I think voldemort went to him to be trained...possibly. It's too early to do the maths right now, but I think the dates work out. It would have been at the height of Grindelwald's reign though, as he died in 1945, so it makes sense that a young Tom Riddle would go to him for guidance.

1992-50 = 1942
In 1942, Tom Riddle was 16
Therefore, it's very possible Voldie saw him and was trained by him before he died in 1945

did he actually die? i thought he was simply defeated by DD, perhaps if he lived he could have trained Voldielocks, but i voted maybe because i think he'll be mentioned, perhaps we'll learn how DD defteaed him, which may possibly be useful to Harry when he gets killed by Voldielocks :D

Hmm that's true, we know DD defeated him but did the wording actually say he killed him?
