| It seems this site really does need a dose of this movie. I can't believe I am getting questions of what my icon and signature are of...come on people! Okay if you don't want to listen to me or want a good, well written review, go here. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy my attempt to explain this wonderful musical classic. First off. This is a classic so it should be understood that it is a bit old. Not black and white old, but old as in my thirteen year old brother was named after a character in a movie eight years older than him (yes he was named after the awesome tight wearing goblin king, Jareth). So appreciate this movie for it's oddball 80's antiquity. Second of all. This is a musical. That means singing and dancing, but don't worry it's not Broadway music, yet also not Disney musical. It is a fantasy musical, which I know sounds a bit odd (especially if you add in David Bowie's weird 80's hairstyle), but trust me it is good. David Bowie rocks and he is the Goblin King, who by the way does 90% of the songs. I think the only song he doesn't sing in sung by a bunch of Jim Henson's wonderful puppet creatures. Okay now onto what it is about before I bore you all to death. Goblins, and fairies, and puppets, oh my! Originally released in 1986, it has become a favorite among many and has been labeled a cult classic. It is about a girl name Sarah, who’s mind still dwells in fairy tales, sort of like Wendy in Peter Pan and how she loved stories and fantasizing, though this girl is almost at the brink of adulthood and has to deal with some more Cinderella type problems, a.k.a. a wicked stepmother (or at least in her view point), and ends up going on an amazing adventure to save her little brother Toby. She comes home late after reciting from a book titled “Labyrinth’, stirring up an argument with her stepmother. Her stepmother and father go out on a date, leaving Sarah to baby-sit Toby. Later on, not to much later, she ends up wishing for the goblins to take her brother away. She had really only been telling a story and not serious at all. Come on, though she loved fairy tales, she didn’t believe in them or know that the Goblin King was in love with her. Regretting it and wanting her brother back, Sarah has to travel through the Labyrinth and to the Goblin city in thirteen hours or Jareth will change little Toby into a goblin. She meets all sorts of wild creatures in the labyrinth, one of which was there for a few seconds to say ‘ello. Jim Henson, with the help of Terry Jones (formerly of Monty Python) and Brian Froud (the awesome artist who did the designs for this and the Dark Crystal, and did I mention he was Toby’s dad) has made a cult classic that will forever get songs stuck in my head and many others. Okay maybe that link earlier has a better review but it is almost 3 a.m. here and my brain is crashing. | |

| I remember this movie! I actually liked it though I think it was a little too musical. Now that I watch it, it's kind of cheesy but I used to love it! I'll still watch it from time to time. | |

| I quite liked this movie the effects were not that good but I'm guessing it was old. The story line was cute and I have read the first book in the second one about Toby. | |

| Labyrinth is one of my all-time favorite movies. I used to be able to recite the entire thing, word-for-word. Now I can quote most of it with the movie. I love Jareth, and plan to some day name one of my sons Jareth Bowie. I almost feel sorry for the child. | |

Haha my brother's name is Jareth. Poor kid, every one tries calling him Jared. I don't think my bro deserves the name anyway. He is the complete opposite of the Goblin King...wimpy...dorky...though I do love him XD He doesnt even really care for the movie. At least not like me lol. Btw he is Goblin King II here though he never gets on. | |
