Backstage - The Techies

Theatre's not just all about the acting - behind the scenes, A LOT goes on to make sure that everything is running perfectly, that people are in their places when they should be, that props are on and off in time and as quickly as possible... the list goes on!

I'm about to be a stage manager for the second time in 3 months. It's all relatively new to me though - it'll only be my third time working backstage in a production.

Is anyone out there more into the tech part of theatre rather than the performance?

I did the lighting for a school play of Joseph once, though its not really my thing. Im all thumbs!

I've been Stage co-ordinator once, in a panto version of Aladdin...

i'm more into acting, i want to major in theater, but i also love the technical aspects of theater too! my theater class at school is more like a theater company. the advanced students, in addition to acting in plays, must also complete tech projects, which range from stage managing, building/painting sets, hanging lights, doing sound, video taping plays, costumes, make-up, hair and more. we also run the front of house business too! we are in charge of ordering merchandise (we have our own merchandise XD),food and drinks for intermission, running the store, concessions, and box office, being front of house manager, and so on. our teachers just sort of oversee and give advice if we're confused.

i've helped design lights, i've worked as a backstage manager, i've helped on a bunch of sets and i've helped with box office and hanging lights...all around the program is GREAT at preparing you for theater in the real world! i love it all! XD

I guess I'm not really considered a "techie" but I'm in the pit for the middle and high school plays....so I guess we're still in the backstage group. (:

This is for a one act coming up at a local theatre. I've been super sick lately so I couldn't actually perform but they basically just put me in charge of everything else.
