| Well, we found out a lot about Lily in this book but not so much about James.
We saw a pre-Hogwarts Lily, and found out that she was best friends with Snape. The only thing we seemed to find out about James is that he saved Snape's life in the prank before Snape's Worst Memory, and there was almost no fight with Voldemort on the night he died - though I did like that little glimpse of James playing with lights before Voldie arrived.
We also saw their house, a memorial, their graves and found out their birth dates.
I was a little disappointed at the lack of information on them, I know I would have liked to see what their jobs were and where the Potter family fortune came from.

| I was reading on another forum earlier, about parallels between Draco and James.
Both were arrogant bullies, boasting about their Father and their wealth.
But somewhere - and I would have liked to see where - James matured and became a good person, and Draco didn't do that (at least in the series).
Somehow James must have become the man Lily loved, and I would very much have liked this explained as we're still left with the impression that James Potter was nothing more than a bully, and that's disappointing.

| yeah, it is odd that JK would leave it on a note like that...it wouldn't have been very difficult for her to throw in a memory where Lily is telling Snape why she loves James...though perhaps at that point Lily and Snape weren't that close anymore, and she probably wouldn't want to rub it in. I am still trying to gather my thoughts into semi-coherent bits, at the moment I can't really think straight cuz I'm still sort of stunned by the whole book XD
but I am pretty sure Lily would never have married him unless she really loved him.

| I really liked Lily in this book, and it seemed nice how she and Petunia actually seemed to like each other before Hogwarts. And, even though Lily didn't seem to appreciate it, Petunia sent the Potters a vase one Christmas (so it must've been a hideous vase...) but all the same, she 'pretended to not have a sister' but still sent her a vase. I thought it was nice they still had SOME sort of connection.
I did like James playing with baby Harry, although I wondered why he left his wand behind. I mean, James died trying to save Lily and Harry, so should there have been blood protection there? :/
I seriously want to know more about James and the rest of the Potters now >_<

| I always imagined there would be some kind of fight between Voldy and James... guess not. OH WELL!!!! It was so sad, the whole moment with little Harry and stretching James and stuff. So... casual, and then they were dead and... WHY!?!?!?!? >__< | |

| I liked their little family moments though, agreed, more would have been nice. Their epitaph was very touching...I liked that too.
But how Harry and Ginny named their children was a bit unoriginal...Yeah, in my fanfics (unpublished) I named them Lily and James too...but I would never wish Albus/Severus as a name for any baby boy.
Everyone names H/G's kids Lily and James...how about something different, like Robert and Anna...or Adam and Maria, or something...

| It's a bit of a pet peeve of mine when people criticise JKR for naming the kids Lily and James...because it's only become a cliché because so many people in the fanfiction world did it. JKR's had the epilogue written for years, she gave them the names years and years ago, it's just us with our wonderful foresight that have guessed correctly. | |

| True, but didn't anyone else have deja vu's during the book? Like, "Hmm, I think I've read a fanfiction like this!"
I sure had quite many of 'em.. :D

| No, don't get me wrong...I like Lily and James as grandkids names in the books...but only if I had not read so many fanfics (including mine) that hadn't done the same.
My problem is with Albus' name. I feel that Dumbledore hid a lot from Harry and even after the little limbo conversation between the two, I don't think neither Albus, nor Severus deserve to have a son named after them. Maybe I'm the kind of person who likes everything to be all fun, dandy and happy, but in the book, I started to dislike Dumbledore a bit for what he kept from Harry...and I never liked Snape, still don't.
I feel that like honouring his parents, maybe naming a child after Sirius or Remus would have been nice.
All in all...I liked the book better than the epilogue. Lol...mostly because it changed a few of my plot bunnies.

| Harry would've hated dumbledore if he had told him those secrets before like in the beginning when Ron's aunt Muriel was going on. I think harry had to realize that no one is perfect. The epilouge did kind of feel like de ja vu though! man people are just too smart now a days | |
