What is the world coming to!?

A british woman was jailed in Sudan for allowing the children in her class in the school where she taught to call a teddy bear Mohammed! There was even talks of the death sentence!

The woman has now been given a pardon (earlier today) and is coming back to England later today, but personally I find this outrageous and silly. What are your thoughts?

Okay, so I read this a while back in the newspaper during one of our more or less boring ethic classes xD

...I laughed.

Seriously!

And I know it must have been awful for the poor lady, but come on, you can't read these kind of things seriously :D You name a teddy bear Mohammed, and you immediatly get all these death sentence wishes coming all over you!

It was riduclas and pathetic but I do think that the women should have thought more about the name she was giving her teddy bear. Some people would have found it really offensive and I think she was arrested for it being racist right? Well I can see the view in that because in some way it is. I think the women probably named it him as a joke or something but I still think she should have thought more about what she was doing.

I disagree with that polly, because for starters the children in her class named the teddy after one of the other children in the class. I think Mohammed is actually quite a common name as well.

It may have been seen as disrespectful, but come on, it's a teddy bear! And when you're giving a name to a stuffed toy, I doubt the thoughts in your head would be "Who will I offend if I give it such-and-such a name?"

Yeah, exactly! I had a friend who named their dog... Santa, only that you put the letter 'n' at the end instead xD Yeah, some of the more religious parents got shocked over it, but no one got arrested :D Dude, arrested over a teddy bear? Puh-lease!

At least she is released now...

I thought if it is insulting to name a teddy bear Mohammed who will sit and do nothing,

surely it more of an insult to call a child Mohammed and what about if he grows up to be a burgular or something like that, this is disrespecting the name more but they don't get death sentences.
