Tutorial: Window to the Soul

This is a very simple tutorial that results in a great looking graphic.

Tutorial

1. Open a blank canvas to the size of your choice. Mine is 498x198.

2. Open the eye picture, and the picture of the woman. Resize the picture of the woman, making it slightly smaller. Using the elliptical selection tool with a feather setting of 55, select a circle around the woman’s body. Hit copy, and paste it as a new layer onto the eyeball. Position it so it sits within the eyeball nicely.

3. Once you’re happy with the positioning of the woman within the eyeball, merge the layers. Resize the merged image so that it will fit comfortably onto your blank canvas, and paste it as a new layer onto the blank canvas.

4. Duplicate the layer, and set to Overlay at 50% opacity.

5. Take the texture, and paste as a new layer. Set it to Screen on 100%. Move the texture around until it’s in a place you think looks good.

6. Duplicate the texture and mirror it, so that the light looks like it’s coming from both sides.

7. Now for the text. I used OptimusPrincepsSemiBold in size 10, black for “With eyes like windows”, and the same font in size 10, #B5B8B7 with a kerning of 300.

8. Finally, I dragged the texture above the text, added a 1 pixel black border and merged the layers.

9. To make the icon, open a 98x98 blank canvas, and paste the middle part of the signature onto it, positioning it until you think it looks good. Then paste the texture as a new layer, and play with the positioning. Finally, merge the layers and add a 1 pixel black border.

10. Remember to save as a .PNG for best quality!
