I don't think we'll find out - like stephy said. But then again, they heard voices comign from there, right? And Harry felt "charmed" by it, right? (Well, he started to walk towards it and just stared at it and whatever xD) SO it COULD be where all the dead people go... or something. Maybe they're the ones talking and making all the sounds...

I think it's a sort of underworld.. because of the voices etc... but it doesn't mean that we'll ever know for sure, it's just my hunch

I think it's a sort of underworld too. TLC have just uncovered a quote from JKR from back in 2000, and she (Jo) said:

She says "just how close you can get to the dead" - so I think we'll definitely be seeing behind the veil...
