| Okay some of the older members around know this new ones don't.
A few months back HE had a Games tournament, a site to play games and at the end of the month the top 3 people in every game would get HE points.
This was end due to hum... let's say monopolies...
We have graphics tournies, fics challenges but not everyone is good at writing or handling graphic software and would like perhaps to have another way to win their house some points.
Anyway the question is would you like to have such a thing in He? Or to older members would you like to see it back?

| I think is the aim in life to overcome obstacles it's not impossible to anyone to win those games.
I find it dissapoting people wanting to ban something just cuz they cant fight it. I thought it was slytherins who were the tricky ones.
Guess we might have more honor in the end. Hmpf

| Fine. Slytherin didn't win all the games. Slytherin won MOST of the games. Like, 95%.
IT'S STILL NOT WORTH IT, PEOPLE.
And retreat is a way of thinking over your options, and finding a better way to win the battle. Pfft.

| Im sorry but after last time and all the complaints it would be pointless to have the tournements games back, Rai, i love you you know that, but you dominated all but 3 or 4 games. If there was no points involved, like currently *the games are still there* then fine go tourny awaybut i said no because of all the arguing and complaints it caused last time. | |

| I agree with Etta. It's too much hassel - it caused too many arguments last time about points.
This might sound silly, but playing a game isn't on the same par as writing a fanfiction, creating a graphic or putting in the research for a class, so I'm against this suggestion.

| I voted "no", same reasons. All other ways of getting housepoints require some sort of intellectual work, which doesn't really apply to the games, does it? ^^"
But you can still play games for fun, and that's the point..... isn't it? xD

| Excuse me but Games do involve intellecutal work! You need to learn strategies it's tricks, what works best for that game.
And you do fics and graphics for fun either, or is just obligation to earn points? What annoys me is I remember people happy when the games started this just happened cuz they couldnt beat me, I didnt entered the overall top scores only He scores so it means i'm not unbeatable. *sighs* you're making me have to 'ditch' my skills

| *cough* I didn't do any graphics in ages and I don't do fics anyway ... xD ... but yes, of course I do housepoint-y stuff for fun anyway ^^"
and of course you're not unbeatable xD - but it gets pretty annoying for people once only one person has monopoly over the scoreboards and other simply don't have time to play as much in order to beat the highscore ^^" .. and if they do get a highscore, there's no guarantee for anybody that it won't be beaten in 2 minutes anyway. Whereas, if you do a piece of homework/ a graphic etc, you are guaranteed at least some points (of course it still depends on how good you were/ how much time you invested ... but it's not so radical. In tournament games, it's pretty much "all or nothing"... )
.. would a compromise be ok? Like... have a set amount of housepoints a person can earn from playing games in one month or a set amount of games one can try per month? Or maybe simply less housepoints?

| I agree with the above ^. I know I was not here when the tournament games went on; but I do see how monopolies can form. And, like in the game, once somebody takes control over most things- it's extremely hard for people to break free and get rewarded themselves. I do, however propose a sign ups: where each member can sign up for let's say a maximum of three games. Then, they can only play those games. Like you can sign up whenever, and the first post of the game will have a list of the people playing. That way nobody can claim all of the games.
I also feel that the games should not be worth even close to as much as let's say a grphic or a fanfic. Both of which take time and effot; while games are more or less for fun. So, like maybe the winner of each game could win like 25 points; 15 for second; and like 10 for third. That might be not enough; but at the same time they are helping thier house. It's not like they could not play the game for nothing in the normal forums anyway...
I know, technically I am a Slytherin and should be rooting for the games to come back because Raistlin seems to have won tons of points with them. However, at the same time I do see the point the rest are making. Maybe there is a way to restrict monopolies?...

| no, rai, what i meant was, say you had played your three games, were top for all three, then played a fourth, you came top in the fourth game but knew you couldnt claim the points, so you put *thinks* Ame's name, knowing she'd played that game and was say in third place.
Everyone said running the clubs forum would be easy because "there's a list with everyone on it, with what clubs they are in" that list hasn't been updated, people chop and change their minds and leave clubs, etc, and the list becomes extemely hard to update. What im getting at is, a list isnt as straightforward as you're making out, one simple thing can lead to a complete pain in the neck.
I just dont understand why points should be awarded anyways, people the games in the games galore forum, games which require research, thinking and tactics, but they don't get points for playing those games.

| I will leave this thread open for a while longer to hear more opinions, though I am afraid that i can not see this tournament returning yet, if at all, though i do have a couple of other suggestions;
1. There is a bowling thread opened here and i am hoping to have game tournaments in that aspect open from next term as a trial.
and
2. Perhaps random game challenges which appear like challenges in a challenge chamber, one-off games etc.

| Slytherin for the cup
I voted no. And It's because that most of those games rely on luck anyway. It's not fair that you should win points on luck, there isn't a lot of actual work involved it. Where as doing things such as Graphics and writing takes actual work and things like that. So what if everyone isn't good at fics or graphics? What about the people who can't have the games work on their computers because they aren't up to date? Are we just suppose to go, oh too bad so sad at them? It's not really fair that there are certain things that you have to be able to do on your computer to play the games.
I know that not everyone can do graphics on their computers either, but everyone can do fics if they wanted to. Right? yes they could.
But yeah I really don't think that we should, because as I said far too many of them rely on luck instead of actual skill and talent. Unlike fics and graphics.
And I think Elfie's alternates are way better XD

| I voted no on the whole games thing returning. Mainly because I am not capable of playing those games. Or really any game for that matter. I think that it is unfair to those who like me have outdated computer and internet. It gives those who can have these shall I say lucky people a higher advantage.
I also agree with Amby when she says that those games are based on luck and not skill or talent. It isn't fair to those who really can't play a game for the life of them. I still see it as a way for the power hungry good internet owners good at games people an unfair advantage to grabing points for their houses.
Also most people if not all people can attempt to write a fic or make a graphic and get points for enterening. Not in the games if you are not first, second, or third you don't get any points despite on how hard you tried. Atleast when you do a graphic you get at least 10 points for trying. The same with writing.
I know that I am kinda recaping a lot of what other people are saying but I am one of those people that can not afford or handle the games, handle as in I can't play with out giving my poor Amara(yes I named my computer shut-up) a modem melt down.
So please please consider the 'little' people when voting on a thing that requires 'big' people stuff. (I am really bad at that whole comparison thingy but I hope you get my point.)
TRACI XD (Yes I wrote a novel AMBER)

| What i have done is opened a subforum in the games section which will have games challenges like the challenge chamber. The points are lower than other challenges such as graphics as most people agree that games are more for luck, yet there is still points and also a winners post like in the challenge chamber etc. this will work like the challlenge chamber with no tournaments.
We are running this forum as a trial for a month to see how people take to it.
The bowling tournament will still go ahead at some point in the new term
