which is 15 minutes walk away from school......... :D Okay, all this energy-wasting is really not good. Carbon dioxide emissions have risen loads in the past few years, simply because of everything WL said. So agree with her. And help to save the planet! Small islands could be gone in the next 20 years if something isn't done about the amount of carbon dioxide getting out into the atmosphere... and that means no Hong Kong, and that'd just kill me!!!! Save HK, people!!!! | |

SAVE THE PLANET!!!
but we need to get EVERYONE's attention on this...
it's a very serious problem, people...
and, yes, hong kong could be gone in 20 years... and other islands as well... Portugal would be reduced to half, and coasts would disapear...
well, a lot of BAD stuff would happen...

Since i have two peopl who agree, I think I will make some sort of...i dunno...maybe a poll to create more awareness. Did you know that there is a multi BILLION dollor project in Dubai to build a megastructure out at sea? If water levels rise anymore...then...what a colossal waste of money! Save the POLAR BEARS! and other creatures who are going to be driven to extinction becasue of other reason apart from water levels. :albino: :rendeer:

You know, I think most things are pretty useless. I mean, we can live without all those things that are of no particular use except for luxury. For example, iPods. I'm being totally hypocritical because I love my iPod, but I had an mp3 player before that, and that does exactly the same job, so where's the point in creating more merchandise that's just wasting our planet's resources??!
It's stupid, really...

| One more thing I just wanted to add is that I think that people shouldn't polute the oceans.Lots of animals die cuz of toxics(sp) in the water. There's a park nearby here and they closed the swimming area because of the problems with dumping waist into the water. Man that sucks cuz who wants to swim in the same water people pee in gross The poor earth has to deal with such things and man who knows what would happen if the spirit woke up and attacked the human race? We'd all be in trouble. I am against oil drilling too. Oil spills happen too much and nobody should touch the rain forest. Duude I 'm getting emotional. Need to go to another post. I mean if I ruled the world there wouldn't be pollutions this bad. And I would make laws that you guys wouldn't believe ~evil smirk~ Oh and for the record I Mother Earth Jesse | |

| One day, you're gonna run out of things to say, Jesse. Polluting the waters is one of the worst things. Even throwing rubbish in the seas kills animals... I mean, water animals, like seals, or baby seals, they can get caught up in those plastic beer-packs that get chucked into the sea. And then they die! The rainforests too. Stupid forestting and cutting down trees that could save lives. Grr those people. | |

Yes, that was what I was talking about, WL. For very obvious reasons I can actually see you saying that.
Mother Earth is a beautiful thing. Well, it would be in certain places if the so called leaders of this world would do something about it. Now, I'm not openly criticising the way the world is run, but if that Bush guy who calls himself a Christian (Yes, you know, because Christians soooooo send people to their deaths...[yes, that's called sarcasm]) doesn't do something about the amount of pollution his country is giving off, we're all gonna die sooner rather than later.
And I want to be safe in saying, I have absolutely nothing against Americans. Well, maybe 'cept Bush.

Also, the safety of the world doesn't have to be national. If each and everyone of use does something to help, then the world will have a difference in it already.

No, the safety of the world doesn't have to be international. But for the world to not die, the biggest country, who gives off the most pollution, has to do something about it, because all the other countries put together probably aren't as bad.

Back to the topic, I think that everything needs to be made biodegradeable. And quickly. Because then, we'd have more space in the Earth to store stuff that we possible don't need anymore, and there would be less carbon doixide being given off because of those microbes respiring and whatnot and then we'd have more oxygen because the world would be full of plants and friken hell I'm rambling.

if things were biodegradable then there would also be space for farms instead of rubbish tips. You could feed so many people from a third world country if there were more farms and less space for cattle...which are used in burgers that that are unbelievably unhealthy anyway.

THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT ALL THIS STUFF! Actually, we could help out, but that'd have to be the whole nation, and hey, we're a nation of litterers. Now, if we lived in JAPAN, we'd be quite eco-friendly, and actually wouldn't need to worry about littler because there's none of it. Nice speckly whilte tiles. I mean sparkly. Not speckly. You know, I think the governments are trying (without much success) to do something about it all, but apparently, there are more important things to be worrying about. What, I don't know. Terrorism, maybe. But that's off the point.
Most of it comes down to individual participation, methinks. I mean, sure, the government can pass laws (which they've tried), but seriously, have you seen people litter still? Yesterday I saw a guy putting a beer can on a windowsill after drinking it. That could be happening anywhere at the same time, and plus, government money would be saved because they wouldn't need to pay people to pick up any litter!

Don't Drop Litter...Put it in the bin! Don't drop Litter...Put it in the bin! If you ever drop litter...you have to put it in the bin. So just Don't drop litter...Put it in the bin!!!
He was like four so he learnt from an early age. If only everyone did that...and I think governments should do more about environment.
Terrorists are sad, sad people who never got chocolate cake on their birthdays. That's why you just have to throw cake at them and they'll stop terrorising...hopefully...but that's my little view.
