This class is similar to the class Love Potion #9, found HERE.

Part One:

Create a potion that can bring glory, fame or both. List the ingredients - the quanity is up to you. Then describe how the potion works. (45)

Part Two:

Write a short story where the potion is used and what the outcome is. As always there will be no maximum word count, but I do want a minimum of 300 words. (35)

Part Three:

Post a picture of what you potion will look like. You can either draw it or use a picture you find, just make sure it is labelled. (20)

Part one

The Palmagloria Potion

Ingredients:
1 vial of stardust, for Glitter
5 crushed petals of the Hyacinth flower, for Benevolence
5 crushed petals of the Larch flower, for Audacity
3 crushed petals of the Lichen flower, for Confidence
12 crushed petals of the Pineapple flower, for Perfection
4 crushed petals of the Sage flower, for Esteem
10 crushed petals of the Laurel flower, for Glory
7 crushed petals of the Ash flower, for Greatness
5 crushed petals of the Daisy flower, for Inspiration
9 crushed petals of the Lily flower, for Pride
2 hairs from a lion's mane, for Perseverance

The Palmagloria potion brings glory to those who drink it. When brewed correctly, it has a faint gold color and a watery texture. This potion is odorless. It is a very strong potion so one vial will give the drinker two complete days of glory and he or she will be popular and revered by all who meet him or her during those 48 hours. After the potion wears off, although the drinker will still remember his or her glory-filled days, any other people will not. If a person overdoses on the Palmagloria potion, then he or she will experience drowsiness, a swirl of light golden dust accompanying them for a brief duration, and a tendency towards pompousness and arrogance after the potion wears off. For how long the latter side effect lasts, depends on its drinker and his or her personality.

Upon drinking a correctly brewed Palmagloria potion, the drinker should feel a slight tingling in his or her fingers and toes that gradually spreads through out the body. That tingling feeling should go away after a minute. Then, if brewed properly, the drinker should experience adoration and praise from people he or she meets for the next 48 hours.

Part Two:

'And lastly,' he thought, 'I add the lion hairs.' This he did, and then proceeded to stir slowly clockwise 12 times. The potion shimmered for a moment, and then paled so that its color was that of a pale gold. He smiled and carefully ladled some out and poured it into a small glass vial. Slowly bringing it to his mouth, he hesitated. What if he didn't make it correctly? Throwing that thought out of his head, Percy Ignatius Weasley swallowed the Palmagloria potion. Almost immediately after drinking it, he felt a pleasant tingling at his fingertips and toes that eventually spread throughout his body. "That's good," he murmured. Glancing at the cauldron still half full with potion, Percy hesitantly poured some more potion into the vial. Closing his eyes, he swallowed that batch too. Now, he felt better than good. The 11-year-old stood up and ran out of his dorm and out of the Gryffindor Common Room. He didn't notice the golden sparkles that at times seemed to be there, and at other times, were not. Percy reached the corridor and decided to test his potion out. Walking up to a boy reading a book, Percy said, "Hello."

The boy looked up, annoyed to be disturbed. But his expression quickly changed. "Oh Merlin, I'm so honored to be meeting you Mr. Weasley! May I call you Percy? Is there anything that I can get you, anything that you need?" The boy was so eager that he dropped his book.

Percy stooped and got it. "Here," he said to the boy. "What's your name?"

The boy looked at the book in his hands as if it was gold. "Y-you touched this," he whispered in shock. He looked at Percy. "Percy Weasley touched my book!" With tears in his eyes, the boy said, "Wow! I can sell it on WizBay for 100 galleons!" Suddenly remembering the question asked, he said, "Percy Weasley has asked my name?!?" Hopping in excitement in an uncanny resemblance of Dobby, the boy said, "My name is Eric Clearwater Percy! Oh oh! You have to meet my sister, Penelope. She'll be sooo excited that I've actually met you!"

Percy was more than slightly confused. Penelope? Who was that? He reluctantly went along with Eric as the Ravenclaw led him through corridors to the Ravenclaw Tower. Along the way, Percy smiled and waved as students and teachers alike dropped everything and ran to praise and stare at him. Before the two had even gotten to the Ravenclaw Tower, a cheer went up from the crowd. "PERCY PERCY PERCY PERCY!!!" they all cried as they waved their arms in the air.

Finally, the two reached a giant statue of a raven perched on a stack of books. "Scientia est vox," Eric said hurriedly. Percy smiled. How appropriate for a password. Knowledge is power. The statue moved to the left to reveal a doorway. Eric was about to step through, but then stepped back. "You must go first of course Percy," he said, a broad grin on his face.

Percy felt special and exalted. Putting a smug smile on his face, he said, "Well thank you Eric." and stepped through. Eric quickly hurried after him and showed him the way into the Ravenclaw Common Room.

"Here we are!" he announced.

Percy followed his guide into a round room. The color scheme was blue and gold and it looked quite a lot like the Gryffindor common Room. Suddenly, Percy started when Eric raised his voice.

"Penelope!!!!!" Eric shouted. "Come down here please! You've gotta see who I have with me!!!"

Soon, the sound of running footsteps could be heard and a brown-haired girl ran down the steps of the Girls' Dorm. She stopped short at the sight of Percy and Eric.

"Eric..." she said in a hushed whisper. "Is that who I think it is?"

"Yes Penny!" her brother said in excitement.

Percy stepped forward. "Hello Penelope," he said, suddenly shy. She was a very pretty girl. "I'm Percy Weasley."

Penny gaped like all the rest. "I'm so excited to meet you!" she shouted.

The two siblings were Percy's companions for the rest of the day and the next, although many others wanted the job. Whenever Percy entered a room or exited, students and teachers and even ghosts, began cheering "PERCY PERCY PERCY!!!!!!!!!"

Unfortunately, after a while, the potion wore off and Percy became normal again. A week after his Palmagloria potion incident, Percy sat down at the Gryffindor table for breakfast. Turning to the boy across the table from him, Percy said, "Could you please pass me the grapes, my good man?"

Normally, the boy would have, but today jsut wasn't one of his good days. "Get'em yourself," he said and returned to looking sullen.

Percy's mouth opened and closed over and over again. "How dare you?" he asked. "Do you know who you're talking to?"

The boy sneered. "Yeah," he said, "Someone who's too full of himself to get the grapes on his own."

Percy was silenced and looked down at his plate. 'Why am I acting this way?' he wondered.

Part One

Spotlight Absorbing Potion

Ingredients
2 cups of Lime Stardust
4 teaspoons of Brightening Juice
3 Sun Ray Petals
1 cup of Admiration Sap
4 crushed Universal Lightning Fish fins
1 cup of light Love Potion
7 ground Shiny Seaweed

The Spotlight Absorbing Potion is a greenish vanilla potion that makes everyone notice you and think you are the most wonderful person in the world. One vial of this potion will make you the most popular and lovable person around. The effect of this potion lasts 1 day which includes a slight memory charm on everyone, except yourself, so everyone won't remember a thing about swooning over you. But even if they forget, some people are mostly likely to have some lingering effects that may make them like you even after the potion wears off.

Part Two

Dumbledore frowned at the vial on his table. His brother had sent it to him on Christmas with some disguting sweet talk in a letter plus a note saying: Use it Wisely. The headmaster looked at the potion again slightly tempted to drink it. Shaking his head firmly, he tried to distract himself by sucking on one of his lemon drops. Few minutes later, he found himself holding an empty vial that use to contain the potion. Eyes widening, he cursed his brother for sending him the potion. Albus Dumbledore knew that his brother liked to play pranks but his was way too much. He knew that this brother clearly remember last time he drank this potion, that included swooning people and someone flashin- ugh, he didn't want to think about it.

Sighing in defeat, he quickly wrote a note to the Headmistress informing her that he wouldn't be out and about today. Settling into his chair, he stroked his bread and sighed again, this time in relief. Suddenly the door burst open as the four head of the houses burst into the room, each looking at him as if he was a delicate piece of china. Eyes widening, he mentally blanched at the look at Professor Snape's face and before he could react, Snape was making him lie down, both the Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw heads were trying to force him to eat clam chowder and the Gryffindor head was cooing over him. As if it couldn't get any worse, the normally reserved Slytherin head started rocking him. All this was too much for the poor old man and he promptly fainted in the arms of the potion professor.

The next day, none of the heads of the houses nor the headmaster was present all day. But a twinkling blue eyed man who claimed to be Dumbledore’s brother gave the students the day off telling them all of the adults were suffering from an extreme rare disease that with the symptoms of throwing up and turning green. And with smirk he advised everyone not to go near any of their quarters..

Part Three

Bring fame:
Step one: Take three unicorn horns and crush them into a fine powder. Put this off to the side.

Step two: Take one once of beetle eyes and throw them into the cauldron while the heat is on low. Stir for about twenty minutes or until the potion turns pink.

Step three: Take six strands of Unicorn hair and place them into the cauldron. Let shimmer for ten minutes.

Step four: Stir the potion until it turns a light red and quickly add the grounded unicorn horn.

Step five: Let potion sit for two day while the heat is on high. After these two days put the heat on low and stir clockwise for five minutes, it should turn gold. After the potion cools down, drink it and enjoy your fame.

Luna went to potion class with the other Ravenclaws and saw to her delight that if one of them would manage to make the hiccupping cure potion correctly they would be able to get some of the fame potion as a reward. Luna grinned as she took out her cauldron and got to work making her potion, she had after all helped her father make this potion many times. She ran over to the cupboard and got out all of the ingredients, she didn’t even need to look at the board she knew how to make it by heart.

When the end of the class came Luna poured some her potion into a flask and showed it to Professor Slughorn. After examining them for a few minutes he had looked as if he was ready to announce the winner. He got to his feet and went back into his office where he returned moments later holding another flask.

“The winner of the Fame Potion is Luna Lovegood. Come up here and get in Luna you deserve it.” Slughorn beamed at her.

Luna rushed up to the front of the room and took the flask. I guess I could drink this after class Luna thought as she heard the bell ring to alert then that the end of the class had just arrived.

As soon as she was out of the room and flung back her head a gulped down the whole potion. She didn’t feel any different but as she looked through the halls she saw everyone staring at her and whispering to whom ever was close to them. Oh well they’re probably just making fun of me again Luna thought as she went to the Great Hall for lunch.

After taking her seat several first year Gryffindors rushed over to her table and said in a rushed voice “Can I have your autograph”. Luna beamed as she took a piece of paper from the young kids hand and wrote down her name. Just as she handed it back a Slytherin came up to her. “Aren’t your father the publisher of the Quibbler” he asked her. “Yes” Luna said uncertainly. Wait. She thought, that potion made me famous.

Grinning she walked over to the Hufflepuff table and sat down beside a few third years. “Hello” she said as her dreamily voice carried across the table. Once they had noticed that she was there they kept asking her many questions about her father and the weird creatures that they always looked for when they went on vacation. Luna told them all that she knew and asked them that if they seen one to send her and owl as soon as possible. After they all nodded at this she smiled and went back to her common room.

On her way there she ran into Ginny. “Hey Ginny.” She simply said.

“Oh hi Luna” Ginny replied.

“I’m famous” she said as she entered her common room and left Ginny by herself in the corridor.

After giving the answer to get into the common room, Luna crawled inside and said hello to her fellow Ravens. After getting her stuff for Care of Magical Creatures and telling many more students about what she and her father did, she walked on down to Hagrid’s hut.

Once there she tried to tell her fellow students about nargles but no one would listen. After a few minutes of trying to engage conversation with a few Hufflepuffs Luna finally accepted the fact that the potion had worn off. Oh well it was nice to have everyone act like they where interested in me she thought.

Famagloire Potion
~2 drops of almond oil-for riches
~8 sliced aloe leaves-for luck
~1 5 leaved arrowleaf clover-to draw money
~5 ounces powdered banyan leaves-for luck and wealth
~1/4 cup bayberry nectar-for good fortune and money
~4 Clematis seeds-for reaching goals
~2 ounces chopped dandelion root-for achieving what you wish
~4 crushed garlic cloves-for power and success
~4 ounces ginger root-for power and success
~2 henhock seeds-for money
~4 sliced jasmine roots-for money
~1/3 cup extract of may apple-for prosperity
~1 ounce powdered mistletoe-for fortune and luck
~1 ounce crushed Moonwort-for luck
~7 ounces crushed oak leaf-for luck
~1 chopped Osha root-to manifest wishes
~1/4 cup patchouli oil-for success
~6 ounces shelled peas-for fortune
~3 ounces powdered siderite crystals-for luck
~1/3 cup vanilla extract-for success and luck

The Herbal Component
Step 1. Slice the aloe and jasmine roots
Step 2. Sprinkle half of the sliced roots into a large bowl, then place the arrowleaf clover, clematis seeds, and ginger root on top of that layer. Add in the remaining sliced roots.
Step 3. Crush the banyan leaves, mistletoe, and siderite crystals and add half of the combined amount into the large bowl.
Step 4. Chop up the dandelion and osha root and then add to your large bowl. Cover the chopped roots with the remaining powdered mixture.
Step 5. Partially crush the garlic cloves, moonwort, and oak leaf. Add half of the crushed mixture into your large bowl.
Step 6. Sprinkle the shelled peas on top of the entire mixture.

The Liquid Component
Step 1. Bring the flame beneath your small cauldron to about 80 degrees. Sprinkle the almond oil in the cauldron.
Step 2. Mix the bayberry nectar and essence of may apple in a separate bowl, and add to the cauldron when the almond oil begins to hiss.
Step 3. Alternate one drop of vanilla oil with one drop of patchouli oil until you have added three drops of vanilla, and four of patchouli.
Step 4. Lower the fire to a very light simmer

The Finished Result
Step 1. Remove cauldron with the liquid component from the fire
Step 2. Pour 1/2 of the liquid into another large bowl
Step 3. Add the entire herbal component.
Step 4. Stir 28 times clock wise, until the mixture begins to clump slightly
Step 5. Add the remainder of the liquid component, and stir 28 times clockwise again.
Step 6. Add the four henhock seeds-place one on each cardinal direction point in the cauldron.
Step 7. Allow the seeds to be absorbed by the potion, and then bottle the results.

The Famagloire Potion must be brewed with minimal error, or the drinker will come upon disastrous results. All of the liquid ingredients must be kept separate from the dry ingredients, and must only be combined during the last few hours of the waxing moon before it becomes a full moon. After this is done, the drinker must drink the entire potion-which should have a silvery sheen and a pulsing golden glow in the center-, while visualizing themselves under the effects of the potion. The drinker will then possess great fame and glory until the next new moon-unless they are given the antidote.

Ginny Weasley sat at her kitchen table, opening the presents she had received for her seventeenth birthday. Around her sat her family and friends, all beaming at her-well, in Mrs. Weasley’s case, beaming and crying that her ‘baby’ was finally of age. When Ginny had opened her last present-a pair of lemon earrings from Luna-her guests were going to retire to the sitting room for cake and tea. Just as she stood up to go join them, a hand on her arm stopped her.

“Just a minute, Ginny. I have one more present for you.” She smiled mischievously and turned to face Harry Potter, whom she had recently gotten back together with.

“Oh? Is it anything like the one I gave you for your seventeenth birthday?” He colored slightly, although the smile remained on his face as he shook his head ‘no’. “All right, what is it then?” she asked, holding out her hand. Harry clucked his tongue disapprovingly.

“Impatient are we, Miss Weasley?”

“Yes, very. Now…please may I have my present?” she opened her chocolate brown eyes wide, giving him a puppy dog look she knew he couldn’t refuse. He sighed in exasperation and handed her a bottle about the size of her small hand. Raising an eyebrow, she examined the silvery contents. The potion slowly glowed golden at the center, and then the gold faded-only to return another thirty seconds later. “What is it, Harry?”

“Ah, I see you haven’t been paying attention in Potions.” She grinned again.

“Of course not, not since you got put into my class this year.” Due to the rush of students returning to Hogwarts after the defeat of Voldemort, the 6th and 7th years had been taking certain classes together.

“Well, that’s a fairly good reason. But, this potion is called ‘Famagloire’, otherwise known as the ‘Fame and Glory’ potion.” Running a hand through her vibrant Weasley hair, Ginny looked at it again.

“Why-”

“Because, I figure that as the girlfriend of ‘The Boy Who Lived’, you deserve to get a little taste of your own kind of fame. Come on, after tea and cake your mum has allowed me to take you to a late-night muggle carnival, and you’ve got to drink the potion before the moon becomes full.” She gasped in excitement and hugged Harry around the middle. He wrapped his arms around her and patted her on the head. “Come now, let’s not keep your family waiting. Ron doesn’t know why I held you back, and he’ll probably want to take the mickey out of me.”

“Miss? Would you like to act in the new television show that I’ve just gotten approved. You looks as though you has enough talent to be a star just after one episode-”

“After hearing you speak, Miss, I can tell you have a wonderful singing voice. My uncle Paul could get you a record deal in a second-”

“That amazing arm of yours would do quite well in baseball…”

“Your legs are those of a dancer, am I right? I could offer you a spot on my cousin’s niece’s tour-”

“Miss! Miss! Please, Miss! Let me just take a picture of you! I run a modeling agency, and you’d be perfect for our new lingerie line-”

“You’re all wrong, as she’s my girlfriend, I’ll be taking her on the Ferris Wheel without the lot of you!” Harry shouted as Ginny giggled. She had noticed him becoming increasingly uncomfortable as the crowd began shouting about her appearance. When he slammed the door closed and protectively put his arm around her, she leaned against him. Although all the attention had been tiresome, it was a bit thrilling to have everyone watching her and just her, and not her boyfriend. “This is the last ride of the night, okay Gin?” She pouted,

“Awww, why?” His green eyes met her brown ones, startled.

“You aren’t tired of all those…people heckling you?” She smiled.

“Not really, all the attention is very flattering. In fact, I’m so glad this potion is going to last until the next new moon.” Harry’s eyes narrowed behind his glasses.

“Oh no it’s not. I’m giving you the antidote-”

“Just try!”

“Ginny! Put your wand away! We’re in a muggle place and just because you’re of age-ack, not the bat bogey hex! Fine, fine, I won’t give you the potion until tomorrow night…”

“Thank you, Mr. Potter.”
