House pride is at an all time high here on HE so I thought it might be fun to do a class that focuses on the house traits. For this class I want you to come up with 3 potions that are representitive of your respective houses. Pick one of the potions and write a short fiction.

Pt. One: Create 3 potions that signify your house, write a summary of the ingredients (not all have to be listed) and an explanation of what it does and why it is associated with your house. Each potion summary should be at least 150 words long. 25 pts.

Pt. Two: Choosing one of your three potions, write a short fiction detailing a time when you or another member of your house used the potion. Minimum word count of 400. 25 pts.

The house with the most class partcipants will be awarded an extra 10 points.

Part 1

HuffieLoyal Potion

~ hufflepuffs loyal and just~

2 frozen Ashwinder eggs
1 bezoar
5 ground unicorn tail
2 cups of Murtlap Essence
2 powdered moonstone
3 ground tubeworms

First you add Ashwinder eggs because it is part of the ingredients to make a love potion, so adding it in the HuffieLoyal Potion can make the people who drink it more loving (thus more loyal) to each other. A bezor is a protection against most poisons, so adding that symbolizes that friends that are loyal to each other can overcome a lot of things. The ground hair of a unicorn symbolizes that loyal people stick together since unicorn hair is said to be very strong when binding things. Murtlap Essence soothes heals and cuts and that symbolizes that friends can soothe each other's wounds. Lastly tubeworms symbolize sticking together because tubeworms are sticky. So if Hufflepuffs are loyal to each other and their friends, they stick by their friends like how tubeworms stick to desks.

-------

HyperPuff Potion

~hufflepuffs: sometimes hyper & energetic~

2 cups of Re'em blood
3 runespoor eggs
4 crushed lovage
1 crushed Erumpent horn

Adding Re'em blood gives the drinker strength and adding them into the potion can boost the drinker's energy like how a candy bar can do to a person. Mixing Runespoor eggs with Re’em blood can enhance mental ability and like Re'em blood, that boost the drinker's energy. Lovage is a herb that makes people a bit reckless and adding this ingredient shows that sometimes being hyper can make you reckless too. Erumpent parts like the horn are used in exploding fluids. Adding it will make a hyper person more energetic. Even if sometimes Hufflepuffs are not hyper (in public) they still are very energetic and willing to jump up to lend a helping hand. In PA, the sorting hat said that hufflepuffs are 'unafraid of toil' so an efficient potion should fit the characteristic of Hufflepuff

-------

HuffieEfficentPotion

~hufflepuffs not afraid of toil~

2 ground scarab beetles
1 cut up ginger root
2 crushed hellebore leaves
1 crushed moonstone
4 cut up Jobberknoll feathers
2 crushed caterpillars

Scarab beetles and ginger root are both used in the Wit-Sharpening Potion. So using them in the HuffieEfficent Potion can enhance the drinker's ability of thinking. Helleborne and moonstone help make the drinker calmer, as it was used in the Draught of Peace. Adding them in this potion, that is suppose to make the drinker hardworking, helps that fact since it calms the drinker so the drinker can calmly do their work. Jobberknoll feathers are used in Memory Potions and this ingredient is added to help enhance the drinker's memory because when doing work, you have to remember certain information. Lastly, the crushed caterpillar symbolizes productive work. Since hufflepuffs are not afraid of toil (as the sorting hat said in PA) this potion can help us finish our work even faster and more efficiently

Part 2

Fumbling the desk beside my bed I rubbed my eyes and glanced at the flashing alarm clock. The numbers 6:00 stared back at me as I banged my clock back on the desk in frustration. Settling back in bed I stretched my arms. Suddenly in mid-stretch, my hand hit a glass bottle. Yawning I sat up sleepily to look at it. Lighting my wand with a quiet whisper of Lumos I squinted at the dusty bottle I held in my hand. Uncapping the top I sniffed it warily and decided it was just a bottle of butterbeer that I had sneaked up from last night's party. Then with a shrug I gulp it down and settled back under my covers.

A few minutes later, I was still tossing and turning around in my bed since I was suddenly wide awake and jittery. Then with a leap I climbed out of bed and skipped to the bathroom. I thought to myself: since I was already awake, why stay in bed? Humming to myself I skipped out of the restroom and went into the common room. Sitting down at the sofa I looked around humming ‘the saints go marching in’ and felt extremely bored. Jumping up from where I was sitting I decided to go wake up some other hufflepuffs for company. Skipping back to the dorms I quickly shook the other hufflepuffs awake by yelling ‘wake up’ in their ear. Not waiting to see if they actually woke up I rushed down the stairs and cheerfully went to the Great Hall.

Grabbing a piece of French toast and bacon I waved joyfully to the professors that were sleepily walking towards the great hall. Munching on the toast I went back to the common room to wait for others. Tapping my foot and looking at my watch that only read 6:15 I saw they were still asleep. Finishing my toast and now munching on my bacon, I did a little dance by the fireplace when saw that my fellow hufflepuffs that finally woke up. I cheerfully dragged them to the Great Hall and bounced around while they ate and started at me confusingly, probably because I was always the one that had to drag to breakfast. Arriving at our first class I suddenly felt very drained and nodded off at my desk as I came to realize that I had drunk a HyperPuff Potion instead of a butterbeer.

Pt. One: Create 3 potions that signify your house, write a summary of the ingredients (not all have to be listed) and an explanation of what it does and why it is associated with your house. Each potion summary should be at least 150 words long. 25 pts.

Brain Power Potion.
7 Jobberknoll feathers
1 Fluxweed
11Daisy roots
1 Armadillo bile

To create this potion you have to first add 6 Jobberknoll Feathers to a bowl of boiling hot water. You must leave them for 2 minutes before putting the Fluxweed in. This may course fizzing and bubbling and you may need to set back from the desk. Then place a Daisy root in every 2 minutes. After 10 place the Armadillo Bile in a leave for 5 minutes. It should dissolve the Jobberknol feathers and fluxweed. It is the required that you sire three times clockwise and 7 anticlockwise for 10 times. After doing so place you last daisy root and Jobberknoll feather in a leave for 2 days. You should then have a brain power potion. The effect of this makes your brain more attentive to class and more focused you will find that nothing will distract you and make you be able to do you work easier.
This could be associated with Ravenclaw because they are very hard working and try to do as much work in there class as they can trying to remain focused and attentive.

Reading Rush
2 hand fulls of Dried nettles
2 Crushed snake fangs
Half a cauldron full of Wormwood
A flask of Erumpent fluid

To create this potion add a quarter of the cauldron full of water – 17degress Celsius. The place all the wormwood. Leave for 10 minutes. You should then stir gently for 7 minutes. Placing one hand full of the dried nettles in make sure they are scattered around so that you can barley see through them. Then put on your heat protecting gloves and places the 2 crushed fangs at the bottom of the cauldron. Leave for 1 hour. The come back to and the crushed snake fangs powder should have risen to the top of the bowl. You are then needed to pour the flask of Erumpent fluid into the cauldron. Stirring clockwise 20 times. The spray the dried nettles the same way you did last time. Leave for half an hour and it will be ready to take. The effect of this potion makes you able to read a 500 page book in 5 minutes. This is perfect for cramping.
This potion may be associated with Ravenclaw because they can always be seen staying up late either reading a book or studying this may help them to do the fun stuff they want to do and get all that reading done.

Knowledge memory potion
12 Cockroaches
1 Moonstone
14 Leeches
Flask full of Bubotuber pus
Hellebore
A page from the required text book

This potion is made by first heating up the cauldron and filling a quarter of it with warm water. You should then place a cockroach in every 3rd stir. So one cockroach stir the cauldron 3 times and place another one in. Make sure they are live. Then place 2 leeches into the bowl and raise the temperature by 10 degrees. Leave them to simmer for 10 minutes then place the Hellebore at the bottom of the cauldron using your heat protective gloves. Lowering the temperature down by 8 degrees leave there for 15 minutes. Then with the heat protective gloves place the page/s you wish to remember into the bottom of the cauldron. Then place the 12 other leeches into the cauldron. They should go and eat the paper. If not you must press them to do so. Once the page/s is completely eaten pour a flask of bubotuber pus into the cauldron and turn up the temperature. Leave for a week at that temperature. When returning the potion should be this colour. If not it is unsafe to drink.
The effects of this particular potion mean that you memorise the page/s that you place into the bowl this is great for remembering facts needed for next lesson without have to study for ages.
This may be associated with Ravenclaw as they have a thirst for knowledge etc and may not be able to remember it all. Though some Ravenclaws may find this as cheating and prefer to use the real way.

Pt. Two: Choosing one of your three potions, write a short fiction detailing a time when you or another member of your house used the potion. Minimum word count of 400. 25 pts.

“Polly, Polly wake up.” Said jess shaking her.
“Wha.. whats going on” she said rubbing her eyes.
“I need that potion you did last night the knowledge memory one.” She looked in a rush she kept looking behind her shoulder.
“Okay I will give it you when its ready.”
“Ready you mean its not now.” This time she really looked panicked and close to tears.
“I’m sorry” I said stuttering.
“Well where is it so I can get it when it is ready.”
“O right its in the common room I left it there by the fire to keep the heat, the house elves are looking after it at night.” Turning over I began to lie down again.
Later on I began to walk down the common room steps it was 10:30am and most people had gone outside as it was sunny all except one. Whom I saw to be lying on the sofa by the fire. Walking closer I saw it was Jess. “Hey Jess how are you?” I said bending down I saw that their was a small blue flask lying on the floor. “Strange” I muttered to myself picking it up I saw that their was some pink liquid inside it and the remains of tattered paper. My heart sank as I turned to look at Jess her eyes rolling around in her head I instantly knew what she had done. She had taken some of the potion before it had turned the rich purple colour and had tried to crush a new sheet of paper into it to learn. This would never work and without even bothering to read the effects of it going wrong I knew it had. I had to do something jess’s life could depend on it. Racking my brains I tried to think of some spell I knew to make someone be sick but none came to me. Being brought up by muggle parents I only knew the ways of shoving your fingers down their thought or making them drink a cup of salt water. The second option seemed more promising to me so running out of the common room I dashed straight to the kitchen asking for the salt water and a bucket. Running back to the common room thoughts of how is she? Maybe she’s dead filled my head. Returning to the common room I saw to first year Ravenclaw’s poking her.
“Get of her” I screeched running towards her and trying to make her sit up.
“You there hold her up” I said pulling on of the first years towards me. He did as he was told out of fear he could tell something was up.
Making her drink the salt water in one she began to groan before being sick. Well that was a good sign if she was making noice.
“Jess can you…” but my words were interrupted my the other boy.
“I’m going to get help” he said running from the room.
O no I though looking at her tears began to stream down my face when Professor slughorn came walking into the room.
“Now what do we have here” he said bending down.
“Shes drank half finished knowledge potion sir.” I said bending my head down.
“Ah I see” he said placing a beazor into her mouth.
“Keep her in bed for a couple of days and she should be fine. And if I must say that knowledge potion its only for experimental purposes right?” he said giving me a small wink.

House Potions Empty
PostSubject: Re: House Potions   House Potions EmptyWed Nov 21 2007, 19:02

Pt. One: Create 3 potions that signify your house, write a summary of the ingredients (not all have to be listed) and an explanation of what it does and why it is associated with your house. Each potion summary should be at least 150 words long.

1) Knowledge potion:
Take this potion and for at least one hour you will know everything you need to know during that time period. There are some limitations though. You can use the potion not tests; instead it is mainly used to impress friends and families during gathers. If you use this potion during a test that has been cursed to block out this potion, then instead of knowing everything you will know nothing. You will act like you just drew up a blank.

It was discovered by Charles Cominet, a wizard who spent most of his life living in London. Charles had discovered his potion after getting beat by his cousin Frank in a game of wits. Charles hated to have to be able to admit to Frank that he was not as smart as him so before they played their game of wit, Charles would drink the potion and every time he would be able to beat Frank.

Ingredients:
Unicorn horn
Lizard’s brain
Powdered Dragon claw

2) Homework potion:
Many people don’t like to sit around and do homework all day. This was how Charlie Pomsie felt during his fifth year at Hogwarts. Charlie had so much homework that he had become exhausted and he couldn’t focus enough to do it correctly. Charlie ended up getting bad marks because of this lack of focus. After getting his twentieth Troll, Charlie decided to spend some time making a potion that would make the drinker think that homework was fun. With this potion that he had made, Charlie was able to get his homework not only done quicker, but he also was able to focus much better and because of this he was able to get better marks on his tests and on his graded pieces of homework. Many years after it had been invented it was prohibited at Hogwarts because like one of the teachers had said there ‘the homework is assigned so that they will be prepared for their tests and also another way for us to torture then when we had to put up with them all day’.

Ingredients:
Beetle eyes
Wood with magical properties
Werewolf fur

3) Memory Potion:
Do you have an exam in the next hour? Haven’t studied yet? Need to pass it? Well the Memory Potion is the answer to all of your questions. Many people wait to the very last moment before they go to study for a huge test or exam. Why do this they do this? Mainly because they like many others just don’t like to study. Instead they would rather have fun and play games. This potion would help you with your memory. Take the potion and all you have to do is go over all of your notes or read any book once and you will be able to remember every little detail in that book. This potion will not work on NEWTS or OWLS. If you try it everything that you had crammed into your brain a few minutes before the test you will just forget. This potion was discovered by Neville Laurinburg. He invented it after getting tired of hearing his mom telling him that he would one day forget his own name. After doing many tests Neville did for a little while forget his name but once he corrected the potion he was able to regain most of his memory.

Ingredients:
Beetle shells
Unicorn hooves
Dragon scale

Pt. Two: Choosing one of your three potions, write a short fiction detailing a time when you or another member of your house used the potion. Minimum word count of 400.

Oh no Stephy thought as she raced into her dormitory and headed over to her trunk. “Where is it? I have a test in twenty minutes and I still haven’t yet studied!” she shrieked as she threw clothes and books out of her trunk. After what seemed like ages, Stephy finally ran across her Defense Against the Dark Arts book in her hand. “Yes, I found it!” she exclaimed looking down at her watch, “But I only have fifteen minutes to study!” She screamed as she ran down into the common room. “What am I to do!”

Stephy then started to run around in circles yelling at all of the first years that she had claimed was reading too loud. “Go to the library, that’s where you’re suppose to be reading at” she snapped at them. As she watched them hurry out of the room it finally had hit her, she could just use the memory potion. Awhile ago her uncle had made her a potion and had told her that if she was to use it that she should keep it to herself. He warned her that if the other teachers where to know that if she had it that she might get in big trouble for it.

Looking around the room she saw to her delight that the room was empty. “Great now I can get it without anyone knowing” Stephy whispered to herself as she quickly made her way back to her trunk that was lying in ruins on the floor. Stephy then quickly snatched a little brown bag that had contained all of her potions that was laying on top of the mess of clothes and books. She opened the pouch and looked inside to see that there was many potions lying inside. After moving the many small bottles around her finally came across the Memory Potion. Stephy held it in front of her face and examined it. The potion that was inside of it looked gray and wispy, as if someone had blown some smoke some into a bottle and quickly closed it before any of the smoke had time to leave the bottle. Stephy opened the bottle and expected the “smoke” to escape the bottle but instead it had stayed inside acting as any other liquid would. She then pressed the bottle to her lips and tilted her head back and took a gulp of the potion. After she had drank it she had to look at the bottle to make sure that she did indeed drink the potion because she didn’t feel the liquid travel down her throat. Looking she saw that the bottle was empty and then she looked at her watch and saw that she only had ten minutes more to study for that test. This better work Stephy thought as she pulled open her book and started reading as quick as she could.

After her ten minutes where over, Stephy quickly ran down to her Defense Against the Dark Arts room and after a half hour she had finished her test. The next day she went into the same classroom and got back her test and saw to her horror that she had gotten a Troll. Looking up she saw that her teacher was smiling at her. “Next time try not to use that Memory Potion again. I had a charm placed on the test you see” her teacher said. “I wont” Stephy said as her face started to turn red.

House Potions Empty
PostSubject: Re: House Potions   House Potions EmptyFri Jan 18 2008, 16:08

Pt. One: Create 3 potions that signify your house, write a summary of the ingredients (not all have to be listed) and an explanation of what it does and why it is associated with your house. Each potion summary should be at least 150 words long. 25 pts.

Elixir to Encourage Absorption of Knowledge

• 1 powdered dragon claw
• 1 vial of salamander blood
• 3 tail hairs of a unicorn foal
• 2 phoenix tears

To brew this potion you must put 2 litres of water in your caldron and bring to boil. Let simmer for 7 minutes.
Whilst simmering divide the powdered dragon claw into 10 gram portions.
When finished simmering add 1 portion of powdered dragon claw then stir clockwise 5 times.
Repeat until all the dragon claw is in the potion. The dragon claw will not mix with the water.
Drop in the phoenix tears and stir anti-clockwise 7 times. The powdered dragon claw should now mix.
Add the salamander blood and stir until potion turns a vivid turquoise.
Put out fire and let potion cool to room temperature. Once cool add the unicorn hairs.
Freeze for 24 hours. Then mix clockwise until slushy and drink potion. Potion is effective for 12 hours.

The elixir to encourage absorption of knowledge is a potion to enhance you understanding and helps you to make greater sense of the things in your life weather it be a difficult textbook or your personal problems.
This potion is especially significant to the ravenclaw house as they are considered extremely clever and the elixir to encourage absorption of knowledge can provide a certain amount of help and guidance where it is needed.

Central Nervous System Relaxing Solution

• 1 phoenix tail feather
• 1 dried gnome brain
• 2 crushed acromantula pincers
• 5 dried doxy wings
• 3 fairy eggs

Put the fairy eggs in your caldron and pour 3 litres of lukewarm water over them.
Add the crushed acromantula pincers and stir clockwise until potion turns royal blue.
Cut the gnome brain into tiny pieces of equal sizes and add them. Do not stir.
Wait until they have dissolved. When they have the potion will turn into a deep purple.
Sprinkle the doxy wings on top and stir with the phoenix feather until potion turns lilac.
Drop the feather in and potion should turn pale pink. Stew for 2 hours exactly then drink.

The Central Nervous System Relaxing Solution is a potion that helps you to relax whilst still retaining information. This potion is of great help to ravenclaws as when exams are approaching many stress and cannot concentrate. Some may argue that a calming drought also does the above but a calming drought stops you concentrating on your worries and majority of other things whereas The Central Nervous System Relaxing Solution calms you whilst you are able to keep a clear head and continue revising.

The Drought of Reminiscence

• 3 hairs of the head of a merperson
• 1 gallon of liquidised flame from a Hungarian Horntail
• Essence of Murtlap
• Crushed horn of a Grindylow

Fill your caldron with the liquidised flame. And add the merperson’s hair. Potion should be bright yellow.
Stir anti-clockwise until potion turns a mellow green.
Soak crushed Grindylow horn in Murtlap essence whilst you let potion simmer.
Once potion turns turquoise put the fire out and add the Grindylow horn and Murtlap essence.
Leave to stew overnight and drink at first light. Effective for 3 hours.

The drought of reminiscence is especially useful to the students of ravenclaw as it helps them to recall more details of things they have read. It is most helpful when you have a lot to remember as it gives your brain a boost.

Pt. Two: Choosing one of your three potions, write a short fiction detailing a time when you or another member of your house used the potion. Minimum word count of 400. 25 pts.

It was OWL year and Rosalie was in trouble. She had just come back from her Transfiguration practical and knew it had gone horribly wrong. Instead of transfiguring her peacock into a rabbit she had accidentally cursed the examiner who had immediately been sent to St Mungos as nobody knew what the curse was or the damage it had done. “I’m so stupid,” Rosalie sobbed to herself,”I don’t know why the sorting hat put me in Ravenclaw.” She picked up the closest book and threw it into the fire. In the light of the flames she saw the page it had fallen open to. The drought of reminiscence. Rosalie shrieked and ran towards the fire to fetch the book. “Ow….”, Rosalie cursed as she burnt her hand. She held up the book and smiled. History of Magic was her only exam left and it would take place the following morning. What was more she was sure to forget everything. “But not if I brew up a little memory…” Rosalie smiled to herself. She ran her finger over the ingredients. Merpeople hair…and liquidised horntail flame…and Murtlap essence… and Grindylow horn. Well the Murtlap essence and crushed Grindylow horn were kept in the student supplies cupboard so they would be easy as anyone was allowed to use them. But the Merpeople and flame would be tricky… Rosalie dashed into the thankfully empty potions dungeon and grabbed the things she needed. Thankfully, the Merpeople hair and the liquidised horntail flame were in the teacher’s cabinet which she managed to sneak in and out of. Rosalie quickly brewed the potion. It was not that difficult as long as you followed the instructions properly. She left her potion to stew overnight and went back to the common room where all of her classmates were cramming as much history of magic as they could. Rosalie smiled at them, announcing she needed an early night and was off to bed. Early the next morning Rosalie ran down to the potions dungeon and saw her potion was perfect at first light she drunk it all. The effect was immediate. Rosalie only had to think of History of Magic for information to come flooding. She smiled to herself, knowing she could expect at least one ‘outstanding’ OWL. Thinking of OWL’s… Rosalie could now clearly remember exactly what they had said about the anti-jinxes put on the test paper to ensure nobody cheated. It worked against spell checking quills, auto-answer quills and… memory potions… memory potions like the Drought of Reminiscence.
