| How well did the cover art represent the book? I think the UK editions did it very well. The children's cover clearly shows the Gringott's scene, and we now know why Ron and Hermione are in such fancy robes and why Harry isn't. You do get a feel of the treasure spilling everywhere on that cover, and the orange glow behind is obviously meant to represent the fire from the dragon. The back of the UK cover is Hogwarts, the mist from the dementors and the forest because that was where a lot of action took place. Other details - the symbol of the Hallows, Harry's patronus, Nagini in the orb - all in all, I thought the children's UK cover represented the book very well. The UK adult cover - well, the locket. Not much to say there, but it featured and it looked good. But the US cover? I honestly don't think it represents the book or the scene it's depicting very well. Why is Harry facing away from Voldemort? Why is there a colleseum type building behind him - where was that supposed to be? As I don't have the US version, I can't comment on the chapter pictures, but I would love to see them | |

| Lol Amy, would you like me to scan them? :D
I don't understand our cover at all, either. I'm almost disappointed in it. The only part of it I understand is that Harry's got the moleskin pouch around his neck, although it seems a bit small...

| I liked the US cover hehe. It was pretty, just kind of confusing... The moleskin pouch was small because moleskin shrinks... I think Hagrid said that somewhere in the book, and they mention it in Fabulous Beasts and Where to Find Them. It's kind of like Hermione's bag, but... more manly | |

| The chapter pictures in the US version are great... but the cover totaly sucks and it just looks out of place compared to all the other covers.. it looks so blank and empty while the others are hoarded with different things.. | |

| No, his eyes look black actually lol.much worse. I don't understand our cover at all either, but it still looks great. I mean, I don't judge the artist. They can draw much better than I ever could. However, I think the chapter pictures make up for the cover. THey displayed what was to come | |

| oh oh oh oh I just understood what is on the US cover!!!!! It's the scene in the Great Hall, with the ceiling flaming with the sunrise and Harry's hand outstretched to catch the Elder Wand while everyone is watching...only the truth is, shouldn't there still be a wand in his other hand? But I'm suddenly liking it a lot more now that I know what it's actually depicting! XD
And I agree, the chapter artwork is fantastic.

| I still don't get why it looks like a colleseum though...not what the great hall should look like at all! I wish I could see the chapter art...the only one I've seen is Chapter Seven, with Harry and Ginny. | |

| Actually if the ceiling is round, it logically follows that the whole room should be round as well. They messed this up in the movies, like they did a lot of things. As for the columns...well it IS an old castle, and that's how architecture was like at some point in time, columns scattered all over to support the ceiling. I really do think it makes a lot more sense now. | |

| Yes...but to me it doesn't look very English. It just doesn't look like old, ancient castle rooms look in England. I suppose I'm being nitpicky...but it just doesn't look right to me lol. | |

| Well in DH it says that the sudden color from the sunrise IN THE CEILING struck them in the eyes...and often throughout the books it'd say something like it was cloudy or whatever at breakfast time.
Amy: I dunno, I suppose it does have more of that Roman look. But some castles in England DO have arched windows and columns...not very many perhaps but maybe the Great Hall is unique XD. Or maybe Mary Grandpre just hasn't seen any English castles.
Did JK ever mention what shape the Great Hall was?

| okay. i sooo didn't see the moleskin pouch (US cover). when i read that on the previous page i ran to my room and looked then said "ooohhh, duh!".
and how the brit covers are described, i GOTTTAAAA see them!!!!!!!!! send or paste a pic!!!!! our chapter pictures were awesome though!!!
as for the cover- i like the coloration a lot. it's obviously the great hall. and yes, the great hall does show the daytime sky, doesn't it? ahh, IDk for sure!! i gotta watch the movies again!! and as for it looking old. you gotta think, weren't they all in a huge battle? you can't possibly expect the place to be in mint condition...and i do think voldy looks too much like a dementor...it seems to me, they should have talked to us before making the covers, aye?
