| Well I guess we'll start with the very basics:
One rule in french is that you don't pronounce the T's D's and S's at the end or middle of the word.
Bonjour-Hello (formal or informal) Salut-Hello (informal) Comment ca-va?-How are you?(informal) Comment tallez vous?-How are you?-(formal) J'ai-I am bien-good pas mal-not bad mauvais-terrible et tu?-and you (informal) et vous?-and you (formal) Je'mepple-My name is or I am called Tu t'apple comment-What is your name (informal) Salut-Goodbye (informal) Au revoir-see you later
With French you have formal and informal ways of saying things like other foreign languages. The formal way to say things you use the "Vous" form and for informal you use the "Tu" form. I will teach you guys how to
conjugate the different verbs probably in the next few lessons. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

J'ai voudrais-I would like... S'il vous plait-please (formal) J'ai Prends-I want
Restaurant Foods:
les frites-French fries un salad-salad un hamburger-hamburger un croque monsieur-ham and cheese les escargot-snails un coca-cola de l'eau au mineral-mineral water un cafe- coffee
How to ask how much c'est fait combien?-how much is it
if you have any questions feel free to ask and i'll post the next lesson soon.

| Hey, I just wanted to make a few corrections There aren't many mistakes but just rectify the few there are - Quote :
- Comment tallez vous?-How are you?-(formal)
That might just be a typo, but it's "Comment allez vous", not Comment tallez vous - Quote :
- J'ai-I am
"J'ai is actually I have, not I am. I am would be "Je suis" - Quote :
- et tu?-and you (informal)
The correct term for "And you" would be Et toi, though "tu" is also used to say "you" in french, just not for that term, so it wasn't all wrong - Quote :
- Je'mepple-My name is or I am called
Might be typo again, but the correct term is Je m'appelle - Quote :
- Tu t'apple comment-What is your name (informal)
Once again, possibly typo. Tu t'appelles comment? is the way it's written - Quote :
- J'ai voudrais-I would like...
This one is Je voudrais. "Je" is "I". When saying "J'ai", it means "I have", like I mentionned earlier - Quote :
- J'ai Prends-I want
"I want" is actually Je veux. The verb "Prendre" is actually "To take", so to use that verb when ordering some food, you would have to sais "Je vais prendre" which is "I will take". It can also be used for telling someone later on what someone has taken by saying "J'ai pris" which is "I took" Now for the food, it's mostly the 'Les' and 'des' problem, which is normal. Both are words used, but 'les' is more to show something, like for example "Regarde les chandails" which is "Look at those shirts". 'Des' would used in a context like in this case, ordering food. So "Les frites" becomes "Des frites" when asking for it. The complete sentence would be "Je voudrais des frites". Same goes for "Des escargots" instead of "Les escargots". Another particularity in french is that we have genders for every word. Salad, (which is 'Salade' in french) for example, is a feminine word. So it would be "Une salade" instead of "un salad". Some words can be used both in the feminine and masculine form when they are adjectives, but nouns only have one gender. And, while in English you'll mostly use 'the' in front of a word, we also have feminine and masculine for that. The easiest example is 'Il' and 'Elle' which are 'He' and 'She'. Also, 'Un', which is masculine, will become 'Une' in the feminine form. Un -> Une Le -> La Son -> Sa Another small mistake - Quote :
- de l'eau au mineral-mineral water
It's "De l'eau minérale", not 'De l'eau au minéral'. Trust me, you wouldn't want to drink that XD And the last one - Quote :
- c'est fait combien?-how much is it
It's actually " C'est combien? and not 'C'est fait combien?'. The verb 'Faire' is 'To do'. So that's pretty much it lol

| lol Babel fish wasn't exactly right indeed XD but there are a few mistakes in your sentences
It would be 'J'adore jouer au basket' instead of 'J'adore joue le basket'
Then, it's 'J'aime lire' instead of 'J'aime le lire', since the word 'to' when you say like 'to read' in english doesn't exist in french. The verb just comes after the subject.
and then I'm not sure if what you meant is 'I don't like foot'? because if that's it, the correct way of saying it is 'Je n'aime pas le foot'.

I'm Bi-lingual, French and English, so if you have any questions at all concerning french, then I'll try my best to answer them.

| Is there anyone who might be able to help me with some basic phrases I might need for working at a hotel? I from time to time have French speaking guests; I think it's our close proximity to Quebec. I have a super small amount of French. It's kind of funny, though, because I will say, "Ici," when they ask where to sign, or say "merci," and then they'll always without fail start speaking in rapid French to me and I panic.
Anyway, if anyone is able and willing to help, pronunciations would be good too. If you happen to know IPA, I for the most part understand that. Just let me know.

| I would like to learn some very specific phrases for work. We have quite a few French speaking guests.
"My French is very limited." "What is your name?" "What is your address?" "What is your phone number?" "Would you like smoking or non smoking?" "Would you like one bed or two?" "May I see the method of payment you would like to use?" "Please sign here at the bottom." "This is your room number. You are on the [ground, 1st, 2nd, 3rd] floor." "The elevator is down this hall." "Enjoy your stay."
It would just faciliate things a lot better if I could learn these commonly to always used phrases.

| Well, in order:
"Mon français est très limitĂ©." "Quel est votre nom?" "Quel est votre address?" "Quel est votre numero de tĂ©lĂ©phone?" "DĂ©siriez-vous [...] fumeur ou non-fumeur?" (here, you need a noun. For example, if your talking about a table, just insert 'une table') "DĂ©siriez-vous un lit ou deux?" "Puis-je voir votre method de paiement?" (I'm not sure if this is the correct way of saying it, but they should get the gist.) "Signez ici, s'il vous plaĂ®t, en bas de la feuille." "Ceci est le numero de votre chambre. Vous Ăªtes sur le [rez-de-chaussĂ©] / [première/deuxième/troisième] Ă©tage." "L'ascenceur (sp) est par lĂ .' (Not sure how to say 'down this hall', so I replaced it with 'over there'.)
Hope this is okay... | |
