| Defense Against Dark Arts Teacher ApplicationI want you to make up a character to apply for the role of Defense Against Dark Arts teacher. The character you create should be a new one, not someone already known from the books. Part One: Write a letter to McGonagall detailing your qualifications for DADA Professor and introducing yourself to the new headmistress. The more detail you give the more points you can earn. You can list your education background and previous jobs, but since this is a personal letter to McGonagall you have more room to be imaginative. Points: 90Part Two: Find an actor or actress to play your character and post their picture, explaining why they would be perfect for the role. Points: 10Good luck on your applications! The best student will get an award point plus their name in the Hall of Fame and the house with most students taking part will get 100 points at the end of every term.[/b] Good Work everyone. Raistlin The Wizard, DADA Professor. | |

| Dear Minerva McGonagall, My name is Andrasta Williams and I am writing to apply for the vacant post of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. I believe that I would be a good person to fill the post because I received 11 NEWT's achieving an Outstanding in 7 of them and I passed every subject in my OWLs. Perhaps you remember me, Minerva. I was a first year Gryffindor in the 12th year of your teaching career, if I remember correctly. After graduation from Hogwarts, I became an auror. After being an auror for three years, I taught Defense Against the Dark Arts at the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic for five years while perfecting my French. So now I am here, Minerva, applying for the DADA position at Hogwarts. Forgive me for being sentimental, but if you grant me the post, it will be like going home after a very very long field trip; full circle. Enclosed in this letter are recommendations from Rufus Scrimgeour as previous head of the Auror Department at the Ministry of Magic and from Madame Olympe Maxime, Headmistress of Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. And last but not least, I am a member of France's branch of the Order of the Phoenix. So also enclosed is a letter from the Head of our branch here: Monsieur Maunier. On another note, I offer my condolences on what happened the previous school year. Professor Dumbledore always seemed to be like a grandfather to all us students and I recall asking after my Sorting, "Is he off his rocker?". I know that you were much closer to him than I was Minerva, but it seems that the whole world will miss him... if they have hearts, that is. Heavens knows I wore wool socks for a week after that. Oh dear, it seems that I'm getting off topic. Anyway Minerva, I feel that I'd make a good DADA professor because of my name. Of course that's not 100% my reason, but it's part of it. My first name, Andrasta, is a romanticized version of Andraste who was a warrior goddess and the goddess of victory for the people who worshiped her. Also, "Andraste" is thought to mean "The invincible one" and "She who has not fallen." Also, my last name, Williams, means "The defense of many". Minerva, I would lay down my life for Hogwarts's students which is why I believe that I should teach DADA there. I hope to receive your reply soon. Yours Sincerely, Andrasta Williams P.S. Fawkes Part Two: I chose Kate Winslet to portray Andrasta Williams because she's one of my favorite actresses, and I believe that she is a great one.

| Dear Head Mistress McGonagall, It has come to my attention that there is an opening for a new Defense of the Dark Arts pofessor. I can't express enough how much interest in this postion I have. This position would give me such a sense of accomplishment, not only will I be the one who helps the future generations learn to protect themselves from the evil that is unfortunately in this world, but it will give me the honor of returning to my old stomping grounds. When I first recieved my letter accepting me to Hogwarts as a child, I was frantic with excitement. I knew that I would be able to make a difference in the world. I was like a sponge, I learned as much as I could and was always looking to seek more. My seven years at Hogwarts will never be forgotten and now seeing the possibility of working there puts a smile on my face that hasn't been there in such a long while. I know you will choose your professors wisely so I guess I should tell you a bit about what I've been doing since my graduation. My name is Dilios Anderson, and I am a retired Order member. As soon as I graduated I immediately went to the Ministry of Magic and signed on to become an Auror. But being at such a young age and inexperienced in the wizarding world I was put into the role of an apprentice. Three years I spent at the Ministry as an apprentice learning and constantly building my knowledge of what it takes to become an Auror. Finally at the age of twenty I was given the task to find and capture a known Death Eater. I admit I was a bit afraid seeing as this was my first mission as a protector of the innocent. Her name was Lynn Davenport, a low ranking Death Eater freshly recruited. When I heard this name I was shocked beyond belief for she was a classmate of mine at Hogwarts. Such a sweet girl I thought of her, but it seemed I was sadly mistaken. I sat aside my thoughts of her and immediately began my investigation of her whereabouts. It took only a few days to track her for she was a bit sloppy in her dealings and didn't cover her tracks very well. I found her alone one evening making her way back to the Death Eater camp. I will never forget that night for my inexperience nearly cost me my life. I managed to incapacitate her, though the battle left me scarred. Once she was put into Azkaban prison I knew my purpose was noble and worthy of my sacrifice. I never doubted myself again after that. Four years of Auror work later it seemed that our cause was in vain. I knew better of course for the many Death Eaters sent away was worth it, but I always felt that we could do more. I then decided to leave the Ministry when I heard of an orginization calling themselves The Order Of The Phoenix. It seemed this group were the ones taking the fight to the Death Eaters. I immediately sent an owl expressing my interest in joining thier ranks. Almost instantly I was welcomed, and I began my quest to rid this world of He Who Must Not Be Named. I was sent into the very trenches of battle as a Spy. I worked with Voldemort under the alias of Cory Davenport, the unknown brother of Lynn Davenport. I was accepted into their ranks as a trusted accomplice. My distaste of these Death Eaters grew into an even more disgusted feeling. But I maintained my composure. My work led to many of the top Death Eaters capture and I couldn't have been more pleased. The only thing that would have brought more satisfaction was the destruction of Voldemort himself. During the end of my work I somehow was discovered and had to flee. I have managed to evade those that search for me. But this life is not for me, I wish to be a part of something. So I am writing this letter in hopes of you accepting me as the new Defense of the Dark Arts Professor. Nothing would give me more honor than to help future Aurors and Ministry workers learn to protect themselves from the dark forces. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you for the time. Sincerely Yours, Dilios Anderson I chose Jack Nicholson to play Dilios because I have never seen an actor play any role better than him. He is in my opinion the greatest actor alive right now. He can play a good guy extremely well and he can play a bad guy just as good. Which would suit my character perfectly since he would be going into the Death Eaters as a Spy for the Order. His ability as an actor seems limitless. | |

| Dear Professor McGonagall, It has come to my attention that you are currently seeking a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. After inquiring about the post further, I have come to the conclusion, that I would be perfect for it. Please give me the time to explain my most attractive qualities and what I can offer your school. I am sure I can offer a wonderful, and informative year for your students. It is important to have a well informed and educated teacher for your school. I am sure you will be happy to know, that I attended Salem Witches Academy in Boston Massachusetts, America for three years. This is a wonderful top-grade primary witches school for witches in America. Then, my family relocated to France, where I attended Beauxbatoms Academy for the remaining four years of primary education. During my time there, I took the OWLS and NEWTS and got the top-grades in Defense Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, Charms, and Potions. Later, I moved to England with my husband of three years, where we both trained to become Aurors. I am currently in my second year of Auror training, and am willing to take a break form that to join your school. I am a certified teacher for Salem Witches Academy, which I taught at as soon as a graduated Beauxbatoms. I am sure that the headmistress, Madam Maxime will be more then happy to give you references. I have many fun, fulfilling, and educational lessons plans to do with all of my future classes. I feel a personal duty to serve Hogwarts, after what happened at the end of last year. I have met Professor Dumbledore on several occasions and he was extremely dedicated to this school. I feel such loss in my heart, and I am sure your students do too. I hope that during the coarse of the year we can help each other heal those wounds, so we can come to accept and move on that tragedy. I will always stress, that education is extremely important to leading a fulfilling and successful life. And I am sure you and Professor Dumbledore would agree with that statement. Finally, I would like to personally extend my condolences, to you and your staff, and I am willing to help in anyway possible to get the school running again, even if I am not awarded this post. I mean this from the bottom of my heart. Sincerely, Kaelyn Ashleigh Dugan I choose Reese Witherspoon becasue she is very pretty, and humourous, yet she can be serous. I think she owuld make a great Kaelyn Ashleigh. | |

| Dear Headmistress Minerva McGonagall, I have heard mention you require a new Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor after the events of last year at the school. My name is Katherine Brydon. You may remember me from when I attended Hogwarts about twenty years ago and from my attendance at meetings of the Order of the Phoenix. I was a Gryffindor and top of my class. I did exceedingly well on my N.E.W.T.s and O.W.L.s, especially for Defense Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, Charms, and Potions, which is one reason I became an Auror after I finished my school years at Hogwarts. If you remember, I was always fascinated with the Defense Against the Dark Arts class and it was you who told me I had a real knack for the stuff learned in the class. I would like to apply for this position because I love the subject and would love to teach what I know to the next generation of students at the school that taught me what I know. I do have some teaching experience under my belt as an assistant professor to Professor André line at Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. I think my experience as an Auror and as a member of the Order will help teach the students what to expect from those who practice the dark arts and how to protect themselves from them. After what happened last year, I think the students need someone to teach them how to better defend themselves, especially if You-Know-Who gets any stronger and I think I am that person who can help teach them. Enclosed with this letter are two recommendations by Rufus Scrimgeour, Minister of Magic and previous Head of Aurors, and Marietta André line, Defense Against the Dark Arts professor Beauxbatons. Both of these people have been very kind to me and have taught me much of what I know now that I hadn’t learned in my years at Hogwarts that I believe the students of now should learn. I hope you take my application into consideration. Sincerely yours, Katherine Brydon P.S. I offer my condolences on what happened last school year. Professor Dumbledore was a great man and a dear friend to us all in the Order and at Hogwarts. Words can not describe how absolutely wonderful he was and I know you where closer to him than the rest of us. --------------------------------------------------- I chose Catherine Zeta-Jones because she seems like the kind of actress who can play a gentle and kind, yet strict, DADA professor. Plus I think she is a great actress. | |

| Dear Headmistress McGonagall: My name is Ms. Amber Gruzynski, and I would like to apply for the job of Defence Against The Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I feel I would be great for this position because I am fair, and I have fun ways of getting the point through their thick inconsiterate little- I mean, expressing my knowledge toward the children. I love children, especially medium-well with a little- I mean, they are great to work with. My expierience with this position is that I fought alongside Mr. Gilderoy Lockhart in his brave crusades against evil. Please consider this, I really need the Galleons- I mean, the children really need my knowledge and expierience. Sincerely, Amber Gruzynski PS- Do you happen to own any Gas Chambers? ______________________________________________________________ (I hope you don't mean celebrity actresses, because I know an actress who would do great on this character. And yes, I got her pemission to post her picture.) The actress I chose was Mary-Beth Melvin, because she is an amazing actress. She has played multiple roles, but she plays roles like this (evil, diabolical and twisted into pleasantness but icy kind of roles) very very well . She would make an AMAZING Professor Gruzynski. | |

| Dear Headmistress McGonagall,
I have just recently learned about the Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor opening and I wanted to let you know that I am interested in the position. My name is Sariah Ellador Rimbaur, I am twenty seven years old and am a graduate of Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I have included a copy of my N.E.W.T. results with this letter. As you will see I had received top marks in both Transfiguration and Charms.
Upon completing my magical education, I went on to get a job with the Ministry of Magic, in the accidental magic reversal squad department. I have currently been employed there coming up on ten years. In my position there and with the experiences I have come to acquire while out in the field of my work I have had many encounters with both harmless types of accidental magic, spells either cast wrong, the words slightly reversed or not said properly, or that were not directly hit in the exact location, and also much darker spells, such as people being hit with unforgivables, but not directly hit, or hit with more than one spell at once causing some pretty severe, and sometimes fatal consequences. I myself, after working in this field so long can almost recognize exactly what spells were used on the one in need of my care immediately and almost always know the exact actions I need to take. If for some reason I do not know right away what spells have caused their effects, I work endlessly until I know what it was that has caused them to be in the state that they are. I work closely with the Healers at Saint Mungo’s and also with several Aurors, who call upon me often when they experience said accidental magic symptoms when they arrive at scenes they have been called to.
I feel that I would be an excellent candidate for this position as I have had a lot of experience with the darker forms of magic, and have experience in reversing the effects of it. I would love to be able to teach the younger witches and wizards in our society how to protect themselves from the Dark Arts, especially in times like these where it is so imperative that we do so. If I am considered for the position and then receive it, I can guarantee that I will put my best efforts into teaching the students all that they need to know and to prepare them as good as I can for once they enter our adult society.
I would like to thank you in advance for reviewing this letter and considering me for this most exciting position. I look forward to hearing back from you.
Sincerely, Sariah Ellador Rimbaur
Sariah Ellador Rimbaur :::I chose Keira Knightly as my person because she is one of my favorite actresses. She also takes on strong roles when filming and does a great job with them. She is also close to the age that I had my applicant be:::

| Part oneDear Professor Minerva McGonagall, I am writing a letter to say I, Polly Swindail, would like to apply for the job of Defence against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I believe that I would make an excellent contribution to the school having past experience of Hogwarts and knowing the school like the back of my hand. At a young age my father Stephen Swindail, junior assistant to the minister of magic, tutored me in several subjects one of which was Defence against the Dark Arts. At the age of 11 I started at Hogwarts you may remember me from your lessons as I was top of many subjects. I left Hogwarts with 10 outstanding NEWTS and 2 expert expertises. I achieved and O in Defence against the Dark Arts. When I left Hogwarts I obtained a job at the ministry of magic and not long after joining I became the head of the department for the regulation and control of magical creatures. I found the job both exciting and challenging but even under immense amounts of pressure I managed to “keep my cool” and not become distressed. This shows that I would be a good choice for the post of Defence against the Dark Arts professor because in challenging circumstances I would be able to take control of the situation so as it would not become out of control. As you may know many people at the ministry have considered me to be kind yet firm and I feel this would be a price quality for a teacher. I also try to be understanding and caring though I do not wish to get too involved. I understand that you are having worries as weather to re-open Hogwarts but even if one student would like to be taught I would be happy to come as each one of us would like a better future and I wish to participate in helping the world become a better place. I know that Hogwarts is one of the best wizarding schools around and it would be such an honour if I was chosen though I will completely understand if not. I would also like to say that I am deeply sorry for your lose of Albus Dumbledore he and I were great friends and many a time he would pop into my office for a chat. I hope that you consider my option as the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor and whom ever you chose I am sure they will be perfect for the job. Yours sincerely Polly Swindail Head of the department for the regulation and control of magical creatures. Part Twohttps://2img.net/h/i189.photobucket.com/albums/z163/SmexiiPolly/optiontworachelbilson.jpgi chose Rachal Bilson becuase she looks careing and kind and the look i would want it i was a teacher. | |

| Part One: Dear Professor McGonagall, My name is a mystery, but you can refer to me as R.A.B. I am writing to you on May 20th to apply for the vacant job of Defense against the Dark Arts teacher. I was head of the Auror office in the Ministry of Magic for a good ten years, a member of the wizard council, and one of the few lucky souls to have escaped Voldemort alive. I believe that students should know what they are up against, be ready for the worst, and know the best spells for getting them out of certain situations. They should all know the standard shield spell, protegro, and also be aware of the unforgivable curses, and ways to avoid them. Part Two: I chose Alec Baldwin because he has a confident personality, a key to surviving against the worst and most gruesome situations. | |

With reference to the application for Defence against the Dark arts position.
It is common knowledge that this position holds a somewhat dangerous outcome for all those who take the role, therefore I feel that I should begin with introducing myself to enlighten you on the aspects of my character which you mayfind interesting when handing this job out.
Firstly, I am immortal. No, I am not anything illegal or dangerous, and magic has not slimed my brain. I, for personal reasons involving the heart of the Tardis, a time machine used by the one and only Doctor, I have been made immortal. No thing on this earth can kill me, therefore you have no worries about me being killed off after only one year. I can give you a full service in teaching.
I have also travelled a lot, seen things you wouldn't dream of, and can offer my experience to those in education, a valuable asset in this form of teaching. I also have a lot of experience with the dark arts and feel that my being in Hogwarts is a valuable asset in the coming months (something I will inform you of if I may aquire this position)
As letters can be easily interceptd, I shall not go on any longer, yet I can inform you that all will be revealed if and when we meet in person.
Thank you for your time

| Part One43 Brocklehurst Lane, Near Bembridge Isle of Wight
8th June 2007 Dear Professor McGonagall, I am writing with reference to the open Defence Against the Dark Arts position. I have heard tell that this job is 'cursed', but I believe I am a suitable candidate, and would very much like you to consider me for the job. Perhaps I should firstly introduce myself and tell you a little about me. My name is Alison James, and I live on the Isle of Wight. I was home-schooled in my wizarding training, but don't think that makes me any less qualified. I passed my OWLs and NEWTs with E's and O's, and have since earned a degree at the Wizarding University of Salem. In the interim, I've taught at the local Muggle high-school, and have found this to be a very worthwhile experience. Not only has it kept me up to date on how Muggle's operate these days, but it gave me the opportunity to see that I love teaching. Unfortunately the school I worked at is soon to be closed down - that Muggle government is all about saving money, but where will they be when their future generations have no education? As I said, I passed my exams with flying colours, and received a very high O in Defence Against the Dark Arts. In terms of experience, I was still of school age during the first war with Voldemort, and during the second I was isolated here on the Island. However, my Father fought in both wars, and I helped him plan strategies and practice his fighting skills. I believe I am not only capable of teaching at Hogwarts, but that it will give me fresh challenges and experiences. I live for infusing young minds with knowledge, and I have been told that my teaching skills are very good. In fact, I have heard the children at my current school saying that "Miss is cool", which is a very big compliment from them, I assure you! I hope that you will consider me for the job, and I await your owl. Yours sincerely, Alison James Part TwoKate Winslet is the actress I've chosen to play the part of Alison James, because she seems like a thoroughly English person, which Alison is. Alison is also genuine and intelligent, which Kate seems to fit.

| Part one Dear Minerva McGonagall, It has just reached my attention that you were looking for someone to fill the Defense Against the Dark Arts position. I am writing this letter to inform you that I would gradually accept this job even though there is rumor that the job is jinxed. I feel that I would be able to overcome this rumor of the job being jinxed so that you would no longer have to try and find another teacher to fill the position, I mean honestly what kind of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher can not over come a jinx, isn’t that field suppose to be their specialty. Enough talk about your past under qualified teachers I shall now say a little about me. I have gone to Hogwarts as you shall remember; I was in my first year during your tenth year of training. I will admit that I was not the best nor the brightest but I have become wiser since my elementary days at Hogwarts School. After school I went to become an Auror at the Ministry where I have captured many Death Eaters for our Minister Rufus Scrimgeour. Please he was with the twelve men whom I have captured in his attempt to bring down He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named that I had received many metals for these accomplishments. I had to use many different defenses of the Dark Arts to be able to overcome these supporters of Him. You may be thinking so what if she has done many things that required the constant use of this subject, why should we pick her over the many other candidates who would also like to have this job. Not only have I gone and tackled some of the well know killers but I have also had the opportunity to deal with many children. While I was on the hunt near a magical school with which Death Eaters where near, I would usually stop to go and talk to the children to let them know about Dark Arts defenses and my job as an Auror. With each of these visits I was able to slowly learn how to deal with children which I believe would help me to succeed in this job. Since I was able to get a job in the Ministry I was able to befriend many employers whom work there. Since I was able to do this I would be able to show the children some things that many other teachers would not be able to do under normal circumstances. I am not saying this to make myself seem more important but to inform you that I want to try to teach the children everything I can from first hand experience. I would also be able to bring in close friends whom are very famous to demonstrate very complicated spells and tell them about what they have to deal with since He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is once again at large and because of this I believe that the more they know and learn the better protected they are from the You Know Who and his many followers. I hope that I would get the opportunity to be able to teach the many gifted minds at Hogwarts and help them to protect themselves from the Dark Arts. Being an Auror I have seen and dealt with many things that most wizards and witches can only think about. I know what’s put there waiting for them, trying to harm them or even kill them and I would like to help these students to fight back, to give them a chance to survive. I will teach them everything I know, everything I have been through while they in turn teach me what they know and what they’ve been through. Like I have also said “Knowledge is your best weapon” and while I’m teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts I know these students will know everything there is to know. Yours Sincerely, Oddie Riddle Part twoI chose Sarah Michelle Gellar when she was playing Buffy the Vampire Slayer because she posses the same characteristic as an Auror. She brave, able to think quickly and isn’t what she seems to be just like the character that I had came up to write this letter | |

| Dear Headmistress McGonagall, Although the circumstances surrounding the opening of the position of Defense Agaist Dark Arts professor are heartbreaking, I cannot help but be thrilled to have the oppurtunity to join the staff of Hogwarts. Ever since I attended Hogwarts as a fifth year foreign exchange student I have longed to return. I decided during my time at your school that I wanted to be a teacher, and as Defense Against Dark Arts was my best class I naturally was drawn to the subject. After graduating from Beauxbatons I went on to study under the private tutorial of the great wizard Jameson Myerlbyer. He worked side by side with Albus Dumbledore and helped bring about the downfall of the dark wizard Grindelwald. Jameson taught me so much and after two years of intense training I began to assist him with his newer students. Sadly he passed away a little over a year ago and since then I have privately tutored children of several wizarding families and have included their letters of recomendation. I have lectured at several schools, including Salem School in the United States and I was the first female speaker to ever give a lecture ar Durmstrang. While I was working with Jameson Myerlbyer we offered weekend workshops for Aurors, helping them to keep up with many of the new defenses and magical technology. I believe that I have the knowledge and the experience to help prepare the young witches and wizards of Hogwarts in the fight against Lord Voldemort. The oppurtunity to teach at Hogwarts, and indeed to protect the school and its occupants in these troubled times, is something that I feel I have been called to do. Please consider my application and contact me if you have any further questions. Sincerly, Seraphin Montenagro I choose Rose Byrne to play Seraphin as she is one of my favorite young female actresses. She has a great acting range, and although she has not made many blockbusters (except for Troy), I think she will only continue to gain critical acclaim. P.S. I took this class because I'm not the professor of it, nor am I a prefect like I was when I made the class up...so I guess I can take it since I was never going to be the one to grade it, right? I just really liked the idea, so... | |

| Dear Headmistress Minerva McGonagall, My name is Jaqueline Rhilestone and it has currently come to my attention that you are searching for a new Defense Against the Dark Arts Teacher. Now, under the occurances that have happened recently, I was rather reluctant in applying for this postition. Yet, I could not have a chance like this pass me by without so much as trying. However, there is speculation that this job is somewhat 'cursed' and I dare say I would love to prove everyone wrong. As for my qualifications, I received high marks on my NEWT's and passed with eight OWL's, My expertise in this field is beyond comparison to any other applicants you have received. After graduationg from Hogwarts with honors, I became an Auror, training and battling against the dark forces that roam around these shadowy times. It has been a long six years and I have become one of the most sought out Aurors working in the Ministry, but I think it is time to take a small break from all the excitement. Teaching these students on how to fight the Dark Arts is vastly important, especially now when the time of Final Battle draws near. I expect to lecture and instruct them on the values of all this and hope that with their found knowledge they can achieve and prevail. Along with this letter is a recommendation from Mad-Eye Moody, a head Auror. He sends his regards. On another note, you have my deepest condolences on the loss of Albus Dumbledore, he was a great wizard and a most spectacular Headmaster. I still remember him from my years at Hogwarts and it came as quite a shock to hear of such a tragic event. We shall never forget such an outstanding man. Sincerely, Jaqueline Rhilestone I chose Sandra Bullock to play Jaqueline Rhilestone. She's an amazing actress and plays her roles very seriously. She's very strong and I think this role would be perfect for her style and attitude. | |

| Dear Professor McGonagall, I have read from the Daily Prophet that you are in urgent need of a Professor to teach the Defense against the Dark Arts subject. I have read the qualifications you have set for the position and I want to apply for the position of Defense against the Dark Arts professor. My name is Francheska Patterson, known commonly as France, I am now 26 years old. You may remember me as a shy Ravenclaw student fifteen years ago, when I started studying at Hogwarts. And now, I am applying for the position not popular for a once-a-Ravenclaw-sorted-student. You may also notice that it was in my nature to teach Dark Arts. Professor, after I become a Ravenclaw prefect in my Year 5 at Hogwarts, I have been very obsessed in studying DADA at that time. Yes, my co-Ravenclaw even told me then, that I'm being crazy and joked that I should be sorted in Slytherin. But, in my opinion that time, Dark Arts has never been interesting until I have read a lot of books about it. So I engaged myself into a lot of reading and I have practiced on my own what I have read. As I became a Head Girl in my 7th and last year in Hogwarts, I have decided that I will enroll myself to more specific classes discussing Dark Arts after graduation, and will be in the academe after I have done my complex study and researches. So, after I graduated, I applied for a scholarship in Durmstrang Institute where I can broaden my knowledge about European Dark Magic, and I have been granted my Master's degree after two years of studying there. After that, I have been hired as a substitute Professor in a wizarding school in Brazil where I teach DADA for six months. Then, I've been called by the Ministry of Magic to apply for a vacancy there at Improper Use of Magic Office under Department of Magical Law Enforcement, as they have said that I am qualified for the position. For I have studied enough magical items, even dark items in the magical world in my life. In my six months there, having been assigned to some paperwork only, I have finished my book about Modern Hexes. And then my boss, having been proud of what I accomplished promoted me as an Auror in the field. Being an Auror is quite a responsibility, and needed much knowledge, and physical strength while in the job. I have been an Auror serving the Ministry for six years, and I still continue publishing my books while I have my off-duty being an Auror. As you know, Professor, I have published three more books about the Trolls, Unicorns and my recently publish is about the updated Curses that can be very useful yet still dangerous. After my services in the Ministry and my undying researches of Dark Magic, now I want to share my knowledge of DADA to every student at my beloved Alma Mater, Hogwarts, by applying in the position of DADA professor. I may be young at my age, and look like a frail, but after I have lay down my qualifications including my Auror's experience in the field, I was hoping that you can consider me as one of your potentials to be in the position. I promise to do my best in the world of academe. And I am hoping that I will soon be a part of your staff. It will be the greatest magic of my life - to serve my one and only Hogwarts, in the name of the Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Sincerely yours, Francheska "France" Patterson PS: Together with this letter is a two recent photo of me. I think it is helpful to share it to you so you can remember the once-shy-girl-from-Ravenclaw-now-a-brave-auror-and-professional. I used Keira Knightley for i think she'll suit the role best. After all, the character I've made was young, been shy and turned brave. Plus, she do not look too intimidating, she's more of a Professor McGonagall-like in terms of moods in class. Kind but can be cold whenever she needs to. | |

| Dearest Aunt Minerva, I hope this letter finds you in good spirits, and that the school is recovering well from all the unpleasantness of recent times, those things which are better left out of a letter. As you know I have recently returned to England after so long abroad, and if you’ll forgive my frankness, Aunt Minnie, but of course you know that I know no other way to be; I understand that you have a position open at your school for a Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. I would ask that you consider me for this position, as you know my history and training well, and that I am well suited to teach the subject at Hogwarts in the approaching term. Of course my accomplishments and previous employment speak for themselves – my NEWTS were scored well, if you recall, Outstanding in Potions, Transfiguration, Herbology, Astronomy and Defense Against The Dark Arts – and the further education I got in America at the Dragonseye Institute of Further Wizardry, from which I graduated second in my class (blast that woman! Coincidentally: I’ll be bringing her around for tea with mum on Friday. I think you’ll like her, Aunt Minnie, she’s such a wonderful woman, and there couldn’t be a luckier man on earth than me, the wedding can’t happen fast enough!) with honours. I majored in the study of Dark Creatures, of course, with a minor in Dark Wizardry, and went on to travel widely and experience what I had previously only ever encountered in highly artificial environments, in school. Now it is here, Aunt Minnie, that your extensive knowledge of my credentials runs out. Of course you were aware that I travelled all over the world in my research, but just what I encountered there and why I am now qualified to teach Defense Against The Dark Arts, well I couldn’t include in a letter to mum, but I trust your discretion when I divulge all my secrets. Of course a particular fascination of mine has always been the nature and habits of certain Dark Creatures (you remember that unfortunate incident with the grindylow Uncle Pete’s swamp, I think. I still have the scar on my back) and so I found myself in New Zealand five years ago now, fresh out of Dragonseye, and looking for adventure. I was perhaps a little reckless at times, but mistakes are made to be learnt from, and so I am not afraid to tell you about my encounter with a banshee which had been terrorising a small fishing village (Wizard village, of course) near Auckland. Of course she was a long way from home – but Dark Creatures somehow find their way to many and varied places, I’ve seen – but whether or not she was in Ireland, her powers were just as potent and her appearance just as frightening as if she had been. Her keen fortelling the death of villagers in the night had been heard for close to six months, sporadically during the night. These people were keen to be rid of her, and I was keen to jump in and help, and they paid me well in whiskey and bee- well, perhaps it’s best if you don’t know those details, Aunt Minnie. In any case, I lured her away by stealing into her hideout during the day (of course their voice does not work during the day, and I felt that I was relatively safe) and taking her silver comb (banshees are really quite attached to these combs, with which they spirit away anyone gullible enough to pick one up) after which I managed to get her away from people and into some wilderness, where I cast wards that would disorient her enough that she’d find it difficult indeed to make her way back. My experience with the banshee was not without fatality though, and I don’t think my hearing will ever be quite the same again. After this time in New Zealand (you really must see the country, Aunt Minnie, it’s particularly beautiful in the spring) I returned to Europe, and spent some time with the vampires, learning their ways. After several months with them, they were so impressed with me that they offered to make me one of their clan – but of course I had Madeline to think about, and I don’t think I’m really the ‘vampire’ type, so I turned them down (gently of course), and left the Romanian mountains to spend some time studying plants commonly used in dark magic and potions, and the rituals behind the harvest and growth of these plants, all of which are very dark indeed. As it happens, a second owl is on its way to your office with a copy of my book on this subject – it is not well known, the subject being something of a taboo, but it has been well received in academic circles. More recently I have been writing a monthly column in the magazine The Quibbler (you may have heard of it, I hear that it has become more popular since Harry Potter began endorsing it) about proper defense against the Dark forces out there. It’s called, “Know your neighbour: your guide to the dark and the dangerous”. Of course, this job would not interfere with Hogwarts in any way, should you see fit to give me the position. I am a master of organisation, and if anything, I think that writing for The Quibbler would present me with a unique teaching aid, should the students need clarification on the article. The Dark Arts are of course, not to be taken lightly, and this I have learnt through trial and error in my travels. It is the product of the lessons I have learnt that leads me to beseech you to grant me the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Enclosed is a list of references from previous employment, and my certificates of achievement and graduation from Dragonseye. See you on Friday, Love your nephew, Phillip Freedawn (PS – I’ve also enclosed a picture of me with Madeline in New York.) [I chose Joseph Gordon-Levitt because he has that unassuming handsome face that Phillip does which would rope the students into loving him easily, and he's quite intelligent, too, just as Phillip is. I think he'd make an excellent wizard, and his suits are snazzy.) Sources: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banshee | |
