| (Ten points to Ellemanae for this suggestion! You can still participate in the class ^^)
Hey everyone! Being your HoM prefect, a job of mine is to make classes, so without further ado...
Part One:
There is magic within fairy tales, each and every one, and we're going to be diving into that in this lesson.
In paragraph format, you will need to:
1. Pick a fairy tale to work with 2. Describe what in the tale can be explained by magic 3. Make up a history for the tale - when was it made, where, by who (we're assuming by witches and wizards, but get a bit more specific), and why? Were the Muggles in the area getting suspicious and needed a story to keep them from investigating the homes of the witches and wizards? Or did they just want to toy with their minds?
(250 words minimum)
Points Possible, Part One: 40 points
Part Two:
Now that we've analyzed one tale, it's time to take that or another, and rewrite it using characters from the Harry Potter series. Meaning, use the plotline, but change the characters around a bit. Be creative and have fun, but try and keep it under 2,000 please. There is no minimum word limit, but remember that you'll be given the points that I see fit on your effort.
Points Possible, Part Two: 40 points
Total Points Possible: 80
I look forward to seeing what you write! Be mindful of SPAG (spelling, punctuation and grammar) and QWC (quality of written communication)!

| Part One:
The fairy tale I chose is that of Rapunzel.
The evidence of magic in this story is many, for example, Rapunzel’s parents lived next to an enchantress, or, in other words, a witch. This is the same witch that locked Rapunzel in the tower. To ensure that Rapunzel could not escape the Tower in any way, it was probably covered with numerous enchantments to prevent climbing out, or jumping out of the tower, or anything of the like. Now for the point of the story that is most well known-Rapunzel’s hair. Honestly, I’ve got thick hair and a lot of it, but it’s not nearly strong enough for a grown woman to climb up! And another point is that hair gets thinner as it grows longer-so Rapunzel’s hair would have been practically breaking at the end-not conducive to climbing. And how would it even grow that long!? So, the witch must have cast some charms on Rapunzel’s hair products that would make it grow long, strong, and not be so heavy that it would break the poor girl’s neck. And Rapunzel’s singing voice is probably the result of a spell too-how could she be loud enough to draw a prince that was wandering “relatively” nearby in the forest? (Okay, maybe that’s being a little harsh, I might be bitter that I can’t do that :D)
Now, the happy ending doesn’t come right away. The witch discovers that the pair have been meeting, and cuts off Rapunzel’s hair. So, when the prince comes, she lets down the braids she cut off, and the prince climbs up them to meet her instead. How was that witch strong enough to hoist up a young man? Probably strengthening enchantments on her arms, methinks. Anyways, she tells the prince he’ll never see Rapunzel again, and he jumps from the tower and is blinding by the thorns below. Ahem. I don’t care how macho you are, you aren’t going to survive a fall from the tower! There was probably an enchantment that was cast to ensure that he came out of it alive-cast by the witch or Rapunzel, I don’t know. Maybe Rapunzel learned some magic locked up in the tower, it wasn’t like she had no time on her hands. The prince apparently wandered around and around for months. His survival is questionable, charity or magic? I’ll go with magic and say he had a kindly fairy godmother-or a nice witch-to help him find food. Yes, that sounds about right. Don’t worry about old Princey-pants, though. He hears Rapunzel singing as she fetches water-and he was once in the wastelands? I think that “fairy godmother” of his probably gave him a nudge in the right direction-and they are reunited. As she cries with joy for finding her prince, her tears restored his sight. If that’s not healing magic, I don’t know what is.
The history of Rapunzel is actually quite interesting. It was, as we all know, written by the brothers Grimm, a pair of normal young men with a penchant for telling stories. Well, not entirely normal. They were wizards, after all. At the time, they were living in France in about the 19th century when they came up with a clever trick to play on a young prince. Their sister-yes, they had one-was grounded in a Tower by their mother-apparently she made some very important people very upset by flying around on a broom. So, one of them transifigured into a witch, and the other charmed their sister-whose name was Zelnupra (which, it just so happens, Rapunzel is an anagram for) to grow her blonde hair incredibly long, thick, and strong. They played out the story, charming her voice, ensuring the prince would find her. They knew he would grow to love her, but they didn’t know that she would grow to love him. When she told them she planned on marrying her prince, they were furious, and cut her hair and blinded him with a spell. The story they told her was that when he found out the truth he jumped out the window and was blinded by the thorns. Eventually, they couldn’t stand their sister’s misery, and one of them went out to find her prince. They led him back, and grudgingly, allowed him to marry their sister, who kept her name as Rapunzel, because it’s a right side prettier then Zelnupra. Their mother did not attend the wedding, apparently she got into a spot of trouble with their youngest brother Jack and a certain beanstalk.
Part Two:
Now that we've analyzed one tale, it's time to take that or another, and rewrite it using characters from the Harry Potter series. Meaning, use the plotline, but change the characters around a bit. I’ve now chosen the tale of Hansel and Gretel.
Or, as they shall now be known, Hermionel and Ginnel. (aka Hermione and Ginny :D) They were the children-well, Hermionel was adopted after the couple lost their only son, although they do have five others who have gone out into the world- of a Ministry of Magic official-Mr. Weasley- and his wife-Mrs. Weasley, but unfortunately, the family was very poor, and they rarely had anything to eat. So, the wife asked the wood Ministry official to take the children out into the woods to find them food. The children hear the plan, and think their father means to leave them there. Hermionel then hatches a plan-she will use her wand to leave marks in the ground so they’ll be able to find their way back home. So into the woods they go, and when their father becomes distracted by a muggle disposable cell phone on the ground and runs after it, the girls assume that this is when he leaves them. They race back home.
Their mother is surprised to see them come home so early, and without food and their father. She tells them to go back for him, and they do so. But, Hermionel does not notice her wand trop out of her pocket, and Ginnel is too young to have one. They make up for it by leaving the crumbs of bread Mrs. Weasley gave them for their journey. It was all she could muster up, poor dear. Unfortunately, almost as soon as they enter the woods, their father exits, brandishing the phone excitedly to his wife. When the children don’t come home, they become startled and run into town to drum up a search party for them.
Meanwhile, the children are utterly lost. A snowy white owl keeps following them around and eating their breadcrumbs, so they have no way to find their way home. And then they find a magnificent castle called “Hogwarts”. It is a place where children can learn magic in a way Hermionel and Ginnel never could because their family was too poor to send them. They rush inside, and begin screaming with delight. Suddenly, a large, bat-like man, Severus Snape, appears. He invites them into his dungeon, saying he will get them something to eat. With a wave of his wand, sandwiches are piled high on a table, and the children devour them. Snape has other plans than to give them food on the way. She sends Hermionel into detention, and Ginnel is forced to clean his dungeons. While he talks with the Headmaster of the school to have Hermionel sorted so he may take away copious points for her house, Ginnel talks to her sister about what they are going to too. She begins to cry, and Hermionel tells her to be brave, and that they’ll see their parents too. In detention, Hermionel finds a list of students. On the list she sees the names “Ron Weasley” and wondered if he could he be her adoptive parents’ lost son. She tells Ginnel, who is amazed. They determine that they have to get out, and quickly, and find Ron Weasley on the way. Snape becomes upset as Dumbledore refuses to let him take points away from Hermionel’s house even after she is sorted. He goes to increase their punishments, and is attacked by Ginnel with the mop. She steals his wand, and Hermionel unlocks herself from the cage with it. The two race around, shouting the name “Ron Weasley”. Eventually, he appears with a black haired boy, asking what they want. Breathlessly, they tell him to come with them, for they know his parents. Ron is startled, but borrows his friend’s-whose name is Harry-broom and they fly home.
The family is reunited, and all is happy once more :D
((Hope I didn’t fudge the plot line too much :D))

| Part One: Goldilocks and the Three Bears
How can there be three bears living in a house? Well the answer is simple, they were cursed. One day there were two wizards out with a few of their muggle friends and one of their friends loved bears. He said that he wished that he could talk to one and get to know it so the two wizards quickly headed out to the woods and started to look for some bears. After searching for a few hours they ran into a cave with three bears in it and they cursed them so that they would be as smart as humans. The two wizards than persuaded the bears to follow them and they met the muggles.
At first the bears were polite and answered any questions that they had but then they soon became annoyed and they chased away the muggles. The two wizards than tired to reverse the spell but they were unable to. The Ministry than came in and tried to undo the spell too but they were unable to so they then decided to relocate the house. They then built a new house for the muggles. The old house was relocated to the woods where one day a little girl wandered upon there by accident and got scared away by the bears. She ran back home and told her parents about what had happened but when they returned to the part of the woods where she claimed the house to be they were no longer there. Everyone thought that she had imagined the bears and started to tell the tale of Goldilocks and the three bears to their childern
Part Two: Luna was traveling to her friend’s house whom just happened to be two muggles along with Hermione, to meet them before they went to the movies together. Luna was fascinated by the ideal having never seen a movie before in her life. Once at their friends house, Luna threw open the door and burst inside saying “I love bears. They are so cute”
“I wish that I could talk to one” Chelsea, one of the muggle friends said.
“I know what we can do” Luna shouted out forgetting about the movie and running outside to the woods. Hermione quickly followed behind her leaving the muggles by themselves. After want seemed like a few minutes, Luna finally came across a cave with three bears sleeping inside of it. She raised her wand at them and said a few complicated words and the three bears awoken.
“What are you doing?” Hermione asked her as the bears stood up on their hind legs.
Luna ignored Hermione and turned towards the bears and said “Follow me” and the bears did as she said and followed her out of the cave towards the muggles’s house. Hermione chased after Luna shouting at her that she didn’t think that this was a good idea.
Once they made It to the house, Luna showed Chelsea the bears and Chelsea quickly started to questions them about their lifestyle. The bears were polite and answered any and all questions that she had but soon afterwards they became bored and noticed that the muggle’s house was so much better than their cave. They quickly developed a plan and soon were able to kick the muggles out of there. Luna tried to undo the spell but she too fled out of the house with Hermione when the bears tried to eat them. The bears spent a few days in the house living like humans when all of a sudden the Ministry showed up along with Hermione and Luna. The Ministry too tried to undo the spell but failed so they decided to relocate the house and gave the muggles a new one instead.
After living in the woods for a few weeks, the three bears greeted by a young girl who was scared away and ran to her hosue telling her parents about what had happened. Luna quickly heard about this and so she informed the Ministry and they took action. They once again relocated the house but this time far away from muggles so that the bears would not be bothered by them and they live happily ever after.
