Zabini answers that Nott Sr. is a Death Eater currently imprisoned in Azkaban for breaking into the Department of Mysteries the previous June. Slughorn, not wanting any association with Death Eaters, is not pleased and thus invites Blaise instead of Nott into his "Slug Club."

A subplot that Rowling eventually cut from the series storyline was to have featured Malfoy and Nott talking in the garden of Malfoy Manor, which would have been one of the few times that Malfoy would be seen conversing with someone he considered an equal, as Rowling has said that Nott is just as pureblooded as Malfoy and somewhat cleverer.

What does everyone else think of Theordore? I think he could've and should've been a really interesting character- and a nice break from Draco's little gang.

He is so complex, so perfect. Clever, smart, and capable of such greatness. Goodness, I wrote an entire essay on how wonderful he was last year sometime. He is just brilliant...-doesn't know where essay is- -may be able to find old app for him- -searches-

Goodness, the only one I can find after like two minutes of searching is from like Fall 2005; back when I could not roleplay like at all. I'll paste a bit:

Overall character traits: Theodore is clever, very clever. He enjoys going off on his own, and being rather a loner. He isn’t exactly “in” with Malfoy and his crew, but instead is usually by himself. Theo is one to enjoy gatherings, when he is in a rather good mood. He falls for girls easily, but never really has girlfriends. He is a firm believer in chivalry and will be as much of a gentleman as he can be around those girls who deserve his time. Theodore is easily angered. While most of the time he can hide it, sometimes his anger seems to take control of him.
Likes: Quidditch, Girls, Reading, Playing the piano, Potions
Dislikes: Being proved wrong, being angry with himself, anything that has to do with muggles or with those that are somehow related to them.
Qualities they like: Pureblooded, definitely. Theo only goes for those girls in Slytherin, sometimes Ravenclaw, and very, very rarely: Gryffindor. He enjoys the company around him if they are clever, and can catch onto what Theo is saying. Intelligence, but if they know when not to speak is also very good.
Qualities they dislike: Having to do anything with muggles, those rather stupid girls who cant think for themselves, anyone who can’t think for themselves for that matter, people who speak out of turn, those who attempt to prove him wrong.

Good magical qualities: Theo is clever, and able to think of spells right away, he also is rather gifted with charms and potions.
Bad magical qualities: Theo thinks too much, and sometimes uses a more complicated spell than what was needed. He tries to prove everyone else wrong, but it sometimes doesn’t work out. Theo also doesn’t get along very well with plants or creatures.

Parents: Theodore Nott II and Natalie Renaldii-Nott
Siblings: Theodore is an only child.
Other family: Theodore comes from the purest line. He is related to most of the purebloods by some way or another, however most are very, very far away in the family tree.
General Background: Theodore grew up a rather typical pureblood life. He spent most of his early years at his manor with tutors upon tutors. His father wished him to carry on the family business, and wanted to make sure he was as prepared as possible, even at a young age. Theodore has always been somewhat of a loner. He was always on an advanced level, so he spent most of his time with people that were older than him. However, now he sort of wishes he had made more of a move to get to know those his own age. When Theo was eleven, he received his letter to Hogwarts like everyone else. His father and mother were overjoyed, although they knew it was going to happen anyway.

Other:
Strengths: His cleverness, and intelligence: the one thing he can thank his father for. Theodore is also rather gifted at attracting escorts and members of the opposite sex.
Weaknesses: He thinks way too much for his own good. He also is a firm believer that he is better than everyone else, which is why he is still somewhat of a loner. Theo also gets angered easily, causing him to try to stay away from anything that will get him outraged.
Hopes/Dreams: Theodore wishes to break away from the family business, to become his own person. He also wants to be away from the whole arranged marriage thing. Both of theses will anger his father though.
Fears: Being proved wrong and being rejected by a girl. (Not that he ever is either one…)

Well, at one point in time that is how I pictured him. I would expect him to admire his father but at the same time hate his views. Go against them some how; be the one to help the Order. XD Wow, now to find that essay sometime...

I always thought of him as logical and more reserved than other Slytherians in his views but I never really cosidered him coming to the order side. Was he mentioned in the 7th book. If anything I wouldn't be so surprized if he was nuetral.

Yes, I did find Theo to be more...reserved. Has anyone ever read teh extra scene Jo has on her site between Theo/Draco. He was the only person Draco saw as an equal because he was "just as pure and slightly wiser." I adore my Theo <3

Nott's name could have many different meanings: nothing (as in 'naught'), and binding (as in 'knot'). In Norse myth, Nott is the "personification of night, and the daughter of Narvi. Nott's chariot is pulled by the horse Hrimfaxi ('frost-maned') which covers the earth with dew early in the morning." (EM).

I believe he saw his mother. His father is a current Death Eater/is very old for his age. So most likely his mother -nods- I do believe it is mentioned somewhere that his father is an "elderly widower"

However, in this scene Theodore's father (the same Nott who was badly injured in the closing chapters of 'Order of the Phoenix') goes to visit Lucius Malfoy to discuss Voldemort-related business and we see Draco and Theodore alone in the garden having a talk of their own. I really liked the scene, firstly because it showed the Malfoys' home, and the difference between the place where Draco has grown up and number four, Privet Drive; then because we rarely see Draco talking to anybody he considers a real equal, and he is forced to see Theodore as such, because Theodore is just as pure-blooded as he is, and somewhat cleverer. Together these two Death Eaters' sons discuss Dumbledore's regime at Hogwarts and Harry Potter, with all sorts of stories that the Death Eaters tell about how this baby boy survived the Dark Lord's attack.
